RE: utah, idaho, montana I-15 corridor off road trail riding

Had an epic 5 day riding adventure near the town of Featherville, ID. It's not too far from I-15. Baumgartner CG is an awesome basecamp! right on the S Fork Boise river and a killer hot spings pool! Many of the trails in the area are for A class riders and a couple trails for good average riders. It's also great for dualsporting around exploring the area. Especiallay after a gnary 30 mile single track trail ride the day before! I'd absolutely find the experts on the area before planning a trip there after the significant fires that occured near Featherville last year.

RE: Is this a can of worms?

Yes - it's true that 1/2 tons are better than they were 15 years ago. HOWEVER, there is no comparison that the added strenght and stability of a 3/4 or 1 ton makes for a better tow rig period.

RE: Boondocking at Walmart

I know many here will flip out at the "words mean things" crowd. Here goes anyways.... Boondocking is not an accuate description for overnighting in a walmart parking lot. Overnighting at a WalMart is not permitted at some locations per city laws not because some clown setup the entire rig like a campsite but to help promote the useage of a local campground and also to minimize some of the undesirerables that exist on livilng off the graciousness of others.

RE: Who here cooks inside camper or Outside camper?

The only things cooked outside are on the BBQ and pie irons over the fire. The stove top and oven are used most of the time. Never had any issues with lingering scents in my RV any more than in my stick house.

RE: How good are you at Geography, traveled much?

That's pretty neat. if you move around the picture and zoom in on signs you can find some clues to where you are. To verify the clue, use google earth then zoom into the little map to drop your guess. scored 27509 on my second round.

RE: Lewis & Clark St Park MT

Its been a few years since I visited the caverns and checked out the campground after touring the cave. We did not stay at the CG. It did not look like there would ever be a need for reservations as the CG only had a handful of rv's in the cg. I think it would be a great spot for 2 to 3 days. Nice and quiet spot to relax and soak up a little bit Big Sky country. Whether you stay at the cg or not, the cave tour is really worth it.

RE: 2002 Komfort 23ts

From my experience with my TT's both were purchased new, there is no owners manual similar to what you'll find for a car that I have seen. What I have gotten is all the installation, operation, and product registration documentation from the OEM supplied equipment like air con, awning, jacks, refer, stove, microwave, etc.

RE: Tent camping in/around Yellowstone, without generators

I'd not worry about generator usage in Yellowstone. You'll be VERY busy sightseeing and not hanging around a campground when the reasonable generator run times are permitted. There are a few CG's in Yellowstone that forbid any generators period. I believe they are in the NE area of the park.

RE: Seattle area camp grounds

If it's the Middle Fork CG that I'm aware of, it's an awesome little CG but it is at the end of 10 miles of a severely BOMBED out dirt road. There are a couple of decent RV parks on east of Seattle in Fall City area that are in a nice rural setting and close to I-90. I-90 is the least traffic clogged road in the Seattle area. I-5 is bad to horrible most of the time. Enjoy the Museum! BTW, there are two other small aviation museums up at Paine Field in Everett. Got to sit in a P-51 a couple years ago!!

RE: Best Northern Summer Campgrounds

I'm very biased towards the NW for its spectacular summer climate. To many areas in the NW to even ponder picking any one specific place. I'd almost turn your equation around...... A NW summer might be considered "winter" given the typical warm and balmy FL winter conditions. The NW summer (excluding western WA) is usually warm to hot in the day and cool to chilly in the evenings with little to no humidity. Granted, conditions vary depending on locations and elevations. Again, just my very biased opinion that many parts of the NW offer up a great summer option over the buggy and muggy midwest or northeast.

RE: Basic info on truck campers

Given that he is in construction, he will have a fair amount of tools and other necessary tools of the trade to do his job. The #1 challenge of a TC is dealing with a very limited amount of space. Nearly EVERY TC owner I know and camp with all have smallish utility trailers to haul stuff around. Should he already own a truck that works for all his construction needs, a travel trailer would be a much easier and more often than not, the less expensive option as TC's are spendy. He can easily park his TT at any RV park and still have full use of his truck without hauling a TC to the job site each day. Your thoughts are a great alternative to renting out motels or hotels. Just MHO...

RE: Olympic Natl Park Info

Cape Flattery is neat. Standing high on the cliff in the NW corner of the continental US is kinda cool.

RE: Towing an Arctic Fox

I had a 22H for 9 years and I still miss such a perfect little rig. AF's are heavy for their size and it wore out my old 95 half ton Chevy. The new trucks seem more powertrain capable than years past but I'd still prefer the added stability of a 3/4 or better truck to manage our twisty mountain roads.

RE: Drive to Crater Lake

check with the park to see if the drive up to rim village is open as snow can cause temporary closures. Expect tons of snow everywhere. We were there a couple of years ago and the entire rim drive was closed until the 2nd week in July

RE: FMCA Black Eye

We were at a campground with the FMCA Jewels chapter a few years ago and they were very nice and never saw any poor behavior. They hired their own extra security and hired charter buss's to take them around Glacier NP. The Jewels chapter is centered around owners of the super high end units like Marathon and I can tell you first hand that millionaires wash their laundry the same as me - one load at a time.
