RE: Annual Spring Gathering @Turning Stone, May 17-19th, 2013

What a great gathering of friends!!! It registered 10 on the Richter fellowship meter. The weather ranged from reasonable to great. Translated..... from shorts and tee shirts to long pant and layers. Sherrie, Linda, and Lexie did the casino thing with the usual results from the veterans Linda and Sherrie...The newbie Lexie ventured into the same waters of the casino wins. Our pot luck was amazing!!! Cindy had an adventure that you had to be here to fully appreciate. Moose is a treat! almost a hundred pounds of never in a bad mood let me make your day better mode. Chloe is miss personality... She had a close encounter with the parents of baby geese that went from Chloe chasing to Chloe escaping being nipped in the ass by a belligerent goose. Even if Chloe had made it to the baby Geese they are bigger than her and Chloe was better off to suffer the humiliation of the parent... It should be noted that after Chloe was safety in the lap of her "mother" she switched from oh my god they are going to get me to growling and barking bring it! :B We missed having friends who have joined us in the past. Turning Stone is such a special camping experience that those of us who were there were lamenting our regrets that others could not have shared our experience. We also ventured into the world of totally green wood campfire experience to the totally dry wood campfire experience... The dry wood won the vote!!!:) Our Pot Luck was superb.. It started with let me top your appetizer/snack to gourmet... Bacon wrapped scallops, Stuffed mushrooms, make a meal worthy garden salad, potato salad, macaroni salad, Chicken pot pie, pulled pork, peach pie, amazing chocolate chip squares. Our thanks to Mark and Sherrie who set this up. Sign us up for next year!!!! Kurt... Lot's of wonderful Vegetarian delicious offerings... If you come they will be here. Johnny, Becky and Cindy

RE: Forest River Motorhomes RV One Superstores????

Ok folks lets dial it down a notch... My read is that BOJU 0121 purchased, paid for the motorhome...Arranged for it to be delivered in Buffalo... There were problems with the motorhome... No confidence in the delivery personnel. A concern that an escalation of emotion that could well end up with police intervention. Hindsight would lead to a different strategy... Which gets one to the the motive for posting... If any of you found yourself in this position I am pretty sure you would be ripping mad and emotional... Does not matter that some of you counter they would not get themselves in this position... The question is what is the best strategy that will lead to a satisfactory solution? I am thinking that BOJU 0121 has already figured out that buying in Florida and taking a delayed delivery in Buffalo was not best strategy...Spilled milk.. I am also thinking that it is not unusual for a new motorhome to have problems... A compete dealer, capable service Tech's and an experience owner can negate most of the impact of the problems... This situation is different... So how about focusing our collective experience with some constructive input? My advice is to not vent all of the frustrations back on the manufacturer if they are willing to address the issues... I would hope that the manufacture would be assisting by pointing the owner to a competent dealer that is convenient to where ever the owner lives... Keeping in mind that any dealer who was not the selling dealer that is willing to address the issues...Will not stand for any abuse for perceived shortcomings by any entity other then themselves. Not a great situation but BOJU 0121 has to take some ownership for the situation... No more flaming or shots from the cheap seats JohnnyT Moderator

RE: Camping would sales not honnering there commitmen....Update

Thank you all for educating me on my spelling, grammar. I agree with you about one thing though. I went straight to Marcus email , 10:30 pm Got a replay almost at once 12:15 am He told me he would look into this right away. 8:45 am same morning email from area supervisor said he would get to bottom of this. This fast action blows me away. I can't believe it. Meridian camping world blew me off but Marcus seems to care. A lot of the posts to this thread have been removed.. Frankly those sort of posts were inappropriate and are not welcome. Palladun, Thank you for posting an update...The Camping World Folks are very committed to ensuring that in the event there is a customer perception of a miscue relative to dealing with Camping world that it is reviewed and addressed where warranted. That is the reason that the Dear Marcus portion of our forum was created and staffed. Had I been online I would have moved you thread over to the Dear Marcus section JohnnyT Moderator

RE: First timer.

The first question is does everything work? Roof Air conditioners, furnace, hot water heater, refrigerator? Also dash air and heater? I would also inspect the awning... If you have not driven it I would advise you to do so to get a sense of how stable it feels on the road... If all good then as a previous poster commented check for wear items that may have to be replaced in the next year or two. The mileage on the motorhome seems very low for its age to me... Continuous low usage is better than if the motorhome has set unused for extended periods. If all is in good working order with no reasonable expectation of expensive outlay for replacement or repairs... Without special considerations A realistic value for the motohome is around $13,000, and up to around $2,000 for the Suburu. A new engine in the motorhome and a dinghy in good condition set up for towing qualify as special consideration.. You have to decide how much they are worth to you.. The other extras mentioned in the ad are incentives to purchase but do not in my mind add materially to the valuation. Aside from price, Bounders are a popular make and there are a lot of them of this vintage on the road... I like the floor plane and from what I could see in the pictures it does look well cared for... JohnnyT

RE: Newbie and considering full-timing it. Ack!

We've been considering selling our home and getting one of the newer larger (42 ft) motor homes and heading back east to get closer to the family, But ever since we shared this idea with the clan, we've been deluged with horror stories about the costs associated with keeping these new, bells and whistles laden vehicles running. Given that most of the people we've asked about this are trying to sell us something, we're looking for some unvarnished truth before we make a decision. I would like your thoughts on what ought to be budgeted per year for both routine maintenance as well as fixing things that stop working. Also, if you could give us your experience with just how big a deal these non-routine troubles are and what impact they have on your living existence it would be helpful. For example, if one of the air bags fails and you can't level the coach, I would imagine the novelty of that would wear off pretty quickly. Any other insights that we should be aware of are fair game too. Thanks in advance for whatever help you can offer. It seems to me that you are considering a number of complex decisions... Selling your home, buying a motorhome, deciding on the nature of the motorhome to purchase, assessing the costs of ownership, determining the financial risk, calibrating the RV lifestyle pro's and con's. There is no road map getting to a complete comfort zone... We are not full time but we are on the road 9 months our of a year... We have a high quality motorhome so we have had no house related problems. We have had our share of maintenance expense consistent with our use and mileage. I do most of my own maintenance so the impact and cost has not been problematic. The more complex, the more bells and whistles the more opportunity for problems. Some of these can be bypassed by going with a used unit. Another factor that comes into play is proactive preventative maintenance... The number of problems that can be avoided entirely or significantly mitigated by proactive maintenance is significant... In terms of offering guidance on the impact on non routine maintenance issues...There is just no way to calibrate that for you... Where and when a problem occurs is in play... diagnosing is in play, getting replacement parts is in play and whether or not you would have the tools and ability to remedy the problem is in play... An emergency road side assistance service plan is a requirement... Coachnet or GoodSam both have excellent plans. Extended service contracts are another alternative, which for some are ways mitigate the costs of many significant repair costs...While expensive with stringent compliance requirements and exclusions, for some they have saved significant expenses. I am thinking that you need to prioritize your decision process then decide what the best strategy is for you... If getting back east is your priority what is the best way to do that consistent with your other priorities, capabilities and limitations. JohnnyT

RE: Make & Model Advice (Purchase)

The X factor is what the rear axle ratio is... I have an ISL my rear is 4:63 my buddy has an ISL his rear is 4:88... We are both 40 footers. My Buddy will beat me in any measure of acceleration... But My fuel mileage is significantly better... At my GCWR of over 40,000 lbs my ISL gets the job done... JohnnyT

RE: Spartan Chassis Wandering?

The first thing I would do is to check your tire pressures..Especially the rears... Rear tire low pressures will cause the the condition you described... There are other conditions relative to suspension and ride height... JohnnyT
