there are about 3 ongoing threads on this issue. the oil filled ones give the best uniform heat IMHO. bumpy

RE: Motor home payments

If somebody wants to make that wonderful tax write off profit from borrowing money for a second house, etc. I will save them the trouble of closing costs, etc. Just mail me $1000 and I will send you back a check for $333. bumpy

RE: tow dolly and breaking systems

don't some of them have surge brakes? no expensive installation? bumpyAren't surge brakes hydraulic??? What would they cost? And the mounting flange problem is still there. I'm questioning if he couldn't buy one with surge brakes and avoid installation expense, not adapting one. bumpy

RE: Digital Camera

What's the voltage difference? ;) My Canon's rechargeable battery is 7.4v and 720mAh and I can generally fill my 4GB card (200+ pics) with ease on a single charge, even with its relatively large LCD screen turned on. 2x 2100mAh (2.1A) 1.2v cells = 5.04 watt-hours. The 7.4v 720mAh battery provides 5.32 watt-hours, so it actually has more capacity than the higher mAh but lower voltage AA cells. mine is 3.7 volts. which makes me wonder if my Canon is 3 volts or 1 1/2 volts. haven't really looked to see how 2 AAs are arranged. bumpy

RE: Motor home payments

A good percentage of my money is invested in companies that pay a 12-15% dividend. I would appreciate a little guidance here as to where I can invest my money now and get 12-15%. thanks, bumpy

RE: Digital Camera

Checked out a rechargeable at walmart this am, 900 mah so it is slightly better than my fuji's 720 and 730 mah ones, but also grabbed a rechargable AA and it was 2100 mah. the pair of them in my Canon then would be 4200 mah vs under 1000 in the shirt pocket cameras that take proprietary ones I fail to see how the minibatteries can perform as claimed. unless a very tiny viewing screen or screen turned off? bumpy

RE: tow dolly and breaking systems

They don't make differant axles for brakes or no brakes. They put brakes on some and don't put brakes on some so if you wanted to add brakes you could. Electric brakes would be easyer and cheaper to add than surge brakes.Got to disagree with that - I have seen dollies and trailers without the brake flanges. Other than replacing the axles I have no idea how you would add brakes to such a unit. don't some of them have surge brakes? no expensive installation? bumpy

RE: Oil vs ceramic heater

Hi Bumpyroad, Because we want to understand if *we* are making a mistake by not heating units in storage? Knowledge is nearly always useful. Where I live it would cost me about $7.20 per day for electricity to keep my RV above freezing at this time of year. I need a good reason to spend that much. the OP wanted to know about heating while in winter storage. Why should we question his motives? MYOB IMHO bumpy some/or at least one of the replies seemed to be critical of the OP for doing so, not just expressing the need to do so. bumpy

RE: Pismo sand is now considered "polution"

Bumpy, This may be poofed but here goes, you don't seem to be a dune buggyier nor do you live here much less visited CA. So why are you voting to close one of our long time recreation areas? don't like people tearing up natural areas for pleasure. I have visited CA, didn't like it. bumpy

RE: I-95 on Christmas Day

I'd be more concerned about being able to find fuel on Christmas day. Good point.I'll probably be starting out from just around Washington on Christmas morning so i'll make sure i fill the car before bedtime on Thursday night,i can go 500 miles on a tank which should get me past lunchtime on Christmas day and hopefully open gas stations.. fuel up at exit 104, cheapest gas around. truck stops both sides. bumpy

RE: Motor home payments

I financed on the advice of my accountant....I needed the tax write off. If I paid cash, the interest I saved, most of it would go to uncle sam anyway. great tax write off. spend $2000 in interest and get $600 off taxes, a net gain of -$1400. and that last sentence makes no sense to me, why would saved interest go to uncle sam? bumpy

RE: Campground Membership?

depends on the type of membership you are talking about. the 1/2 price ones for $39.99 are easy to recoup your investment. just check the web sites to check out locations and restrictions before you buy. the expensive ones with additional annual fees are not worth it IMHO. bumpy

RE: eletric heater for motorhome

the most comfortable electric heater is the oil filled radiator type. I use them in my homes, no hot/cold pulsation, no fire risk. bumpy

I think that the most important space increaser in a B van would be in having a slideout. it would eliminate some of that claustrophobic closed in feeling. bumpy
