RE: Poll: Did you go larger?

Pre marrage I tent camped
Took the bride tent camping and didn't make it through the first night (1986)
Rented pup's from 1988 - 1997
Upgraded to renting TT's once I bought a full size truck (F150 4.6L) in '97
Bought our 1st 26' TT in 2003 (3 kids)
Bought a more capable TV (F150 EB MAX) and a larger TT (35') in 2011
TT was stolen in 2012
Replaced it with a SMALLER, Lighter, Less Room 31' 5'er last month
We're empty nesters now so we didn't require the room.
Now we entertain 6, dine 4 and sleep 2.
We plan on keeping this one for some time but I said that about the last one as well

RE: Grills that hang on the side wall of the trailer

I used an RVQ for 8 years under the awning and never had any problems either. My new rig doesn't have any type of outside grill and I do miss it. I use the tabletop Coleman 2 burner with the little bottles now and it's just not the same.

RE: Half Ton Fifth wheel advice...

We recently purchased a KZ Durango 1500 series 31'8" and works well with my F150. Dry #'s are 7900 lbs, 1100 lb hitch weight. Again, thats empty. D2857 Don't let the price tag scare you, we paid $28,500 for ours.
The pin box sits forward and the cap is curved so sliding hitch is not required. I didn't know this until after I installed a superglide and then realized I didn't need it.

RE: Who here cooks inside camper or Outside camper?

Cook outside in the summer as much as we can and inside in the winter.
It's hard enough to cool it in the summer without adding more heat :(

Never a good idea to bypass a fuse. If it blew it blew for a reason.

RE: Opinion on TV for my TT - Ecoboost Towing?

"She really doesn't want to be driving around with those huge tow mirrors everyday, when we'll only be towing 6-7 times a year..."
The smaller mirrors are about $400 a pair and it takes 20 minutes to swap them. Put the tow mirrors on when needed.

RE: Hand Guns

Interesting to read different views on this subject.
I own several firearms and do not carry. never felt the need. That may be different if we were full timers though. I believe I would be more apt to keep the 1911 by the bed if FTing but not in the TV. My S&B defence weapon, only one kept loaded is a 5 round 410.
However, if you do wish to pursue this take the class first and decide from there.

RE: Where's the floodlight switch?

Only help I can offer is turn ALL switches on to see if the light comes on. Start turning them off until it goes off.
I have a switch that I have no idea what it's for :(

RE: RV Park Website lies rant

some of them are in the city park, others are right in the middle of town. interesting places. Marysville, KS comes to mind, a nice park. Great Bend, KS is another and Moberly, MO has a nice one. Some of these have a bathroom, most just have elec hookups and water. some have a dump station.
thanks for these! I will add them to my list. City parks are so hard to find.
To the OP, I tend to avoid private parks specifically for the reasons you listed (I have only stayed at one and regretted it). State Parks and COE parks are great places to be able to spread out. I think I have only been disappointed once out of the 100 or so I have stayed at all over the country.
I have found a nice city park campground in the small town of Yoakum Tx. Backs up to the golf course, clean and quiet, $15/nt. I was actually impressed.

RE: Pin Box Weight

Well my handyman is out of town so that forced me to be more aggressive.
Got them off, box raised and torqued bolts to 155 ft-lbs. I hope that's enough 'cause there ain't no more in me :(
I now have 7" clearance towards the front and 6.5" at the tailgate. Still riding a little nose high but I don't want to risk going any lower.
Thanks for the tips-n-tricks

RE: Pin Box Weight

"The hardest part is getting the bolts loose!..."
LOL! That is exactly where I am. I started beating on my 1/2 ratchet and decided to abort. No impact wrench here.
There is a local handyman that can help me for a small fee. I'll give him a call in a few.
My king pin lands just aft of my axle so I also need to move my hitch forward 2". I'll get my $$ worth from him today.

RE: Pin Box Weight

All good advice, thanks.
I like the idea of using the hitch/landing gear as "my little helper". At least that way I know it won't get away from me. DW can handle the bolts and LG switch.
And FWIW: I realized I misstated that I need to lower my box in the original post. I need to raise the box to lower my nose.
Thanks

Pin Box Weight

How heavy is a pin box?
I have a 2013 KZ Durango 2857 with a lippert pin box of unknown model # (tag painted over) and would like to lower the box one notch. I'm 8" above the bedrail and ride a little nose high. I can't find a weight spec on the box.
My problem is that I have no help holding it. It will be me alone attempting this with no mechanical aid.
Should I even attempt this alone?

RE: Superglide killed my inner child! Slider or Sidewinder?

"I understand that this hitch is a significant investment. As such, people put a significant amount of time and effort into researching it before they take the dive..."
I actually knew nothing about it and got mine for $500 installed, including the mounting kit and plate. This was the dealers recommendation and would drop the $1800 system into my truck for $500. I'm reading after the fact but so far so good. It works very well for me.
I'm riding a little nose high and am trying to determine if I should raise the pinbox or not.

RE: Superglide killed my inner child! Slider or Sidewinder?

After further reading I realized the whole lube story has not been spelled out here. I extracted the folowing from This PullRite Manual
There have been three major lubrication changes to the SuperGlide hitch:
1. Prior to April 2008, Way Tubes were assembled with either a conventional, quality grade grease or none at all.(SlipPlate)
2. In April 2008, we started coating the Way Tubes with a graphite-based spray lubricant called SlipPlateā¢.(SlipPlate)
3. November 2009 brings a new innovation from PullRite Towing Systems with the use of plastics. The Turntable
Cam Arm Assembly is now equipped with Plastic Wear Plates (see Parts List Illustration on Page 16). (WD-40 or 3-in-1)
Depending on when your hitch was manufactured, the Way Tubes of your new SuperGlide hitch will meet one of the
above criteria.
This thread forced me to educate myself on my new hitch. I don't think I would have lubed or cleaned as much as I should otherwise.

Good read! I bought a superglide 15K just last week. Now I know what I'm up against. I'll follow this thread with interest.
