RE: My first night boondocking

I was just down 1 on a month long trip from Oregon last October. That stretch is so awesome for the sunsets. Stopped at all kinds of places for pics and the views are phenomenal. I don't know why I stay here in the gray of the Northwest but summers here are so worth it. Oh well that is what travel is about. Chilihead...your right on the mark as to why we do this. The freedom and the getting into spots that a TC can do is a skill you will get better and better at. Did it feel a little spooky? Your inside in your safe zone looking out the windows at every thing moving that night?..or you got the best sleep ever right?..LOL!

RE: Batteries Dead?

Whew!....so glad it was just that. Did you find the rest of the info helpful? You now should be seeing a charge to the batteries on the pannel...green light at the top, 13.2 or better in the display.

RE: Batteries Dead?

JRJR... OK, there are a couple of things we/I should ask first. I'm a AF owner of two of their TC's so let us start here: First, are you aware that there is a battery cut off switch usually under the sink area? Did you turn this switch off by chance and forget you did? You should not turn this off while hooked up to shore power. Good call deltabravo! It should always be on if your hooked into shore power so the batts can charge. It is a big red key type. Second, are you sure your plug was well connected and power was coming into the TC? You can tell this by looking at the panel at and above your sink. It should show a green light at the top of the row of lights and show a voltage of around 13.2 or above. It is possible that you have a fail of the power/ charging supply. My concern is that the batts have gone dead. Once batts go under 50% or down to dead, it is not a good thing. How old are they? Are they wet or AGM? Are they Interstates? Is there any power from them at all and any power indication on your panel? Do you have power at all at the shore connection or are you sure your storage isn't turning off the power to the customers or the circuit breaker tripped to your connection? MMM....??

RE: Finally Getting Started: New Garage With RV Bay

OK,.. Another consideration!! Great Plan! Before you do the concrete floor, have you considered a radiant heated floor? I just insulated and plumbed mine with pink board insulation and a oxygen type barrier hose. There is a lot of research as to know how it is done but to keep things warm or at least above freezing, you should consider. Even if you didn't do it right away, a least the tubing is there in the concrete.

RE: New Dually and 992

Don't forget to sanitize your water tank...it only takes an hour. A cup of bleach to a tank. Fill it up, add the bleach, drive around the block and run all of the waterlines including the shower, toilet and hot water tank. Drain it all and refill it with fresh water...bugs will be gone for sure. Do that every 6 months just to be on the safe side. When you store it or not using it for more than two weeks, fill it full. Your in CA. The temps there are a breeding ground for mold and bad water in a tank. Air inside the tank can create mold inside. Drain it and refill it each time you use it. Stale water is not a good thing and you will find out soon enough what I'm talking about. SO.. the next thing is the chemical you put into the crapper. Do you already know what to use? It's a crappy job but you have to know this stuff...LOL! I use the blue stuff from Thetford called Aqua Kem. About 8 ounces per tank is ok but the higher the heat the more you need. Don't let your black tank sit after a trip, especially if your doing duty in it. Does your black tank have a connection to spray it out? I have a big suggestion for you before you put yourself in a spot. Camp in your driveway a night or two. Work things out now before your miles from home, this takes some practice and your new at this. Don't just shoot off your gun before you know how to point it. You will be thankfull that you took the time to get to know how to do this by listening to one of us old timers. Really your FIRST trip should be right in your own drive way, trust me!

RE: New Dually and 992

Nice package and well done! I have a couple of questions though. Do you have a plan to use a bed mat, have your bed lined or use both like I do? Does the Ford factory line beds now? A TC will rub the bed to the metal without some protection.. Just passing it along.

RE: Bump Stops?

I have a brand new set of these for sale as we speak. I only used them once, like only one day. If your interested PM me... I will double check the application. Does your truck have the factory overload bump stops already?.. that is the big question. HpyKmpr1962 has a good clicky that shows a pic of what I have.

RE: Finally got around to weighing my AF 865...

Quick questions....Are you towing with the truck? Does/would the landing restrict getting a stinger to the back? Do you already have a class V with a stinger on it?? They do add some weight. I would guess mine adds about another 100 pounds to the rear.

RE: Added 110 volt basement heat and fan

Hi kerry4951, I have been doing almost the same for years now. I have something a little extra for you. I froze a pump once and if you look at your AF you will see this will be an easy one too. Just under the tool compartment you will find the water pump and an extention of the basement area. Right next to the stair is a 110 plug. I just turn both my heaters on low, ( they come on at around 40 degrees which is perfect), so it keeps both the front and the rear basement above freezing. Like the switch idea...just a little lazy to do it I guess...LOL! Smart minds think alike!!! They should have something in place like this already , right?

RE: There Used To Be A Lot More Activity On The TC Forum??

My slow down is the direct result of fuel cost...my long hauls have defiantly been cut back. More staycations. Nothing fancy...used to do Az twice a year now it's once every two years...LOL! So not much to talk about...help a fail here and there or a newbie coming in but that's about it. Winter is typicaly slower all around so that's a big one too.

RE: do I have a faulty propane regulator?

Mine did the same thing....it's a cheap, easy fix around 40 to 50 bucks. Replace it. What may surprise you is the build up of really smelly, oily stuff in the hose after the regulator. I would suggest that you find a point as far away from the reg and use some compressed air to clear it out (not much pressure, you don't want to damage anything), just to make sure your line is clear. Put the hose in some thing to catch anything that might come out. Been there done that...good luck!

RE: F350 Camper battery Isolator

Everyone has it right...bypass the factory stuff. It is a simple install for most mechanically inclined. You then know exactly what and where it goes. I also am a fan of a separate plug altogether for a charge wire. I have it already wired and ready for that upgrade....just have to finish it. Really.. skip the bigger power wire from the 7 pin plug altogether if you can. You want to go even bigger than what that stock 7 pin plug can do. They make plugs that have the BIGGER diameter of that size of wire you need. It does not matter what truck you have.... wire in this example and your good to go...just do your home work.

RE: F350 Camper battery Isolator

Run the LARGER wires! You current setup can't be doing you any favors. You most likely will have a power block where all of your HOT leads come to, just look for the large red wires. (pic) You want to run BIG stuff..10 gage or bigger. Run an aftermarket isolator large enough to handle the load and be sure and properly fuse it.(pic) Here are some pics of mine. I need bigger wires myself!...another day. This was my first go and you live and learn. The small fused wire from the isolator is the hot wire from the key switch on the ignition. Hope this helps! I use mine even for the easy stuff like creeping up the leveling blocks. I just wouldn't do it any other way. More than paid for itself a few times and being a 4 season user it'sa must have.

RE: Why would battery run down in 4 weeks?

I would still check,(next time you have the camper off), that the charge wire to the TC is not HOT at all times. Again this is just a guess but if your not getting the batteries separated when your in the field, your using both batteries at the same time and you could run down the truck batt and not get restarted. Besides that; You are pulling a fuse, (OK), but I'm still not in belief that a camper of that year and a company that builds to standards does not have a battery cut off switch. Just for grins...look under your sink and see if you have a large red key looking thing. Do you know how to post pictures? I would like to see more and it could help us out a great deal. Sorry but I am trying to get a good start from the beginning. I know we can help so keep trying!
