RE: Atlantic City Campgrounds
Fern,
I think Blueberry Hill is open all year, but I'm not sure. We were there once in April. It's closer than 45 minutes. It was decent.
Hi Pat!
Long time, no see! Thanks for the info. Blueberry Hill. So far, it seems to be the top choice.
RE: Disney Tickets
I wish I could take advantage of that right now but finances don't allow for that. Thanks very much for the heads up, though. It's nice how we all take care of each other on this forum!
Atlantic City Campgrounds
My DH and I are considering going to the Atlantic City RV show the weekend of November 13th, which is around our 24th anniversary. Does anyone know of a nice campground near there that would be open that time of year?
RE: Ever met another RV.net member?
Oh you gotta elaborate on that one. A business partner? On a general yak forum? How cool. I've heard of meeting your spouse on some of the meeting sites, but a business partner?
Tell me more!
My DH and I have been forum members for awhile. About 5 or so years ago, he began talking to another forum member online, as well as through PM, who lives relatively local to us. They became friendly and I think even spoke on the phone a couple of times. Then one day when my DH was at work, this RV.net member shows up there, introduces himself and they hit it off in person as well. Although they both had day jobs, they started an RV related business on the side, which has now grown to the point where they both work full time for the business!
RE: The bathroom in the bedroom delema
It's a matter of personal preference, of course, but I have no desire to have the shower in my bedroom. We like having our side hall bathroom. The bathroom is not in our bedroom at all and the bedroom is quite spacious. We also have a real door to our bedroom as opposed to those accordian doors that don't make it to the floor and give you very little, if any, privacy whatsoever. As a matter of fact, this is the largest fiver bedroom we have ever had. That said, it's a Cardinal 3802BH and it's 40 feet long!
RE: How Many of You Homeschool?
I have found this discussion very interesting and informative! Now I have another question for those of you who homeschool: when your child is ready for college, how do you know and/or do you have to "prove" that he/she has fulfilled the admissions requirements? Do you have to provide an "official" transcript like public school children do? I also see that some people have a problem with standardized testing and, unfortunately, to apply to many colleges you have to provide SAT and/or ACT scores. They are a necessary evil for admission. That said, there are colleges that don't require them. So, my question is if you do not support standardized testing, do you, for lack of a better term or phrase, "encourage or allow" your child to apply to a college that requires SAT and/or ACT scores?
RE: How Many of You Homeschool?
I'm interested in learning a couple of things about home schooling:
1. Other than schedule flexibility, what are the advantages?
2. What do you do when your child is learning about a topic that you know nothing about? Isn't it difficult to help them? For example, my DD is taking a college level Pre-Calculus (public school)class as a senior this year (final exam is on Monday), and I am helpless to help her. I struggled with it myself in college, wound up memorizing it, and didn't learn anything (which is the true shame of it all). She has been going to a tutor for over a year now (Physics and Math last year, Pre-Calc this year). She needs these classes as she is majoring in engineering next year in college. If I had to be the one to help her, she would have failed, LOL.
RE: State Parks With Full Hook Ups?
Is there such a thing as a state park with full hook ups? I've been on this forum for a long time and the state parks discussed sound very nice; scenic, relatively quiet, etc. However, we have a large rig (40 ft, 5 slides) and we really need 50 AMP and we truly prefer full hook ups. Does such a state park exist that would accommodate our needs?
Please forgive me this is not meant to be insulting, But why do you need FHU? You list the amount of slides and size of your rig. But the real issue for dry camping is what are your tank sizes? Length and amount of slides is irrelevant. Your rig is large. I imagine your tank capacity is also large. Some state parks only offer smaller sites however I have no problem finding state parks to accommodate my 38' TT
State parks are great places. Generally larger sites. less hectic, less crowded and much cheaper than private CG's.
Many in my area have electric only. I imagine in the heat of summer you may have 2 A/C's to run. There are a few 50 amp sites but most are 30 amp. With electric only most rigs will operate very effectively. Other than extremely hot days your rig should operate well on 30 amps
Using our 35 gallon tote my family of 4 can easily stay for a full week at an electric only site.
You should try an electric only site. You may find you really don't need FHU.
We prefer full hook ups even though we have large tanks because I do not want to be concerned about limiting water use or filling up the black or gray water tanks. My DH really doesn't want to have to use the dump station, either. When we go camping, I don't want to rough it in the least. That's why we own the kind of rig that we do. When we go away, I don't want my life to be more difficult than it already is. Our idea of "roughing it" is a campground without cable, LOL!
RE: Mills-Norrie SP, NY
I live near Norrie and have participated in many scouting events there. My children are cross country runners and part of the course runs through there. That said,I personally wouldn't camp there. There are no full hook-ups at Norrie, just water and electric, the bath houses are nothing to write home about, either. If you like a really rustic campground this could be right up your alley. It's in the town of Staatsburg which is a suburb of Hyde park, the home of FDR. If you're into history, there are historical sites to visit in the area. There will be parades in town and I'm sure there will be fireworks. In addition, if you like drive-in movies, we have one of the few surviving drive-in theaters in the state.
RE: Where ya goin to be for the 4th of July??
In the beginning of the week we'll be in Charlotte, NC, bringing DD to college registration at UNCC. After that we'll be at Kings Dominion Amusement Park in VA.
RE: Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort
We were at Fort Wilderness this past Christmas in our 40 ft fiver with 5 slides. No problem! If you stay at a hotel on site, even the budget hotels, you will have to go out to eat more often because, to the best of my knowledge unless you rent one of those villas, you won't be able to cook for yourself. I suppose you could pack a cooler and have cereal for breakfast every morning . . . Anyway, I like to sleep in my own bed. As for a meal plan, we did not do one and I'm sorry that we didn't. We do enjoy going out to eat periodically and although our intention was to go back to the campground at times to eat, we did that less often than we thought we would. In part it was because of the crowds and the length of the lines for the rides that made us hang out at the park for a longer amount of time. In any case, I figured out that for those times we HAD planned in advance that we would go out to eat combined with what was unplanned (mostly counter meals for four people), it would have cost less to do the basic dining plan AND we would have gotten more total meals/snacks. The next time, I'm doing a dining plan.
RE: Mountain Springs, Shartlesville, Pa
The squeaky wheel gets the oil. If enough people complain, the management will do something about it because it would be bad business if they didn't. If they don't do anything about it, I would take my business elsewhere just out of principle and I would let the management know why I would not give them my business as well. In addition, I would post a review on rvparkreviews.com. Word of mouth is bad for business as well.
RE: Norcold refrigerator - cold then turn warm
One way to check the thermister is to disconnect it and let it run for 24 hrs. It should about freeze the fridge when unplugged. It is located at the light inside. Unplug it and wait. If it gets way too cold, bad thermister. If it continues the way it is, it could be as easy as a board to a cooling unit.

RE: Something sad at the campground this weekend
When my nephew was 12 (he's now almost 23 and in medical school) he attended a week long bike riding camp where the kids would ride through the many nice bike trails through our town. He was riding down a paved road through one of our state parks and was looking behind him to see how close his friend was behind him. When he turned around he hit smack into a tree. He had no time to react at all. Thank God he was wearing a helmet because the helmet was cracked right down the middle. If he hadn't been wearing a helmet, that would have been his head. My sister and BIL bought him a new helmet and a new bike (unfortunately, the bike was toast as well). Better than shopping for a casket. Parents need to realize that it is THEIR responsibility to enforce the rules and to insist that their children follow them. If it is a state law, as well as for SAFETY, that your child must wear a helmet, make them wear a helmet. Just because we were lucky to survive without a helmet does not mean your child will. There's a lot more traffic now and, in general, our society is different. You can't compare your childhood to that of your child's.
RE: Farewell, Robin Hill CG
I know how you feel about "the end of an era." Our DD will be heading to college in NC this Fall and although I know that she will continue to camp with us when she's able, who knows how often that will be? It's bittersweet but on the bright side, we're looking forward to numerous camping trips to NC over the next four years!
RE: Campgrounds in North Carolina/South Virginia
I used to live in the Charlotte area and created this Google Map of all the nearby CG's that I knew of... I hope it helps.
Thank you so much! I took a look at this and it is incredibly helpful!!
RE: Camp Hatteras, NC
Forgive my ignorance, but if you're not much of a beach person, what is there to do in the Camp Hatteras area? The place sounds nice, but we're not much into hanging out at the beach. We like to go out and do things like drive go carts, amusement parks, etc. Is there anything in that area like that?
