RE: TV Big problems need some help

...smogging and legality of it.You are kidding right? 1972 School buses are still driving around and there are thousands of unsmogged vehicles driving around all over the place. 3rd world countries don't even have smog laws and all you want to do is delete your cat and muffler? You pay your taxes and DMV fees - GO FOR IT!

That is a beautiful picture. No Cat on a diesel, I love it. That is the way they should have rolled off the factory line.
Mmkay, you're a police officer, right? And you're counseling this guy to essentially break the law?
Kewl, can I use you as a reference too?

He's in Cali, it's never to late for a buy back!!! As for the mods, Ford has to prove they are the cause of failure! Which they can't!!!
I've read that the tuners leave a foot print, is that true?

RE: TV Big problems need some help

Your lucky that FMC didn't void your warranty, and I'm assuming that's the case here?
If your truck is paid off, then I'd keep it for awhile until all the anti-pollution devises have been sorted out with the new generation trucks
Plus your registration and insurance for a 450, or any other new truck, will be significantly higher then what you have know.

RE: TV Big problems need some help

http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/appndxa/hlthsaf/hs44011.htm
I read a similar article from DMW earlier in the year, but after a quick search on the DMV website, this is the only article that came up.
I have an 03 F250 FX4 with 87k miles on a bone stock six-oh that I purchased new.
After the last mandatory 06E17 recall, which disables the EPB sensor, the dealer discovered that the turbo VGT was stuck in the wide open position and a hairline crack on the side of the IC, which according to the tech, had evidently been in this condition for almost two years based on the prior mandatory recall, but I didn't noticed any drivalbility problems, especially while towing.
The dealer replaced the Turbo and IC and I recieved my truck on the same day.
I now use the truck mainly for towing, which is a 2010 33AKS Atitude FX 5ver and the more I throw at it the more it will tow.
My warranty is long gone, and knock on wood it'll keep running strong for another couple of years, or whenever all the smog devises have been sorted out on the new trucks.
IMHO if you don't chip or tune the six-oh it should last for a long time, but if you play be prepared to pay.

RE: Superglide hitch failure

I just took the roller out and it was tight to the point were I had to used an air impact wrench.
It's not the type that mapguy posted; it's what I believe to be a ball bearing type.
I'll, nevertheless, call Pullrite tomorrow a.m. and get a replacement, as well as a new lock jaw assembly, and torque spec's.
Other than that the rails look straight with only minor scratched, and I didn't see and signs of stress on the entire frame.
I have an older 16K so that may explain the differnt roller type.

RE: Superglide hitch failure

I'm going to go through my entire super-glide to check for signs of any of these potential problems, and as a PM I'm going to change the roller.
Does anyone have a link for parts?? I haven't found one in my neck of the woods, which is Ventura, Ca.

RE: Superglide hitch failure

The manual states that when you hitch the TV, relative the the pin box, the angle of the TV should not exceed 16 degrees.
I believe that if you do exceed the 16 degrees that it is not possible to fully lock the locking mechanism because the hitch is in one of the forward travel position slots and not up against the rear stop.

RE: Superglide hitch failure

The roller looks worn and rusted out, which is unnerving to see, and I believe that they're not field serviceable????
It also looks IMO that the hitch is not resting over the axles in the home position?, but perhaps it's the angle of the picture.
Judging by the trail of grease, the plate did extend towards the 90 degree point of travel, which if that were the case the procedure is to un-hitch and move the TV toward the 16 degree position to re-hitch.
I live in a cul-de-sac, which requires me to make some angle maneuvers to park my 33' TH in the side yard, but judging by the grease trail, I've never had it pass beyond ~45 degrees.
Pls keep us posted on Pullrite's responds to this issue.

RE: Superglide hitch failure

Correct, this happened while pulling. He did do a tight maneuver by making a U-turn in a truck stop but he never backed up.
The deformation of both the reciever plate & capture plate, as well as the remains of the lock jaw that embeded itself to the pin indicates IMO that the pin was high sided and did not fully close the lock jaw, which can give a false indication of a fully locked position.
But as Mapguy stated, the condition of the base rails and roller cam arm assembly can't be dicern by the illustrations

RE: Superglide hitch failure

I painted a line on the locking ring to visually confirm that it did wrap completely around the pin, snip....
That is a good idea. The yellow paint pen would work great and is easy. Going to do this tonight ....
Really believe you should rethink the heavy grease on way tubes in your environment. Slip Plate is stocked at Grainger -just need to give them a company name and pay sales tax to bypass the "no sales to consumers".
Map Guy
Slip Plate? is there a part number?
thanks

RE: Superglide hitch failure

I always ride up on the pin box when backing up to avoid the pin from high siding, which can result in false locking or binding of the lock ring mechanism.

RE: Superglide hitch failure

I painted a line on the locking ring to visually confirm that it did wrap completely around the pin, and I keep the rails clean and well greased to make sure that it doesn't bind, especially on the inner rail surfaces.
The manual I have states to use light oil (WD40) on the locking mechanism and heavy duty grease on the rails, which I use Mobil 1 synthetic grease that I clean and re-grease before each trip.

RE: 2009 Attitude- Cracks in front fiberglass cap

I have a 2010 33FX, but not the Armour package, without any cracks on the gelcoat. Does Eclipse paint over the gelcoat on the Armour package? if so, that would explain the cracks and the response you recieved from Eclipse. I've painted boats using automotive paints and the preparation of the gelcoat and using high quality paints, like Imron, is the key.

RE: Used 2000 week end warrior

We had a 03 2200FB Wide Body for 3.5 years, and got rid of it for major structural frame issues. Check the cross beams and main beams for poor welding, which in our case sheared off at the beam that hold the two water tanks and needed to be re-welded several times and at several points.
Also, check for water damage on the front window and all outside door compartments, especially the ones directly below the rain gutters which I had to install additional weather stripping to prevent further water damage.
Check the floor for warping, especially around the wheel wells. Ours were seperating from the floor and were about to come apart from the wall.
Leaks in the sink around the trap. The steps were welded to the main frame and were flexing as a result of the shearing off the cross beams, and the tongue was starting to flex under load.
We used it to haul 2-dirt bike and 2-quads and always loosened the weight distribution bars whenever we went off-road.
Proceed with caution before making a purchase IMO.

RE: Charging System Issues

5.9v is low for a 6v golf cart battery; it should be around ~6.3V
What is the voltage that you measure when you are plugged in to shore power?? It should be around ~13+ volts, which means that your converter is working.
Exactly, 5.9 is low and 11.whatever is a complete discharge! Your batteries should sit between 12.1 and 12.7, 12.1 being a complete discharge. When your batteries go below this point you have to remember that it takes several days of "trickle charge" to get them back. When I first purchased my 6v batts I was disappointed until someone told me to fill them to the top with water and charge them for 3 days.
Your other option is a partially cracked fuse somewhere near the front of your frame in the corner. I had this happen to me and everything worked, just not very well. The fuse was limiting the amount of voltage allowed through the system.
Hummm... or even a bad 12v cut off switch for that matter.

RE: Trailer Hitches? Which one?

I too just recently solicit the opinions from the folks on here and decided to purchase a super-glide for our new 2010 33' Attitude FX with my short bed PSD. The only part about owning a super-glide is the maintenace that is required to ensure long life, which only takes a few minutes but is especially essential when camping in the desert after a wind storm to remove the debris and re-grease the rails. I store my TH in the side yard that I have to maneuver from a culdesac, but even for just all around driving, especially when turning in to a two lane road, the super-glide is worth the investment.
