RE: What is it?

Sure looks to me like a bowfishing set up. Notice the large halogen spotlights under the platform. Guys use them here in Minnesota to bow-fish for Carp. At night the fish tend to move to shallow water. Standing up on that front platform with the lights shining into the water makes them much easier to spot and gives you a good angle to get off a shot.
Never seen one with a fan motor on it though, my guess is it would be used in very shallow or weed choked water where the outboard would not work.

RE: New to TC; Is my camper to heavy for the truck?

As others have suggested, start by playing around with the airbag pressures. I know with my Dodge, airbag pressures above 70 psi actually make the handling worse. Id also recommend the bump stop extensions for your overload springs. They're fairly cheap and easy to install. A rear sway bar is also a good suggestion.
I carry a 4600 pound camper on my 04 Dodge dually. With 2.5" bump stop extensions for the overloads and 60 psi in the airbags its a VERY stable ride. And FWIW, Im only over the 12000 pound GVWR by a few hundred pounds, and Im WAY under the massive 9350 pound rear axle rating.
You dont need another truck. Play with the airbag pressures and add a sway bar or some bump stop extensions and I bet you'll be just fine.

RE: Demand Better from TC Manufacturers

I couldnt agree more, Wrangler.
With sticker prices pushing well north of $40K on the nicer models, These campers shouldnt be sagging, rotting, and delaminating after a few short years like many are now doing. Its one thing to see a 10 year old neglected camper fall apart, but when you see a 5 year old well maintained camper with a sagging slideout and rotted skirts, its a shame.
Better materials and MUCH better sealing Tecniques are badly needed.

RE: generator ?

Another option if your still considering a portable generator is to get a high efficient A/C unit. Ours only draws 10 amps IIRC. A single 2000 Honda runs it with power to spare. Its a lot cheaper than buying 2 generators and a parallel kit. Also much easier than lugging 2 gensets around.

RE: Lance 1161 Fire...

Is this Lance worth fixing??? Slide works, generator works...some of the cabinets need trim work....Needs new freezer door.....What do you guys think?
Lance 1161 fire
Judging by the pictures, I think your looking at more than a new freezer door and some trimwork on the cabinets. Its probably over what I would recommend the average do-it-yourselfer try to attempt, but if your carpentry skills are up to the task and the price is right, it could be a good way to work your way into a camper.

RE: Fleetwood Caribou problem(s)

Depending on the location of the slide you might be able to reinforce the sag in the slide out from the outside. A piece of angle iron lag bolted back into the frame would probably work. Paint it the same color of the camper and you'd hardly notice its there. Might be easier then removing the slide or tearing the wall apart.

RE: NO Urea for Cummins (sort of)

So this stuff freezes at 11 degrees. How nice, we have 6 months out of the year when temps dip below 11 degrees. I can only imagine the fun you'll have when its -40.
Fords V10 looks better and better every year.

RE: Tow-Haul question

It will depend greatly on what truck you have. On some vehicles it just raises the shifting RPM's and firms up the shifts a bit. On others like my Dodge, it will lock out overdrive so the highest gear available is 3rd. In my case, unless its hunting between gears(rarely happens unless Im in mountains), or if Im pulling some very heavy loads, I dont use tow/haul so I can take advantage of overdrive.

RE: And The MPG Winner Is?

With the rig in my signature I get 13-14 (hand calculated) loaded with the camper if I keep the speed around 60 MPH. The rare times I drive it unloaded I get around 20 when running empty on the highway.

RE: wind noise with camper on

I had some wind noise on the upper part of the doors on my Dodge when driving in windy conditions. I went to the hardware store and purchased a roll of 1/2 or 3/4 inch wide adhesive weatherstriping and installed it around the top inside of the door, so when it shuts it doubles over the factory weatherstriping thats on the jamb.
Been working good for over 3 years now....Do you have a picture you dont mind sharing?
Unfortunatly I dont have pictures. My wife just recently forced me into the digital age by picking up a digital camera. One of my projects in the coming weeks is to figure out how to use it and eventually, get photo's up on the web.

Wow, nicely done! Thanks for posting the photos.
Was the front window the cause of the leak?

RE: What do you do with your truck batteries?

Battery Tender
This is what I use also. I rotate it every week or so between the truck, camper, and my lawn mower batterys.

RE: Arctic Fox 2009 Brochure

I like the 992. One thing thats usually missing in that sized dry bath camper is a decent sized storage closet on the main level. Looks like they've come up with a solution.

RE: 2010 Heavy Duty Ram's debut this week

If the 1/2 tons are any indication, the HD line up should be a good one. It'll be nice to finally see a Crew Cab offered in an 8' bed also.

RE: The "Burb"s hitch receiver

A good aftermarket hitch can be purchased for $150 and any shop should be able to install one in under an hour. So don't let the factory hitch problems steer you away from the vehicle if you like it. Just budget in another $200-$300 to have a good hitch installed.

RE: Trailer Court! U B da Judge!

You have an 18" extension combined with what looks like about another 12". I don't know... I think your pushing it with a stock reciever. For peace of mind, I think I'd look into a Reese Titan/Tow Beast. Its a cheaper alternative to Torklifts Superhitch (albiet not as strong) but would be more than up to the task your asking.

Dont waste more time/money on a 1 ton SRW, you'll just end up in the same boat you're in now.
My thoughts exactly.

RE: It's the "not so smart wife" asking the question

I run mine all night when temps get close to zero to run an electric blanket and keep the furnace from running down the batterys. Mine usually runs 12-16 hours on a tank if you keep it in the low idle mode.
O.k. On edit, after re-reading your post I see your running an electric space heater. You wont get nearly the run time as I do if your trying to heat the camper with electric heat.

RE: LANCE NOSE Front window

Thats a great idea PJ.
We camp late into the fall and temps often can get close to zero at night. I always fight condensation and cold drafts from that front window. The thought of removing it totally has crossed my mind several times, but I like your idea of the insulated cover. We have them for the skylights and roof vents and they work great.
Might have to try it.
