RE: Newell 2007 for sale

You know, to each his own. These things are so fancy & over the top, that I just don't think I would feel comfortable in one...it wouldn't feel like "home" to me. Guess it wouldn't kill me to try if I had the $$ though...:C
CraigMy wife and I discussed that some time ago. Even if we could afford it we probably wouldn't have one. Just like our DSDP, woe could have afforded much more, just didn't need or want all the extra doodads and frills that really don't add much to the RV life.

RE: Newell 2007 for sale

Just looked at the pictures, sorry, there's a window behind where the headboard should be. My wife hates that so I guess I'll have to pass it by.

RE: How big should my bottle jack be?

just another caution, place a pc. of wood or steel plate between the axle and the bottle jack. The axle is hollow and you will be concentrating a lot of weight on a small area of the axle.Never jack on the axle housing itself, you put the jack under the spring/suspension mounts

RE: How big should my bottle jack be?

My MH weighs about 19,500 lbs on the rear axle.
I want to carry a bottle jack for emergencies since I do not have leveling jacks.
So do I need a 6 ton or 8 ton or 12 ton bottle Jack to securely lift one side of the rear axle?I have HWH jacks that are rated to lift the entire unit completely off the ground and keep it there for an extended time but I still carry a 20 ton bottle jack.

RE: 50 amp to 120 volt adapter

I have a simple adapter that goes for a standard 50 amp RV connection to a 15 amp plug. Kind of looks like a hockey puck and isn't much thicker. I, uh "confiscated" it from the selling dealer after they kept my rig for 113 days and two antennas were stolen from it on their lot. They refused to replace the antennas so ...

RE: 06 HR Endeavor with fire dammage

I garantee you that your roof styrofoam has been melted under that fiberglass roof!!!!!!!! :EAnd since a lot of RV's use Styrofoam in the walls for insulation guess what else may be melted?

Too many really good used units out there for me to want to take a chance on it. I'd pass on it.

RE: Soot on Toad

That is what diesel does. Now why it goes down the side is beyond me. It is usually a vacuum thing behind the coach or whatever. I get it on the back of my car too. White VW Jetta TDI 1.9 liter diesel with soot on the back always.
Also you could be overfilling the oil a bit. Diesels will blow out oil thru the breather tube if you you keep it filled up to the top off line. Let it find its happy spot and it will stay there. If it isn't "overfilled" there is a screen where the breather tube comes out of the valve cover. That screen could be dirty. Clean it. That should stop any oil and smoke from coming out.Our ISC throws oil out if I fill it to the "Full" mark. Leave it half way between the add and full and it's fine.

RE: Soot on Toad

Remove right foot from throttle. Excessive smoke and soot indicates too much throttle.Actually it indicates overfueling/poor combustion which might be caused by too much throttle. If you have one of the newer electronic controlled diesels you shouldn't get much soot.

RE: Tire Pressure

The placard from Freight Liner & the one from National say 120 PSI front & rearThat's guaranteed to be wrong unless you're at maximum weight for the rig both front and rear. Should only be used if you've never followed the manuals and gotten the rig weighed. Until you have accurate 4 "corner" weights you are just guessing at the required pressure. One you get the weights you can use the pressure/weight charts provided by your tire manufacturer.

RE: Hawks Head TPM Sensor theft - Problem or not?

Yes, there have been reports of some being stolen. I used to be a PP dealer and there was at least one report of someone parking for the night, his alarm went off. Thinking he just had a low tire he shut the monitor off. When he checked the next morning he found the sensors gone. So it does happen.

RE: Kountry Star and Phaetons

Look up the recalls on the Road ranger and the Spartan see who has the most. That's not going to do much as Spartan has thousands more units out there. You need to correlate units made to units recalled andd trhen for what over how many years to come to any meaningful answer.
Kind of like people posting about Michelin tire problems in comparison to GoodYear. There are thousands more Michelins out there on MH's than GoodYears so even if the precentag of problems is the same there will be more Michelin problems reported. Now that GoodYear is gaining some market share the number of problem reports about GoodYear is also going up.
Bad data gives bad conclusions every time.

RE: Honda Accord Crosstour towable?

So, does anybody know what the owner's manual says? I couldn't find the owner's manual on line?I have never found an official Honda owners manual published by Honda online yet. I would say a trip to the dealers or a call to Honda's Customer Support line would be in order.
My guess is that the answer is a definate NO!

RE: Licensing an RV in Montana

Recovery of this lost revenue on the federal level is also underway. The IRS has recently been declaring many of these LLC's as being "void of economic substance", a position which has been upheld in some federal districts.
Many of my fellow Forum members will tell you that the IRS has nothing to do with this because its a state affair.
What they don't understand, however, is that if the IRS prevails (as it has in many districts), the LLC's federal tax status is immediately and retroactively dissolved and thereby reverts to a PERSONAL tax status.
Once the LLC is dead, the tax shelter will also die if the LLC's federal tax status is corporate (as opposed to partnership or sole proprietorship).
Once the corporate tax shelter disappears, the personal income tax prevails. Because personal income tax rates are generally higher than corporate income tax rates, taxes may be due and if the state in question has a personal income tax (which most do), state income taxes will also be due. The MT LLC is a holding company so there is no income to pay taxes on, why would the IRS be interested in a company that has no income? The LLC is not required to filed a tax return since there is no income so once again why would the IRS be interested? There is no loss of tax revenue since there is no income.
Holding companies can have income, that's what tripped up the attorney and owners in the one case I have. The attorney set it up to rent the MH back to the owner, that "rental" is income. It was determined that the rental wasn't enough to make a profit for the LLC.

RE: Lighter vs heavier toads?

Having bought my first RV ('04 42' Monaco Dynasty, 400 Cummins, tag axle) I am searching for a suitable toad. I know more weight means slower acceleration and braking but is there going to be a noticeable difference between towing a 3200 lb CRV or towing a 4400 lb Pilot? I'd appreciate hearing from those of you who have experience with towing differnt vehicles with the same RV. Thanks.
Thanks all for the good information which will make the decision easier as I was leaning toward the heavier one.
Phil J.Pilots from the '05 model year and newer are not towable four down or on a dolly according to Honda, trailer only.
We tow a '05 Ody on a dolly, the Ody weighs 4,700#'s according to the state weight and the dolly is another 525#'s. Our hitch is rated for 6,000#'s but the MH is rated to tow 10,000. No problems and it wrks just fine.

RE: Black Friday Sales

We got up a little after 5 am (I worked till midnight and got to bed about 1:30 am). Went to the mall a little after 6 am and parked in a spot right next to the door. Wife went to CJ Banks for clothing, I went to Sears to buy a Samsung washer/dryer. The first sales person said they were sold out then tried to switch me to a higher priced set. Told her I wasn't interested. Grandson and I left, but wife insisted we go back and see if another store had them. Turns out they weren't out so we bought a set from a different salesperson! Sure hope they fit in our laundry room, they're about 6" deeper than what we now have and I don't want to knock out a wall or leave a door off.
At no time was it crowded, the worst shopping was at Penny's where we had to wait a couple minutes to get checked out. Hardly any crowds anywhere we went. Then we stopped at Shari's for breakfast and had to wait about 10 min for a table there. That was the most crowded place we went all day. Wife did go back to Fred Meyer's and there were no big crowds there either.

Good Sam's Highways did the same thing a while back. I'd cancel too, but I have a life membership.Well, you could call and cancel it.
Highways is the first magazine I throw away, nothing much in it but advertising and stories abouto how good they are. I prefer real information, not patting their back.

RE: 14.9% interest!!!!

Anybody get the notice from Sears about their raising the rates on their Chase VISA cards? Something over 17% for normal purchases and topping at 29%!!
We just bought a washer/dryer their today to get the low price you have to buy on their CC, but there's nothing about not paying it off at the first billing. Could have writting a check but wanted the low price.
