RE: Have you stayed in Yuma Foothills?

We've spent six winters in the Foothills, the first five at Shangra La RV Park, but we now stay on a private lot with a garage to use as a "living room". Not only is the lot cheaper but better with a lot more room. You'll love the the Yuma area.

RE: Anyone Buying a New Motorhome?

A recent post titled Monaco "New Frontier" Rally at Beaudry RV discussed Monaco selling pre-manufactured units at 50% off of wholesale without warranties. Of course, the new Monaco can't make and sell products at a loss, so one could assume things should go back to the usual 25 or 30% off of MSRP. Heaven help us if they ever decide to price things at the actual selling price.

RE: Residential stacked washer / dryer?

Add to the 220volt requirement and the motor tie down while being moved, they have to be perfectly flat while being used. That's fine in a stick house, but might pose problems in a coach that gets moved.

RE: Modification for Increased air flow to Rear Radiator

My 1993 Navigator has standard air ducts on the top of the back cap that send cool air to the top of the engine compartment, just above the rear access hatch. I have a side radiator and I assume the warmed air from the radiator flows out under the engine and out the back of the coach. I notice that none of the newer Navigators have this ventilation option, so I'm wondering if it was found to be unnecessary.

RE: installing a dishwasher

I installed a Fischer-Paykel dishdrawer three years ago and the wife loves it. The dishdrawer dishwasher is the same size as a propane oven and not as large as a household washer, but it works well and uses very little water. Unfortunately, they are expensive. Several newer top level motorhomes come with the Fisher-Paykel as standard equipment or as an option.

RE: 08 Monaco advice

Aside from making sure you get a discount of over 50%, and understanding the warranty is non-existant, you could have a good coach for the money. Monaco is back in business and may eventually make this model again, so it may not be an orphan. Shop around. Compare prices of used Knights with the one you're looking at. Good luck.

RE: Engine coolant--Did I screw up?

Cummins ISC and ISL engines use a wet sleeve cylinder liner which requires a specific kind of anti-freeze to prevent cavitations. The Cummins techs at a seminar I attended said the regular green stuff everyone else gets to use won't work. The stuff used in the ISB is also different and won't work. Cummins bought Fleetguard, so if you stick with the right type within that Fleetguard brand, you'll be ok.

RE: Charging (2) 6 volts with 1 auto charger?

Have you considered taking the batteries out and taking them home? At home you could put the charger on every few weeks for a day and all should be good. That's the preferred storage method anyway. As for your previous batteries that were four year old, it is possible they wouldn't hold a charge anyway and boiled over when the automatic charger tried to keep them topped off.

RE: shore power question

As others suggested, get a decent sized extension cord, such as a 10 guage. As enblethen suggested, you could plug into your son's clothes washer circut (when the machine is not in use).

RE: Roadmaster Falcon 5250 towbar

We previously used the Falcon and found disconnecting sometimes difficult. We now use the Blue Ox Aventa II which works well.

RE: Filter for Engine Mounted Air Compressor C8.3L

I wondered about that myself. Thanks Brett.

RE: Newbie to RV

Can't help on that model or manufacturer. As for price, as a rule of thumb, you can figure 80% of the low retail figure in the NADA guide book as a "reasonable value". Also, check for similar rigs at PPL Motorhomes in Texas that sold recently. That firm posts their sold as well as for sale consignment units.

RE: Class A storage compartment rubber seals

Call National Parts for Monaco and give them your Vin. With that they can tell you if they have any replacement gaskets, a place where you can order same, or the name of the manufacturer who supplied them originally.

RE: Quartzite?

Its a Harbour Freight times a thousand, its where Root Farms sells their goods for 30% more then we pay here and people are glad to pay it, its where Paul Evert and Guaranty try to get rid of there left over inventory, its where La Mesa claims their going out of bussiness every year, its a flee market without a cause, its where the average age is 79.8 and going strong, its a place to make new friends and meet old ones, its a place to boondock and feel secure, its a great .... place to be. See ya there. 3708 This has to be the most accurate discription of Quartzsite I've seen, especially La Mesa going out of business every year.

RE: Do U use cruise control with the exhaust brake switch ON?

My exhaust brake switch hasn't been off for over 6 years, and I use the cruise control whenever traffic is light enough. I'm use to this set up and like the exhaust brake's effect in slippery conditions, especially ice and snow. I know using the exhaust brake in slippery conditions is not recommended in the manual, but that's my choice.

RE: Thetford Aqua-Magic IV Toilet

I replaced a Sealand Traveler with a Thetford Aria in 2006, which works similar to the toilet at home. We're happy with our decission. Several friends had the Aria and had problems, possibly due to low voltage due to discharged batteries. They had their toilets replaced with different models. Also, it appears Thetford no longer carries the Aria or the Aria II. They may sell a new, improved model or a redesigned model. If they do, I'd recommend it.

RE: Heater Under the Bed?

We have one in our HR Navigator, which is probably identical to the one in your Imperial. It runs off of the hot water from the engine just like the heater in the front of your coach, and the one in your car. You can't "turn it off" as such, but you can turn the fan on and off, which accomplishes almost the same thing. Our fan switch is on the overhead over the driver's seat and labeled Aux Heater. Our engine coolant also heats our domestic water in the hot water tank, so I wouldn't want to turn it off if I did find a shut off valve.

RE: Inverter Question

In six years, I've never turned mine off. I'm normally connected to shore power at home or while at a rally or in Yuma for the winter. When boondocking, I run the generator twice a day to keep the house batteries charged up.

RE: Definition of "under inflated".

Enblethen has it right. Use the actual weight of the rig and the manufacturer's guide for that size tire.

RE: Blue Ox Aventa tow bar

We use the Aventa II as well. I would be hard pressed to justify replacing it since it works well and was well designed and built.
