RE: HDT Tow Vehicle question. Commercial or not?

Even a hobby will get you dinged as commercial, singled or not.Ask on some of the race car forums, stickers, ribbons, trophies will get you ticketed as 'in commerce' then its uo to you to prove you are not . A lot of info over on the escapees resource guide,if you dance on the edge it could get all of us on the 'radar' where we dont want to be. BTDT. 20 years ago when I first started 4x4 truck pulling I had a MODOT officer tell me I needed a USDOT# on my pickup truck. When I explained it was just a hobby he said it didn't matter. I then approached a USDOT officer and he said I only needed the USDOT registration if I was being paid a guaranteed pay out. You are behind the commercial enterprise line if the only pay out you are receiving is prize money, and you are not guaranteed ahead of time to a payout. It sounds like you ran into an idiot cop. Where did you find a "USDOT officer"? I've never heard of such a position.

RE: HDT Tow Vehicle question. Commercial or not?

If you single your truck and don't use it for commercial then none of the commercial regulations apply. However, if you leave it a tandem you will have to do the IFTA, and apportioned license if you go out of your home state with the truck even if non commercial. Where did you come up with that? IFTA faq That entire FAQ section is for "Motor Carriers", which if you remain private i.e. NOT FOR HIRE, you would not be subject to. Based on your logic, a Class A with a tag axle would need an IFTA sticker. That's simply not the case.

Ford F-550, V10 and 5.38 gears. That, or convert a HDT. That's a brilliant idea! I'm sure the 3 mpg and 5k RPM at 60 mph would make for a pleasant ride.:R

RE: identifying a tuned used diesel TV

Take it to GM for some warranty work! They will let you know if there has been some tuning goin on. lol Very valid point - even after the tuners have been removed and stripped of the performance parts the fact the calibration has been messed with leaves a 'fingerprint' in the code (even when returned to stock) that only the dealership technicans can see... Then when you go for warranty - Denied! What warranty is remaining on a 2006 model Duramax?

RE: identifying a tuned used diesel TV

But if you ask the seller that direct question and they lied about it, then you have a cause to charge them with fraud. Never going to happen. "You" aren't going to charge anyone with a crime, and good luck convincing a DA to file a criminal complaint. I am beginning to get sensitive on this issue. Why?

RE: 2014 Voltage?

quartz countertops That's a welcome improvement. The old style countertops would scratch with a well placed kleenex.

RE: Towing Cyclone 4100 King

Anyone know how to tell how much my truck is over its weight? Sticker on door: GAWR Front: 5500 GAWR Rear: 6010 GVWR: 9600 Other sticker: The combined weight of occupants and cargo should never exceed 2109 The towing chart for my truck GVWR=9600 payload=2230 base weight 7372 base front 4583 base rear = 2789 GCWR= 17000 - 22000 I'm not sure the Axle ratio Max Trail = 9500 - 14500 The Cyclone GVWR 18000 You're way over the trucks weight ratings on a completely empty 4100. The 4100 I looked at weighed 14,800 empty! You would be over GVWR, GAWR, GCWR, tire load ratings, wheel load ratings, etc. This is not a safe towing combination.

Hey that video helped get rid of one member here a few months ago! Who was banned? Was it the FNG that had some 25(ish) posts per day?

RE: Dutchmen Voltage

I am taking the Voltage to Camp World in LV. They have an excellent shop. Will they fix the problems with it? Damn sure better. I met the owner of General RV while in Chicago, and he said don't worry. He stood behind my RV. (Nice guy). It is my hope that all issues are dealt with, and it will be happy trails from then on. I have dealt with Camp World in LV before, and they were great. I will post a follow-up. I dealt with Camping World, Las Vegas with my Voltage. They treated me well but called me 3 weeks after my dropoff for an update that they stated would take 2 days. It also took 6 months to get all the parts I needed for my repairs. I hope your experience is better.

RE: Dutchmen Voltage

Interesting difference between these Voltages and mine. The air conditioning ducts on mine run on BOTH sides all the way from the front A/C to the garage. Both A/C's blow into both ducts. These units don't connect the ducts to the front A/C (hole) and only run one one side front and the other side back. These are smaller units I believe - only 2 axles. Mine are the same way. I think the pictured units are the lower end "V-Series" line which may not have the same features as the normal voltage line. You may notice the "V Series" logo near the front bedroom window. You would be correct, that was a V Series production run.

RE: Dutchmen Voltage

Here are some of the pics of the Voltage factory. The quality of the pics is sub par, but you should get the idea of the build process. It's a very worthwhile investment in time to take tours of these factories. After the tour(s) it will become very evident that a trouble free RV is simply a matter of luck. The respective manufacturers attempt a balance of QC along with optomizing production schedules. As difficult as it may be to admit, we are collectively responsible for this balance. http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a132/747400/Voltage/image_zpsd52009fb.jpg width=640 http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a132/747400/Voltage/image_zpsf15b9e2b.jpg width=640 http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a132/747400/Voltage/image_zps3f69754c.jpg width=640 http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a132/747400/Voltage/image_zps2bb3923b.jpg width=640 http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a132/747400/Voltage/image_zps3dc88804.jpg width=640 http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a132/747400/Voltage/image_zps076242e3.jpg width=640 http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a132/747400/Voltage/image_zps92a0b8d2.jpg width=640 http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a132/747400/Voltage/image_zpsebc66efb.jpg width=640 http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a132/747400/Voltage/image_zps83352918.jpg width=640 http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a132/747400/Voltage/image_zpsd243ed72.jpg width=640 Moderators Edit: Adjusted photo width to 640 pixels per the forum guidelines. RE: 2013 Ram 3500 "Beast"

Can you buy the mega cab 3500 dually with an 8' bed? What would the tow rating for a fifth wheel be with that config and 3.73 gears? with 4.10 gears? You cannot buy a Mega Cab longbed.

RE: Dutchmen Voltage

I think if the manufacturers offered, as an option, a $250 or $500 Platnum Quality Control program, where after the unit goes through the standard check out procedures, the Platnum program would take the unit through a more thorough inspection and proper correction of manufacturing issues. I would buy such a program to help ensure that there were no problems upon delivery. It should be done properly to begin with, but it just isn't. Voltage produces 8 units a day. They have the build process staged to the minute, literally. There is no way, unfortunately, they would slow down production for further QC checks. Additionally, if defects were found there is no physical means to pull that unit offline for repairs that would not halt the other units being produced. The factory is completely full, so much it's difficult to walk around much less pull a TH out of the way. I'll see if i can post some pics of the factory.

RE: Is the aisin trans good enough?

lol at this thread. so many asian experts who don't own 4500 and higher rams. How does one become an Asian expert? I've spent some time in China, does that count?

RE: Dutchmen Voltage

I had experienced numbers 1,2,8,14, and 27 as well. A few significant others resulted in the "sale" of my Voltage.

RE: Separate garage or not?

My F150 with ecoboost and max tow (with air bags) would tow it fine, just being that long would take some getting use too. My wife has a '12 Ecoboost and no way in hell would I tow a 34' toy hauler with it. Getting "use too" towing that large of a toy hauler with an F150 would be like getting "use too" herpes.

RE: Dutchmen Voltage

If you tour the respective factories (I did), it will become very clear that these RV's are not built by Amish craftsmen concerned with quality. The defects that are allowed to pass are amazing. With that said, my dealings with Voltage management were positive, your mileage may vary.
