Spare tire hoist repair
The cable on our spare tire carrier broke. It's the crank up hoist type on our '04 Montana Mountaineer and I'm sure many other trailers use the same or similar deal. I checked with our local dealer (Mike Thompsons RV) and was told they run about $160 plus shipping. You can't buy the parts, you must replace the entire assembly. That's nuts!
I'd like to just replace the broken wire rope that attaches to the tire carrier and goes into the little wench. Has anyone else ever repaired them?
Thanks,
John
What vehicles can be flat towed?
We're in the process of moving from our 5th wheel to a Class A and need to start looking at our options on what to buy to tow behind it. We want a 4 door and prefer 4x4, but its not a must have item. I'm considering the newer Jeep Wrangler 4 door but would like to hear about all the options we have. Something late model and nice enough to drive as a daily driver is another must. We're thinking '04-'07, not brand new.
Is there a list of vehicles out there that can be flat towed without adding brake controllers, transmission add-ons, etc?
