RE: In Quartzsite will there be....

Getting it done in Quartzsite may not be the best idea. Sales tax there is at least 9.1%. I thought it was above 10% but that was the best info I found on a search. Still pricey.

RE: driver's license

According to http://www.aamva.org/knowledgecenter/driver/compacts, the following states are not members of DLC (Driver's License Compact):
Georgia, Massachusetts, Michigan, Tennessee, and Wisconsin
The following states are not members of NRVC (NonResident Violator Compact):
Alaska, California, Michigan, Montana, Oregon, and Wisconsin.
I do not know how up-to-date that site is.True, but these compacts have nothing to do with an individual who is properly licensed in his own state driving his non-commercial RV in other states under his home state's license.
Just be aware that this does NOT allow you to drive an RV in a state that is not your home state if the RV violates the foreign state's laws for things such as length, weight, running double, etc.. ie: I can pull an unlicensed farm trailer legally in Delaware, but cannot pull it into MD, VA, NJ, or PA.

I don't know about it removing "stuff" through the feet, but I bet it does a great job removing money from the pocket.

RE: Dump into residential septic system?

Been dumping into a home system for years. We even have a 125' line put in from the sewer line to the driveway so I don't have to mess with the rig on soft ground. Works great. We use NOTHING in RV the tanks.

RE: Progressive Industries EMS

Cool folks to work with. I've had an occasional glitch here and there and if you don't understand what you're seeing, a call to them and they set you right.
About 3 months ago we had a tree go down on a high line about 3 miles from the house. Had about 185 volts on the 120v line for a few hours. Since we keep the RV plugged in, the Progressive dropped the RV off and I was able to shut down the rest of the farm for a few hours before I did some real damage. Power company finally got it straight after I reported the problem.
Great equipment, great company, great people. What else could you ask?

RE: Help with 12 speed Meritor Trany And Mercedes 450Hp motor

Sounds like a pullin' fool. Some of the biggest trucks on the road pulling overweight loads of 150-200,000 pounds only have 550HP engines. That many forward speeds allows the engine to maintain speed and thereby torque, so it won't have any lugging problems. How heavy do you expect this thing to be, anyway? I used to have an International straight truck with a 5 speed trans and 2 speed rear (10 fwd speeds total). It had a 245HP gas engine and pulled 38,000lbs of grain without a problem.

RE: 30 amp RV and 50 amp from the post

It'll be fine. You can also purchase an adapter from Walmart or Camping World. We carry a number of adapters so we can always hook into whatever connection we find. Your RV will not let you pull more than 30A regardless of what's offered.

RE: nesting cookware

A few years ago DW picked up a really good stainless set of nesting cook ware at Quartzsite. A bit pricey, but I.m glad she got it. Only issue we've had is an occasional rattle and a little non-skid for shelves takes care of that.

RE: rv park permanebt anchor procedures

Unless your rig has tie down strips installed at manufacture, tying the frame or chassis is just fooling yourself. The tie down straps the manufacturer puts on go all the way over the unit, usually at the more substantial frames. Tying the frame will insure you have a frame present after the blow. Not much else, just the frame.

RE: Quartzsite camping

Unless you are in the LTVA, there is no cost. Just pull off and set up. Some groups get a little possessive of "their" part of the desert, so if it looks like an organized group, move down a few hundred feet. In the areas where BLM does not want people, there will be signs, but they may be small or knocked over, so keep an eye open.

RE: fishing seasons in Alaska

Some additional info. Pinks generally run in Valdez harbor starting about July 4th. They can be fished from the shore at Allison Point. Silvers generally enter the harbor around the 2nd week in August and will stay through the 1st of September. Although a few can be fished from the city dock, just about all are taken trolling from downriggers or using pink lady's from 20-90' deep. We fish them from an inflatable 14' boat. We have also taken feeder kings off Ketchikan in early June trolling very deep. Halibut can generally be taken from charter boats throughout the summer, but some go 100 or more miles out. Earlier in the season is generally better. 3-4 hour tough ride each way. We like Ninilchik for Buts as the run is only about 20 minutes from launch, fish are good size and they are not cattle boats like you see in Homer.

RE: Worst/most dangerous design flaw is _______

A super deluxe color rear view camera that cannot even SEE the toad on a dark road without street lights, let alone see what it is doing back there. They don't have the IR LED's back there to light the tow. I had to purchase an IR flood light to illuminate the toad.
Not something I would usually check when buying a rig, but I will from now on. High end rig,....Yep, uh huh.

RE: Wireless printer with WIFI

A lot of good info here, especially on the printers with the built in WIFI. Just beware that when trying to match a print server with a printer, you need to be sure they work together. I have a mid/high end HP photo printer that I tried to get to work with a HP Print server and it was a no-go. Took about 3 calls to HP before they would even admit that they wouldn't work together. HP won't work with HP....go figure. On the road we use a small Canon with a Bluetooth connection.

RE: Folding up a damp PUP

If there's a chance you might have to put it away wet you might think about bringing a couple of plastic sheets the size of the beds. Put them between the canvas and the beds so you won't have to sleep on damp beds. We've used them when winter camping too as the canvas can get damp due to breath exhaled, water used inside and cooking.

RE: Hwy 93 from Kingman AZ to Las Vegas

Last spring they were starting on construction on 93 east of the dam. We had intermittent closings as they worked to widen and improve the road so as to give better access when the bridge over the dam is opened. Until the bridge is opened there WILL be a complete vehicle inspection by TSA before you can drive the rig across the dam. Some are extensive, and some easy, but you will be required to at least open all compartments. The route itself is great and an easy drive except for the above.

RE: OK to use plumping tape on LP plumping threads?

The yellow tape is now "Not code". There is now a "code" propane specific paste.
Another example of what might be the right thing to do today may not be the right thing tomorrow.
The right thing to do is a moving target (-:

John
Who cares? Codes are made for your safety. It's wise to pay attention to all codes. JMHO!Sorry, not even close.
Although almost all codes are promoted as "SAFETY" issues a vast amount of them are really politically or protectionist motivated. Furthermore, the permitting and inspection programs typically associated with these are solely established as indirect taxation and revenue generators for the governing body, having little to do with health and safety issues. Inspectors in many cases are barely able to read the codes, let alone properly evaluate, interpret or understand them.
The NFPA codes are a somewhat different issue as they are driven by consensus and are fully peer reviewed before they are established and promulgated. They do not have the force of law, however, unless they have been incorporated either in whole or in part into some statute, be it local, county, state or national.
Now that I know the source I will go to the NFPA and get some info on why the use of this tape is no longer accepted.
I was a registered safety engineer for over 30 years, so I'm not spouting unsupported allegations.

RE: Looking for Wireless Indoor Outdoor Thermometer

Camping World also sells the LaCrosse unit. Works fine. The LaCrosse and the Oregon Scientific look identical to me -- maybe just different labels? Yes, the same. I've even seen La Crosse units at Wal Mart on occasion. Some are house branded and others La Crosse branded, but looking at the back tells that La Crosse makes them.

RE: Please clear up Kindle question

Kindle is in the process of downloading a software change that will allow you to save and view .PDF files on the machine. All that is necessary is that the wireless function is activated and the machine is allowed to go to sleep mode. No charge, no option, it is automatic. DW just got the email notification that it was coming, and the machine is downloading it now. About 3-4 minutes on a Hughes Net connection.
