RE: Typical answer from a RV sales rep. (Comment)

we're used to not seeing hybrids out here in California.
they are rare animals out here.
i was told by a salesman, that they didn't carry hybrids cause they had popups around for those who were too cheap or couldn't afford a regular TT or bigger. so they only kept them around for those they couldn't upgrade to a more expensive RV.
it was easy to upgrade popup owners to a regular TT because he felt they would be tired of dealing with the canvas and setup.
This is my first post after having purchased our first HTT this past weekend. I’m definitely looking forward to learning from everyone here!
Very well said!!
I find the comment by that salesman slightly insulting to be honest. ;) My wife and I (and our four children 5 and under) spent all day Saturday driving hundreds of miles in search of the perfect "RV" for our family. My wife originally insisted that we get an enclosed TT and we narrowed it down to a few smaller (less expensive) ones from Spree, EVO, and Wildwood. Although my wife and I can technically afford to purchase a Class A motorhome, we don’t want that at this point in our lives. With four small children, our goal is to give our children the same fond memories of camping that my wife and I both had as kids.
When we started looking for the right “RV”, as we do in all major purchases, we asked ourselves what we really needed and what we really needed to spend to get there. Our choice wasn’t about what we can afford, it was about what is prudent and wise monetarily.
Toward the end of the day last Saturday, we had narrowed our choice down to a Wildwood 195BH for $11,500 and an Aerolite 174e for $6K more. The Wildwood was an incredible bargain and we would have been very happy with it, but we ultimately decided on spending a bit more for one major reason: the HTT has room to grow as our kids get bigger. With the Wildwood our kids would fit for now, but down the road we would need to trade up for a larger unit. The HTT sleeps six adults or 4 adults/4 kids comfortably (we can bring a set of grandparents now too!). We decided that the HTT represented better value over the long term even though the upfront cost was significantly higher. Believe it or not, my wife also cited the fact that the HTT had a significantly lower tongue weight as a reason she chose it. :)
As a kid, I went camping with my family maybe 120 times (literally) before I was in junior high school. Some of my more cherished memories are of camping with my parents. My dad would get home sometimes late Friday night and we’d pack up the van and boat for the three hour drive to our favorite lake. I can remember being miserable setting up tents under the cover of dark at 1am in the rain…and I miss every minute of it now. :) I want my kids to experience that, and an HTT with “canvas” sides seems like a pretty good way of going about doing that. It’s not about being cheap or lacking buying power, it’s about being watchful of our goals and knowing how best to achieve them.
Ultimately, I predict that absent an attitude change, that salesman faces many hard years. Those customers he judges now won’t soon forget being treated with contempt. And trust me...people can tell when they are being disregarded. I once heard it said that all customers are valuable and if you treat each of them like they are the most important person (regardless of preconceived notions of their wealth and assets) they will come back to you again and again.
With that rant out of the way, I’m very happy to be on this forum now as an HTT owner in California!

RE: Security while boondocking with hybrid tt

Never had an issue and have stayed at Flying J's often for over night stops. But always keep the bunks in and sleep on the couch for those one nighters. When my nieces travel with us I keep my gun on the counter within reach. And yes I have a permit for it. Most places like Flying J's are very well lit and have RV sections to park in. Never felt unsafe at one.

RE: 2004 Jayco 23b questions

We have an 07 23B (with no current roof issues). Cannot stress how important roof maintenance is! While some delamination *may* be normal, if you don't know for sure what's causing it, I'd be very careful with making that decision.
Likewise mine is 05 and have not had any roof issues. Mine is not a 23B though. But again I clean and maintain it very well. I would not turn down a 05-07. Just check the roof like you would any RV that you would buy. And make sure to keep it clean. Just do not use to strong of cleaners up there.

RE: How much should I sell my htt for?

I would try and sell it outright and ask around 8K for it. The dealer is going to resell it for at least that.

RE: Shower head

Okay - I found it for sale on other websites, but same question about the installation. I'm new to all of this and need to find out if I have to hire someone to help.
No you don't need anyone to help. Just make sure that you have a roll of white plumbers tape and a plumbing wrench and follow the instructions. If you get stuck, try YouTube for videos on basic plumbing or maybe Oxygenics has a series of product videos online. If you get really stuck, ask one of the neighborhood young men (or a friendly neighbor) for some advice.
If you are in a RV Park, you'll probably find someone who will gladly help a fellow RV'er (buy them a beer and pay it forward!)
If I can do it, you can do it!
WoodGlue
My Oxygenics even came with some white plumbers tape. I did not need it for my type of install but its nice that they include it. Only took me about 15 minutes to install it.

RE: Shower head

Ordered a oxygenics shower head today. They had it on sale at Campingworld and its the newer one with the push button on/off.
Thanks everyone for the feedback!
Sure sure, brag that you got the new one! LOL! I am going to buy another newer model and replace my already new Oxygenics with the push button kind!
WoodGlue
Kinda like computers you buy one today and tomorrow its out dated. lol, The box showed up yesterday and I installed it last night. To bad you can not just buy the push button piece. It just goes on the bottom of the shower head and then you connect the hose. I have not tried it yet as I am still in winter but we are heading south next week so I will get to try it out. Looks like the push button will work a lot better than the twist turn thing. Also bought one of those soap dispensers that you mount in the shower. And a tooth brush holder that mounts on the wall by the sink. Trying to make better use of the little bathroom space you get in a camper.

RE: Rockwood Roo 21SS - Tow Vehicle

I'll chime in. I've always had Dodge diesels and 28-30' Jayco's. The exception was the 2006 GMC VortecMax with the 6.0 (2wd). They all pulled excellent!. I have since sold my real trucks and traded my Jayco 28BHS in for a 2013 Roo 21SS. I have a 2000 Dodge Dakota parked here at the house and figured it would tow it just fine considering the low weight. WRONG. While it didn't sway etc I just don't have the power to pull the RV on anything but flat ground and out of overdrive. This is with the 4.7 V8. I am going to buy an 03-05 Suburban 2500 with the 8.1L next week ..... ;)
Dodge killed the Dakota and Durango when they went from the 5.2 that is in my 99 Durango to the 4.7. A lot of folks complained about the 4.7 being a dog at towing. Never had an issue with my 5.2 towing my Jayco 25E

RE: Long Line for gas

There is am app for that! lol I have am app on my I-Phone called GasBuddy and you can do a search based on your location and it will give you the current gas prices. Then you can go to the one with the lowest price and not have to drive around looking.

RE: Advise on what to pay for Hybrid

We paid about 12k for our 2005 jayco 25E in 2007. It was two years old and looked like it was never used. We are still happy with it and still use it. 10k does not sound to bad for an 07. I would ask them if thats a rock bottom price. They might be willing to work with you. The thing with campers is you can save money buying used but if you are going to take out a loan then you can get a cheaper payment buying new.

RE: Dumb question about keys...

I like keeping my spare keys in the truck. My truck has the door push button keypad access so no matter how bad I goof up with my keys I can always get to the spares with ease - if I remember the keypad code.
I was trying to get into my truck at WALMART the other day and the keypad was'nt working tried three or four times. Then this big guy walks up and says "Can I help you" actually he said something else that started "What the...."
Turns out I was two rolls over in an identical looking truck haha... This all runs in the family I think - When I was little my dad and I went somewhere in his car. We went back to car after picking up some things and my Dad gets in the back seat and starts reaching for the steering wheel. I didn't dare tell Mom about it haha... (True Story)

RE: Getting my HTT ready

The problem with "de-winterizing" is caused by importer "winterizing." By that I mean filling the water system with RV/Marine antifreeze and leaving it there.
The purpose of winterizing is ridding the water system of anything that will freeze. No more difficult than blowing out the lines with a compressor and opening the low point drains. De-winterizing consists of connecting the camper to a water system. Or simply filling the fresh water tank. Other than tire pressure and lug nuts you're done. What are we talking here, 10 minutes?
-- Chuck
Yes I use the RV antifreeze in the lines but the cold and hot water tanks I just drain. And yes de-winterizing only takes about ten minutes but I like to do it at home before hand so if there are any issues such as a broken water pipe I can fix it easier at home. One time I did not do it at home because it was winter and when I got down south to the camp ground ended up having a broken faucet. Besides that I like to check everything from front to back and top to bottom. If I was only going a few hours up the road I would not be as picky but when traveling on the road for 13 hours I tend to go over everything with a fine tooth come which takes more than ten minutes.

Shower head

What is the best replacement hand held shower head? When I replaced the cheap plastic sink faucet I bought a good one at Lowes. Not sure about the shower head. So many to choose from. I do want one with the flow control so you can almost shut it off. I like this as to save water when using water from your water tank.
Thanks

Getting my HTT ready

Well I am getting my HTT ready for a trip down south to GA at the end of Febuary. Although since I live in PA I can not dewinterize it until the day I am leaving. Or do it once I get down south. But eveything else has to be going over before we leave. But happy to get an early start to my camping season.:)

RE: Campers Invited

Or if you are involved with any other clubs/groups that might camp. For example my wife and I help adopt retired racing Greyhounds and there is a few of us in our Greyhound group that camp together at Greyhound events. I belong to a Chevy Avalanche club that folks camp together. And a snowmobile club that gets together at least one weekend in the summer to camp. Just ideas.
