RE: Where to Sell Motorhome?

I put ads in the free papers. I put ads on Craig's list. I put a sign on it. Finally. Got sick of dealing with people who were not really serious, or who wanted to beat me up on the price. Consigned it with a local dealer, and it was sold in a week. I paid $400 to the dealer, but I saved a lot of time and frustration.

RE: Gettysburg Summer 2013

There is a KOA right in Harper's Ferry, a short easy walk to the Park's Visitor Center. From there there are buses that will take you on tours of many of the sites. Plus, you can get on or off at each stop to explore on your own. A nice section of the Appalacian trail goes right thru the park as well. And the trail HQ is right in Harpers Ferry.

RE: How many free drinks is ok?

Western Sky Ranch was not posting a series of stupid questions. If you have been on these boards more than a week, you will have read some of his posts.
It seems to me that he was making an ironic statement about the types of questions and replys posted.

RE: '04 PW Excel TS value?

Shop around. We waited 2 years, but this spring I picked up a beautiful 2003 Pleasureway Excel. 51,000 miles. Beautiful inside and out. Runs perfectly. Everything works, Everything looks practically new. The only issue I had was the fabric panel next to the side door was dried out from the sun. I paid a local upholstry guy $75 to replace the fabric.
I bought it off a dealer who had it on consignment...
I have seen older worn ones selling for $10,000 more.
We looked for two years. But when you finally find the one. jump on it. If I had waited another hour, I would have lost this one. I got lucky and was at the dealership when it rolled in.
**One thing I did do, was spend $10 on a gallon of RedMax Pro. Made it shine like new, and it is still shinning 6 months later.

RE: Billstein Comfort or Heavy Duty for Pleasureway?

John, ref your son's jarring ride comments, does your Excel have air bags on the rear axle? Some (most?) were so equipped by PW. If the shocks don't totally cure the ride, try experimenting with the air pressure, or adding air bags if you don't have them. I know my Tiger rides much better after adding them. I run about 15-20 psi, and it takes the thick, short bottom leaf spring out of play in normal driving.
Jim, "Yeah, I'm lost. But dam', I'm sure making good time!"
Thanks Handbasket. I was away for the forum for a few months.
I do have airbags, what pressure do you keep your at?
I think I am going to put the hd Billsteins on in January. Hopefully that will make the ride better.

RE: Losing hubcaps on our Pleasure Way

yes, I have lost two on my 2003 PW.
when I tried to replace them, I could not believe the cost (Over $100 from Ford!)
I found this site
Hubcap Haven
what has replicas for about $35. The only difference is no ford logo. For $100 I can live without the logo...

Which Billsteins? HD or Comfort for Pleasureway (Ford)

I am looking to order a set of Billsteins for my 2003 Pleasureway Excel TS (Ford E350)
I see there are both comfort and heavy duty versions.
Any thoughts on which would be better.
As an aside, I never ride on the back sofa, but my Son tells me that the ride is horribly hard and jarring back there. Do you think the new shocks would help with that?
Thanks

RE: Delaware River Bridge Toll

We seem to get charged a different amount every time we go across the New Jersey bridges. The route 40 bridge (Delaware Memorial) is operated by the Delaware River and Bay Authority while several others are operated by the Delaware River Port Authority. The rates are not always the same between the two authorities. At times, we have even been charged more for the pickup alone based on the GVWR. It seems that often even the toll collectors are confused about what to charge for pickups especially when they are towing RVs larger than a utility trailer.
X2 on getting charged a different rate each time in nj.
The Delaware memorial is cheaper than th Ben Franklin or Walt Whitman.

RE: Top Things I have Learned in 6 Years of Camping

LOL my butt off, forgot about empty park and and someone pulling in right next door.
One more, talk to your neighbors but leave them alone. I camp to get away and at Roaring River this week I spent one day escaping from a crazy neighbor. Go outside and he would come over. It was bad.
Same thing happened to us...park was empty (mostly) and although our neighbors were quiet, they pulled in right next door.
And don;t forget the corollary to this... no matter where you park your RV, no matter how far from the door, no matter how empty the lot... someone will park inches away from your rig, making it difficult to get out.

RE: Propane tank expiration

I do not believe that permanently mounted Horizontal tanks require recertification.
The rules for this type of propane container are governed by ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers). ASME tanks are not required to be re-certified since they are permanently installed. But DOT/TC cylinders, both vertical and horizontal, because they can be removed, transported and filled independently, do qualify for periodic re-certification.

RE: transporting pine firewood from Idaho to Utah and Arizona

The pine trees are infected with the pine bark beetle in Idaho, why would you want to take an infestation to another state? Leave the wood at home.
While visiting Mount Rushmore this summer I was talking to the ranger that was very knowledgeable about the bark beetle. I saw huge piles of dead wood and asked them how they planned on disposing off all those piles of dead wood containing the bark beetle. He told me there is no bark beetles in that dead wood that is piled up. Since the bark beetle killed those trees do they spray the wood with insecticide? NOPE! As soon as the tree dies the bark beetle leaves the wood and goes to a live tree. So why do we have out of control bark beetles anyway?
150 years ago the pine trees were cut for lumber and the tree population was kept to a minimum. Now those trees cannot be cut because the law prevents it. The area has become too overgrown with trees and not enough water. As the trees struggles in an over populated forest it puts out less sap. When a bark beetle tries to lay eggs in a healthy tree the bored hole seeps sap and forces the eggs out, hence very few bark beetles. Unhealthy trees with not enough water which means very little sap allows the bark beetle to enter and lay its eggs easily. The bark beetle is doing what we passed a law against. Decreasing the tree population to a point where the remaining trees get enough water.
Interesting theory, but I doubt it.
I doubt it too. The 4 trees I lost were very healthy and there is no overcrowding here. And they are dying all around this area in South Jersey.

RE: transporting pine firewood from Idaho to Utah and Arizona

I realise that it is illegal , immoral and a Dumb thing to do.
That said how much damage can a few sticks of wood actually cause?
This is a question only, not wanting to upset anyone but isn't the Ban aimed at commercial Wood Haulers as opposed to weekend Wallies?
Just Asking as I have never seen anyone with more than an armload or so of Firewood in their rigs.
How much damage can just one match do in a fireworks factory?
If the wood is infected by just a few of the beetles, it can be the start of millions if not billions in damage. I lost 4 beautiful 60 year old pines just this year alone to a bug so small you would not even notice it if it flew by...

RE: Grand Junction, Co. KOA Pool Restrictions

I asked for and received a refund of for the remaining reservation. I consider this a breach of contract (denying access to facilities) as well as discrimination against a person with disabilities.
I would not, under any circumstance, recommend the Grand Junction KOA.
REALLY? Discrimination because you could not do laps in a recreational pool? The ropes ar there for safety to keep people, especially kids, from inadvertently going into the deep end.
I think their safety trumps your "right" to swim laps.
IMHO
