RE: Converting my dully to a 10 wheel drive to handle Toyhauler

I think I want ad that a month ago I was out in the RV broke a trailer spring and it ripped off the brake lines I didn't have any breaks thank God the truck could stop it. Yes that is a very good piece of mind to have...but not all of us can or ever will...just a fact of life I guess but ANY truck that is rated to pull that would have been able to stop it too, it may have just taken a bit longer. I have been watching your builds for a while, as the other poster said, I too love them for what they are...and as always, I am sorry for your loss and thank you and your son for his service. Keep sharing...

RE: About to buy Voltage 3905 but.....

What are you doing inside watching TV during the day anyway? You should be outside, surfing, the internet, on your iPad....shees...lol Because most of the NASCAR races are run during daylight hours. Oh I get it...your parked at the track and can't stand all the noise so you go inside to watch the race on TV. #JustKidding Can't you see the whole track from the top of your RV? You need a better spot...lol

RE: Quality Toy Hauler

We have a Voltage 3200 which is great. the quality is good and so far just minor issues to repair. Compared to other issues people here and other sites post I feel lucky we got the voltage. I think they make a 2900 series also. I do not think they make anything smaller. I don't think he said fifth wheel...I think he said toy hauler...? My 5th wheeler is a toy hauler. That's great for you, but you said they don't make a TOY HAULER shorter than that...which isn't true. There are MUCH shorter TOY HAULERS out there.

RE: Some very interesting new toyhaulers out there...

My goal is to have our 45' hauler with detachable 20' garage, loaded with toys, booze, stripper pole and 1000lbs of steaks slid out the rear end of C130 onto where ever we decide to go camping.....I would then use our cheap helicopter to transport us to camp, along with our domestic help ofcourse....I prefer chef cooked meals, im spoiled. It just isn't camping anymore is it...? I get it, trust me, to each his own and I also get the race. I have now come to the conclusion that what I want, what I can afford, and what I need are three VERY different things. I still try not to judge others desires. I just can't compete.

RE: Toy Hauler vs. Race Trailer?

The black and gray sizes are no big deal but the fresh water size sucks big time. We get six showers out of it with other normal usage. Look into a couple of 40gal blue barrels to add as end tables in the lounge and you would have 80gal on reserve...plumb it to a transfer pump and away you go...might even be able to rinse the Jeep B4 loading...;-)

RE: 6V Battery Box - A must for bumper pull TH!

Dougboy the battery boxes are bolted to the box so they dont move and noting goes the battery box that can short out the batteries. The holes in the shelf on top of the batteris I put screws on so nothing can go through down to the batteries. I still have the tops and straps but not having them on makes the batteries easier to check.. My bad...I thought the "cover" was a sub-floor...I see it clearly now though. ;-)

RE: Introduction and question all in one :-)

The reason I'm using plywood is because the FRP is not strong enough if I wanted to put a shelf and I'm still unsure what else I'm going to do with the trailer. -Tim The 1/4" wont hold much either...remember the road jars your teeth at times, what do you suppose it does to weight on the 1/4" plywood? You need to put up anchor strips attached to the frame where ever you plan on "hanging" more than a picture or plastic mirror on the wall. Which leads me to a great addition...the "full length" plastic "dorm room" mirrors. Find a spot for one, they are very handy and not just for seeing how big my riding pants makes my butt look...lol ;-)

RE: Wheel and Axle Alignment Question

speaking of alignment, i get bad tire marks when turning.. is this a sign of axle alignment? Yes, the axles are aligned to go straight not turn...just like they are supposed to. Does not mean they are aligned correctly or not, no, just that they are NOT aligned to turn like you are. Not that they are supposed to be, but that is all anyone could tell from your tire marks.

RE: OUCH$$$ Fuel station pump

Finally getting that rubber o ring gasket to stay in the groove can be very tricky. I wound up putting a very small drop of super glue in the groove in 4 locations around the plate and then I was able to get it to stay in place long enough to install it. Sort of a bad idea, I won't go into why...Vaseline or something like that is all you should need.

RE: So, you bought a toy hauler...what would you do differently?

Now they are regular 5th wheels with a garage attached. The penalty is a 31' 5th wheel + 12' garage = 43' and 18K. In who's world would that be a "penalty?" :h ;)

RE: 6V Battery Box - A must for bumper pull TH!

I did a similar mod. I used a Delta Tongue Box. I also used individual battery boxes and added vents. So what did you do with the straps and lids that came with the boxes? The WHOLE point of the individual boxes is so the lids isolate the connections from metal objects that MAY cause a short/arc...as in the metal box you mounted them in...?

RE: GPS

Hello. I've saved this thread for future reference and now that we're in the market for a GPS, we'd like to know your final word on these GPS. The 3450LM is expensive, has it been worth it? Do any or all of these show satellite maps while on the trail? I think that's the most important thing, since I like to use my phone's Google Satellite maps, to find our way while riding. Thank you for the update. Why wouldn't you just keep using the phone...there is an app for that.

RE: 6V Battery Box - A must for bumper pull TH!

Like I said before...the zig-zag isn't helping you any. It is just giving things room to move. What would it cost to add another strap? $5? Replace every 10 to 25,000 miles as needed based on wear. (That is ten not ten thousand. I have seen straps cut through that fast...but not mine.) As for the slots in the wings, that is a great place for tire spray to "fill the box" with water. I would seal those up as best you can. A vent in the rear facing wall would be the best option. I like what you have done but I am not going to give up on the PLASTIC BATTERY BOX w\LID designed to ...wait for it... hold and isolate a battery. Now if you NEVER tow in the rain, snow, mud, beach, (heavy) fog, off road, or the likes there of, you should be fine. I also see a couple of places where you have a wire near a edge of the aluminum.

RE: WW ramp door spring snapped

I'll check HD and Lowes however I think these springs are too small to be used on any home garage. I did find them on Ebay although $80 shipped is a bit much. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Toy-Hauler-Ramp-Garage-Door-Spring-Black-P-328-/230873145884?pt=Motors_RV_Trailer_Camper_Parts_Accessories&hash=item35c11ca21c&vxp=mtr That is why I said "Look for a garage door repair place... " They can size it to your needs and would be local...I always try to go local...or is that LOCO...?

RE: 6V Battery Box - A must for bumper pull TH!

Hi, that box came out very nice. I agree that the box has to be vented, there will be a gas build up and not only is it dangerous, the gasses will corode that solar controller in no time. No worries about the batteries hitting the top of the box, they are so heavy they will never bounce up and hit. Please don't give advice to something you have absolutely no knowledge of...and could cause a life threatening situation. That whole weave back and forth of the strap was a bad idea. Two straps one in front one in back would have been better, but...boat style battery boxes with lids and securing clips inside the tool box would be even better. (As stated by others) they would be one of the cheapest parts of the project. As others have mentioned, you NEED to get those things isolated from the metal.

RE: From Travel trailer to toy hauler

no doubt that there is a wide gap between what they claim and reality. I could point out things on even high end units (arctic fox) that would just make you wonder what, if anything they were thinking. The feeling by them that it only has to make it off the lot is apparent. RV's like autos have been made for enough years that there is no excuse for not knowing what works and what does not. And lets not get started on the RV salesmen. I just jacked my own thread. So, if I understand your post, all units are junk? I doubt that is true but whatever, that wasn't the OP's question. Unless I miss-read the question he wanted to know if a toyhauler was a good choice as a travel trailer. As per those of us who think we know how to read the answer was yes...Did I get something wrong?? IMO.. Highway 4x4 IS the OP....fyi. You didn't read his last sentence... I just jacked my own thread.
