RE: Fan-Tastic vent fan owners, Must read.

What did he tell you about servicing the unit? I have read other positive remarks about this company. Nice to see that a US company knows the meaning of quality.

RE: Camper Covers

I purchased the custom cover made by ADCO for my LanceMax881. While it works well keeping the camper cool in the summer and dry during the monsoon season here in the Arizona, I found that while it was supposed to be custom made to fit my camper they did not take into account projections that extend from the basic camper, IE: the side awning, the cover over the slide out, the jacks, even the top of the ladder. The result is that it fits too tight over those areas resulting in the cover tearing over those projections. They did supply us with extra material and my wife was able to sew extra material and thereby enlarge the cover. Disappointing for the cost of it from Lance. If it had been made to the proper dimentions I feel it would be a very good cover.

RE: Tire pressures

Since there has always been so much discussion about this subject, I choose to compromise and split the difference between the door indicated pressure and the max of my E rated tires of 80#. I figure no matter which is correct I can't be too far off.

RE: Loading/unloading TC

being level is important. Above statement is very true, but if I am at a site that is not level side to side I have found the following very helpful. I bring the truck bed very close to the front of the camper base. Then rise the camper until the camper base is just adjacent to the truck bed. Adjust the jacks until the camper base is parallel to the truck bed. It seems to help the loading process.

RE: lance 881

As you can see from my signature I have an 05 Lance Max 881. The dealer told me a 1 ton Dodge SRW with Airbags would work fine so I went and purchased an 06 Dodge SRW short bed diesel. BIG MISTAKE. The Lance Max 881 is a very heavy camper and I felt very uncomfortable with it on the Dodge. After doing my homework after the fact, and reading everything I could on this site, I traded it in for a 06 Ford F-350 Dually Diesel. The difference is remarkable. It is much more stable and I feel so much safer with this combination. Don't hesitate to buy a Lance Max 881. It's a great camper and has everything one could want as standard equipment, thus the name. If you want any more info, contact me here and I will give you my cell #

RE: Skiing Fix - Mt Hood

Some friends and I reached the summit in 1963. In those days there was always snowpack on the upper reaches of the mountain. I wonder if the summit sign in book still exists.

RE: TorkLift Customer Service

I mentioned, on this site that I had an issue getting lock covers for my fastguns locks......Pop.....magically Torklift sent me four!!! I failed to mention in my original post that I also asked for one lock cover to replace a damaged one. I received four with the replacement lock.

TorkLift Customer Service

I lost one of my FastGun locks recently (Don't ask me how. You can imagine and it's embarassing.) Since the dealers only sell them in packs of four I emailed TorkLift and asked if I could just buy one from them. Jay, the manager, replied that he just so happens to have one keyed to match my other locks and he sent it to me at no charge. Frankly I think he was just being a good customer service representative. That to me is customer service. We in the Truck Camper world are lucky to have a company like TorkLift to work with. Disclaimer: I have no relationship with TorkLift except as a satisfied consumer.

RE: Excursion to Lake Washington

I can just about see my old house in that first picture. Lived most of my adult life in Seattle area and Whidbey Island. Moved to AZ upon retirement. That water looks so good as it will be 108 today going to 115 on the weekend. Regrets? I have a few. Guess I will get the camper out and head to San Diego area and then head north.

RE: Firewood

Lot of weight on top of a rig! Many locations have restrictions on transporting of wood. With the bugs getting moved from one area to another it will become more strict. Last year while crossing the border from Lake Tahoe, NV to California an inspector confiscated all wood I was transporting. Justified because of all the problems with bark beetles, etc. If I can't find wood at a campground I live without it.

RE: Air Bags

Do Not forget to get "stable loads". You won't need nearly the pressure in air bags with them installed. Would Timbrens be considered a substiture for "Stable Loads"?

RE: truck license plates

Make a color copy of the plate, seal it in plastic and attach it to the camper. One would have to look close to see that it is not the original metal one. If questioned, explain why you have it and show LEO that you have the real plate on the truck. It's a reasonable explanation.

RE: California Trip

If you decide to go I-10 consider dropping down to I-8 through Arizona and California to San Diego. Much less traffic in general and significantly less truck traffic. Nice places to camp and nice towns in and around the Cleveland National Forest. No matter which road you take, driving is BORING through Arizona and eastern California.

RE: No Truck Campers Allowed!

We don't like the type of crowds that the truck camper, tent and popup campers bring. So I asked, you mean real people that aren't stuck up and work for a living. They became very defensive and said if you ever decide to sell you truck camper and buy a real rv than you could purchase a lot. You wouldn't find me dead in one of these parks. You won't find me at one of them either. Damn, that attitude pisses me off. The arrogance of some people esspecially in the economic times we are living in. I am sure many of the folks here could buy and sell many of the fancy RV owners who are struggling to make the payments on their rigs and pay for fuel. Damn, that pisses me off.

RE: Continental Tires?

We are in the middle of looking at tires also. Ford 2005 F-350 DRW. Continental Contratrac P543 LT245 75R17 came on the truck when we bought it. We have had no problems with them at all and they're relatively quiet and handled all the weather and road conditions we've been in - so far. They are all season, E rated 10 ply with 37,000 miles on them. Front outside edge is worn and we need to get the cams adjusted. All tires show wear but aren't worn out. Both tire places we have been say about another 5-6,000 miles on them if not abused. Probably 85% of our driving is on paved roads, rest is on dirt with not a lot of way back country - yet. I have similar tires on my 2006 F-350 Crew Cab (see sig below) except mine are 6 ply tread, 2 ply sidewall for a total of 8 ply. The truck was purchased new. I agree with everything you wrote. I have 25K on them now and I expect to get 40K on them, maybe a little more. The front only are starting to show very slight sidewall stress cracks near the rim. None on the rears.

RE: And The MPG Winner Is?

Check sig for my vehicle and add 4.3 rear axle ratio. Over 5000 miles between AZ, CA, OR and WA and back overall mostly with horse trailer and one horse average 11.5 mpg

RE: No Truck Campers Allowed!

What reason did they give you for disallowing truck campers?

RE: Roadside service

For those of you pulling a horse trailer consider the US Rider Equestrian Plan. In addition to the usual battery assistence, flat tire, fuel oil and water delivery and lock out service, they will tow both the vehicle and/or the horse trailer up to 100 miles. In addition they will make stabling arrangements and up to $1000 for emergency Vet care. To my knowledge no other company will service the horse trailer. Their website is www.usrider.org Disclaimer: Except as a customer, I have no other interest in the company.
