RE: Portable/removable Stove Top

You might try RV salvage companies. Another source might be to buy a complete used popup and strip it for a lot of things usable in your build. Charger, ref., water tank, pump, sink, heater, cushions, curtains, table, cabinets, etc.

RE: Left-over Hot Cereal Bread

I believe it was 'Bob's Red Mill' in the Hot Cereal section at stores.

Late Arrival in RGV?

I won't be able to go to RGV until March or April. Will RV sites be opening up yet?

Left-over Hot Cereal Bread

Getting ready to bake some bread, I noticed the left-over 7 grain cereal. After getting the yeast working, I added the cereal with the remaining flour. Made a very good bread with texture

RE: Grilled Cheese Sandwich

Healthier? Toast my bread, put cheese, any kind, between two slices of toast, and nuke to melt cheese.

RE: Pickled Eggs

Add sausage. Try adding 3" long cooked Polish Sausage chunks. After cooking, squeeze out extra fat, then add to pickle juice. An egg, a sausage, and a few saltines make a great snack.

RE: family giving cold shoulder for rving

I am in a reverse roll situation. I have been a fulltime caregiver for my wife for the past 10 years. She is basically now quadraplegic from a severe case of MS. After about 8 years of waiting for family members to ask if they could come and care for my wife so I could get away for a week, I decided to take matters in to my own hands. I bought a toyhauler trailer that I could drive my wife's wheelchair into and we hit the road. I have a hydraulic lift to lift my wife from her chair and into her bed and vice-versa. I refused to have our life's situation confine us to our stick house for the rest of our lives. To let our lives just "waste away" at home was not an option. We traveled 7 months in 2008 and will complete 10 months of being on the road this year. Currently we are in Florida after traveling the entire east coast and plan to return home to northern California on March 11, 2010. And to our relatives who are jealous or envious of our travels, I say too bad and thanks for no help at all. I Tip My Hat to you Sir. Your wife is fortunate to have you.

RE: family giving cold shoulder for rving

What's to be gained if you stay where you live? If you stay in contact, the difference in flight times from major cities is minimal. When needed, long distances can be driven in less than a day. If you were to ignor,or not stay in contact with family, then guilt might be valid. I'd go, but utilize the internet and phones to stay connected. If I don't tell people I'm away from home, my Emails don't reflect where they are sent from.

RE: Steel Cut Oats in a Crockpot

You might try 7 grain or 8 grain cereal. I like it better than steel cut oats.

RE: Traveling on Christmas day

Remember that working Christmas can be very hard on people. especially the ones 1000s of miles from home. Be the Smile and pleasant word they need. If I was traveling on Christmas, I'd have a bunch of indivually wrapped Christmas cookies and candy to hand out. Working in casinos, and being single, I worked most Christmas's. I received more cookies and candy than I could eat

RE: A moment of brilliance - No 110V inside

Thanks for the laugh. It could have been worse. Make a big scene at the CG office. A friend did that. Called out a repairman. Another friend did that. Cussed out the Honda generator. I didn't plug TT into it

RE: Water tank plumbing leaks ... how to replace?

Looking at the photos, it appears that repairs have already been done before. I'd guess that the wrong cement was used. It appears there is a flex coupling that you can replace, and an elbow. If not replacing the valve, then couplings and new pipe should do. Also look at using piping suitable for potable water for the water line.

RE: Water tank plumbing leaks ... how to replace?

Chances are, the pipe cracked due to flexing. You'll need to address that in your repair. The pipe should have specs printed on them. The pipe is fairly cheap, so replace as much as you can. I'd cut the pipe with a hacksaw, in a spot where you have work room, away from end joints. You need a stub of pipe to attach to. Take a section, with markings, of each pipe with you to the store. Buy the appropriate pipe, slip couplings, primer, and cement. Measure twice, then cut your pipe. Dry fit everything together, marking pipe, so you allow the cut ends of pipe to be centered in coupling. Clean all pipe ends of cutting burrs. Prime and cement per directions on containers. Be aware of set times of cement. I'd then install supports on pipe to reduce flex. Plumber's strap, attached to frame, and chunks of weather stripping should work.

RE: We have a new trailere

Concratulations on your new trailer. Be conservative on how you stock it. It's very easy to overspend and/or overload. I'd suggest making lists now, and then seeing what you can eliminate. Don't carry way more than you need. If you start with just the basics, you can add as you find a real need. Do a few searches on this site for lists. There's some good advice. Make your first outings close to home, even the driveway. PM me if like, Phil

RE: new to generators and have a question

I bought my Honda 2000ie from a Honda dealer. I was able to negotiate the price a little. But, the dealer did the setup and showed me a few things, like maintenance and jet change. He also threw in a cover and DC charger cables. If, I have a problem, which I doubt, I've got the dealer to go to. I feel that the savings of NP or NF senior discount prices verses a FHU campground will pay for the generator quickly. Plus, the Dry sites are better, for me.

RE: 2010 vacation ideas

You might like the area around Rocky Mountain NP. There are several National forests within a 100 mile radius. Although you could find plenty to do closer to the park. Since most campgrounds are Dry, I'd suggest having a generator to extend your stay.

RE: Dual Propane Tank Question

Since the unit is 20 years old, I'd be suspect of bad valve. I'd contact a LP shop about a complete preassure test of system, and replacement of valve, regulator and rubber hoses.

RE: potable water

I like to have some water onboard during travel. For restroom and hand washing. I drain when I get home, and partially fill before I leave. I believe water weighs about 7 pounds per gallon, so my 32 gal. tank full would be an extra 200 pounds, a small percentage of total weight. Doubt if it would effect much.

RE: "You can't stay here, your trailer is too old."

Had this experience at Sunflower RV Resort in Surprise, AZ. No older than 10 yrs. Also when I asked if they allowed campfires the lady responded in her best hottie tottie voice, "No, we are a RV Resort not a campground." The staff and the other residents except for us transients exhibited this same uppity attitude. I stayed at Sunflower for a week in April. I thought the staff and long term residents were friendly. I was invited to join in on various activities. I'd go back.

RE: Blind Robins in SW Florida

Oh Boy, memories of Bar Food in the Midwest. Blind Robins, pickled hard boiled eggs, and pickled sausage. Of course, the After effects could be Anti Social.
