RE: Seadoo/Jetski info for a wannabe buyer...please?

Question: What causes most engine failures on these? Running them without oil(premix) or not keeping the oil injection res. full? How bout flooding the engine compartment? or overheating? I'm just trying to get an idea of what causes most failures. thanks

RE: Seadoo/Jetski info for a wannabe buyer...please?

Lake Jackson...heh we were just down that way back in december(Daughters St. Scoccer Tournament). Thanks for the info. I'm looking now for summer for a Decent "deal" but i don't wanna get stuck w/a "Dud". What kinda MPGs are we talking about(avg vs. hp) & i haven't even though about a reverse. Maybe a 98-00ish "with issues" three seater may be a option...BUT Only if the price is WAY TOO GOOD to pass up. I'm the type that will just about tackle any type of repair on my own. I just can't stand to pay anyone to work on my stuff. Am i barking up the wrong tree with this idea or are these PWCs shade tree mech. friendly?

Seadoo/Jetski info for a wannabe buyer...please?

Good day all. I'm considering getting a PWC. I/we currently have a 20ft Glasstron bowrider & i've owned boats for years & years...but never a PWC. This would be an addition to my/our "toys". I have 2 teenage girls & we always go RVing & boating for summer entertainment. However it's just so much you can do with one boat & a load of teenagers & friends that all want to tube & ski at the same time. My thinking is a PWC may make a good addition for some varied fun. I know all about the boating regulations regarding minors & PWCs so that not my question/s. My questions are regarding brands & year models, two seat vs. three & HP rateing vs. fun factor & MPGs. I'm NOT looking for new..it's more like 96-2000 years model range & maybe a three seater. Iv'e found & seen them sold on Craigslist in less than a day (models in this year range for as cheap as $1000-to-2500). So whats the scoop on these,...i need some schooling...thanks for any advice in advance.

RE: Home AC question...for any AC techs out there...UPDATE

Denny I repaired a Lennox recently that had a cold solder joint on that board. I resoldered it & it works fine. It was intermittant and drove me crazy for a while. The bad solder joint was easy to see with the board pulled off & turned over.] Thanks to all...."drum roll please"......And the problem was,...Bad traces & or cold solder joints on the control board. There were 3 bad or suspect looking areas on the PC board. I repaired (with thin wire), the suspect traces & resoldered the questionable solder joints. I don't know which one it actually was, but it appears to be working now. It got so bad as to make to fan relay go click, click, click...etc Loudly as the motor only half-a$$ed ran. As soon as i hooked up the control board & turned to power on ....Wa La...No more stupid clicking & the unit kicked on normally with the fan running at speed. So i then cleaned out the mice nests out of the compressor space, put in some rodent posion & buttoned her up! THANKS EVERYONE AGAIN!

RE: Home AC question...for any AC techs out there...UPDATE

Thanks to all...I have yet to tear into the unit(i however did just quick check it & while on heat yesterday evening, the fan was running fine) So from some of the excellent suggestions posted here...i think i'm going to look for a cold solder joint on the defrost board. THANKS I'll update when i find out more. THANKS AGAIN Oh one more question... how much savings could i expect if i was to trade up from a 4 tonn 10SEER(what i have now) to a 14SEER or higher???

RE: Home AC question...for any AC techs out there...UPDATE

Right, check for any bad/burnt connections, observe voltage & current meter readings. If both look good then a new motor is in order. This can be a DIY job if you are so inclined. Motor shops will have the motor you need, perhaps online as well. Should cost around $30-$50, be sure a new cap is included. The hardest part is going to be removing the fan from the motor shaft. They are usually rusted on like heck. If you have to call someone out to do it, expect to pay in the $200-$350 range. Been there, done that...PITA on removing the fan from the shaft!

RE: Home AC question...for any AC techs out there...UPDATE

I make my living fixing and installing air conditioners, so maybe I can help. First, do you know if you have a variable speed motor? If the system is quite new and in the upper SEER class it is variable speed. ....It's 16 years old single speed 10 SEER If it is the standard model, the motor is a normal fan motor. If I was called to this job I would just replace the motor, if the wiring checked out ok. Iv'e replaced the motor about 5 years ago...$ the CAP too I do not try to explain why the motor died, just that it is "bad" and a new motor is the simplest and most surefire way to solve the problem. And when installing the new motor the capacitor is ALWAYS replaced with new. If it is indeed a variable speed, further testing is needed to see if the motor is the problem or the end bell assembly of the motor, which controls it. I think i'll get into the circuits & trace to motor power leads & meter them to see if the actual curret is surging. At least this way i know for sure if it's the motor.

RE: Home AC question...for any AC techs out there...UPDATE

Actually the fan is turning(at speed)...but you can tell the RPM drop & increase every 1/2 to 1 sec.

Home AC question...for any AC techs out there...UPDATE

I have a 4tonn Lennoex heatpump. My problem is when either on cool or heat,...the outside Fan(not compresser) does not run constantly. It seems like it cuts in & out every 1/2 sec....kinda like you would be switching it on & off every 1/2-1 sec. The compresser runs fine. It heats &/or cools, it's just the outside fan thats giving me problems. Could it be the actual motor or a relay cutting it & out that fast & constantly. Thanks in advance.
