RE: Help identifying these two places

I believe is in Utah: http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x271/shihracer/1975Kip.jpg height=480 Does anyone have an idea as to where these places are? Thanks for any help. That looks like eastern Utah to me. Maybe around Price or Green River. Those look like the Book Cliffs in the background.

RE: No electricity at Fishing Bridge this summer-2010

Is Canyon in a good location? ie center of park? Yellowstone is a big park and no campground is really central to all of it, but Canyon is as good a location as any.

RE: No electricity at Fishing Bridge this summer-2010

We are also in the same boat, as it were. My DW is insisting that the water and sewer hookups will be essential for our 5 day stay there (with a total of 6 in our TT) Otherwise I would be dumping the blue tote twice each morning after the gals shower. Any other 'inside' Yellowstone parks have sewer hookups? No other campground has hookups. But if showering is your main concern there is an excellent shower and laundry facility at Canyon, and showers can be purchased at Roosevelt, Mammoth and Old Faithful.

RE: Generators In No Hookup Campgrounds: A Poll

1. Yes, frequently. Even the so-called quiet ones can be annoying when they are set up right next to your campsite, and many campers show up with cheap units that are more suitable to an urban construction site. 3. Absolutly. Running a noisy generator impacts everyone that has to listen to it. Please give us a place where we can escape them. #1: Not true, the newer quiet generators are EXTREMELY quiet, I have had them set up right next to my campsite. Maybe this was a newer model I was next to. #3: Generator users in my experience have been very responsible and only use them as needed for battery charging, watching some TV and running a microwave. With the advent of short-range digital TV, that's over anyway except in urban campgrounds. It sounds like you've had more courteous campground neighbors than I have.

RE: Yellowstone campgrounds

Yea, I just got a call from Fishingbridge; no power until summer of 2011 they hope!!! No explanation. Looking for another good place somewhere between Yellowstone and Tetons with power.... Flagg Ranch Resort is the ONLY place between Yellowstone and the Tetons with hookups.

RE: No electricity at Fishing Bridge this summer-2010

If you remove electrical power from the equation there's really no reason to stay in a dump like Fishing Bridge. Try Madison, Canyon, Bridge Bay or Grant if you want reservations. If you're feeling adventurous, it's not too hard to score a spot in any of the other campgrounds if you get there early enough. There are 11 other campgrounds in Yellowstone, all of which are better than FB, and some of which rank among the finest campgrounds anywhere. And yes, plenty of people go to Yellowstone for the camping.

RE: Generators In No Hookup Campgrounds: A Poll

I tent in campgrounds that allow generators and really do not limit the hours. #1 Have you had your camping experience disturbed by generator use? #2 How many hours do you think campgrounds should limit generator use to? #3 Do you think CGs should designate certain areas for generators for medical needs and severely limit or not allow generators elsewhere? 1. Yes, frequently. Even the so-called quiet ones can be annoying when they are set up right next to your campsite, and many campers show up with cheap units that are more suitable to an urban construction site. 2. I understand that some people feel they need them - God knows how people managed before generators where available. With that in mind, I'm OK with 2 hour slot in the morning and a 2 hour slot in the evening for the running of generators. 3. Absolutly. Running a noisy generator impacts everyone that has to listen to it. Please give us a place where we can escape them.

RE: Yellowstone trip

I work in Yellowstone during the summer. You will definitely need a reservation. The seven NPS campground, which are run on a first come, first serve basis, were normally full by 10 or 11 o'clock. Of course you can flip that around and say that the NPS campgrounds always have vacancies before 10:00 or 11:00 a.m., and that if a person is willing a to get on the road early enough they will never need reservations. I camp in Yellowstone every year, sometimes for up to three weeks. The only reservations I have ever made are for the first night I am arriving at the park.

RE: W. Yellowstone to W. Glacier

We head west out of Yellowstone and then go north. Stay on the right side of the road and stop every now and then to get some fresh air, fish a little and enjoy the country. In a day or two we are in West Glacier. There is not right or wrong way to go and best is hopefully what you want to be doing and enjoying it. I have to agree with this assessment. I've criss-crossed western Montana eight times on four different trips to Glacier N.P., each time I try to vary my route a little. I haven't been disappointed yet. Spectacular state.

RE: W. Yellowstone to W. Glacier

Thanks everyone. I was kind of thinking the faster way but maybe the scenic would be interesting. East side of Flathead is the best route. West side is more scenic, east side is faster. Dealer's choice.

RE: Sand Hollow State Park in Dec???

1) Can anyone tell me how far of a drive it is from Sand Hollow State Park to Cedar City? About 45 miles. 2) How about from Quail Creek SP to Cedar City? Is it a lot shorter? About 37 miles. 3) also, which is better between the two, Quail Creek or Sand Hollow? Are they both full hook-ups? thanks I like Sand Hollow better for the red-rock surroundings. It is the more scenic of the two in my opinion. It does have full hook-up sites, Quail Creek does not.

RE: Boondocking RV

I met the couple that owned this rv: TurtleV Gary and Monika have been criss-crossing the globe for decades in one rv or the other. The latest is the Turtle 5, a custom built camper based on Ford's Super Duty F-550 4X4. They gave me a tour of the vehicle that left me very impressed with it's capabilities and build quality. Gary said he is considering making up a limited run of similar vehicles for sale if there is enough interest to merit it. They have a sales brochure available they'll send you if you are interested.

RE: Boondocking West Yellowstone

Boondocking is restricted around West Yellowstone, but there are some excellent FS campgrounds: Rainbow Point, Baker's Hole, Lonesomehurst, Beaver Creek, Cabin Creek

RE: Rough road advice needed (Not anymore! We got it home.)

COming up the switchbacks in Kane Creek Canyon, Moab. About a 20-24% grade, unpaved, not smooth. Did not alter tire pressure. I did not remove the WD bars, but the hitch had already self destructed at that point so I didn't have any weight distribution anyways. In hindsight, I probably would have had to reduce weight distribution for traction. http://oregonstate.edu/~carringb/Trailer/small%20redrocks%20moab%2007%20165.jpg http://oregonstate.edu/~carringb/Trailer/small%20redrocks%20moab%2007%20167.jpg :E So, how did you come to be there?

RE: Cody Wy

Another vote for the Ponderosa. It's a nice place and it's an easy walk from there to the Buffalo Bill Museum. They offer a shuttle bus to the rodeo too.

RE: Distance to campground

I have a very rough rule of thumb: I'll drive about 1 hour for every night I'll be staying at a campground. Thus, if I'm only camping one night, it shouldn't be much more than an hour away; two nights and I'm willing to travel around two hours to get there, and so on. It's not a hard and fast rule, but if I'm going to spend a lot of time driving to get somewhere I better be able to spend a lot of time camping when I get there.

RE: Headed for Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks

Are reservations needed/required at these two parks? Thanks again, Clint Reservations are recommended at Colter Bay and Flagg Ranch trailer villages in the Grand Tetons; and Bridge Bay, Canyon, Fishing Bridge, Grant and Madison campgrounds in Yellowstone. All other campgrounds are first-come-first-served.

RE: Rough road advice needed (Not anymore! We got it home.)

Equalizer recommends disconnecting the WDH when traveling off-road, which by your description applies here. There is a risk of bending the trailer frame, and reduced articulation at the hitch could, under some conditions, unload the weight from your rear tires and leave you without traction.

RE: What do you tow with?

I tow my Fleetwood E1 with a 2007 Nissan Xterra. Tow rating is 5000 lbs/500 lbs. tongue weight, sufficient for most pop ups and for some light-weight travel trailers. Towing power is more than adequate, even for the high mountain passes in Utah. My only complaint is that the rear suspension of the Xterra is tuned more for comfort than load hauling, the springs are too weak for my liking. Consequently, there is significant rear squat when the hitch is is loaded, pretty much making a weight-distributing hitch a necessity for all but the lightest trailers.
