RE: Motor Home Comfort
many people have posted about this problem, usually in tech issues, there are electric valves in the system and with many there is maual valve near the engine, many have heat problem & more having cooling problems, the evans A/C units can't keep up with all that glass and front end air flow.
this seems to me one adavantge to front engine gasoline fueled RV's better heating up front,
most users just run the furnace & or house A/C's, my uncle charlie is always complaining about the lack of dash heat or dash A/C with his safari DP
RE: inverter question
the go power 300 PSW might do it,
many new appliances have easier start up requirements to make them more efficient so they can get the energy efficiency compliance rating
RE: Heating MH
is the WH & fridge running on electric ? most do if set on automatic, time to make sure those items are on PROPANE,
we heat with the propane, and use the heat strip in the A/C only when the Onan is running, when on Shore power visiting family & friends for xmas, we have a oil filled heater we can use, but we make sure the fridge & WH stay on propane.
.
RE: Do they make caulk or tape that I can apply in rain?
eternabond, but you will likely have order it and wait.
to fix it now use heavy alum tape for heat ducts, get some dry rags and the umbrella, cover the area wipe it dry and stick some alum tape over it.
there's another way but it IS PERMANENT, goto the hardware store and get some waterproof underwater marine epoxy, usually 'white' in color, clean the areas with rags, don't worry about the rain or wet, just want to remove the dirt, mix a batch and cover/patch the hole, it will cure even under water, as it cures it drys and the leak stops
RE: External TV Tuners for LCD Monitors
stand alone tuners connect directly to cable or ant etc.. and directly to the monitor
a TV tuner card will will require a PC to put the card in.
I have a kworld pcima card that i have use in several laptops and it worked well, i recorded a bunch of the 2006 olympics with it, but its analog and i'm going to replace it.
RE: No power, batteries are dead yet I am plugged in
check the converter for 'fuses', some converters have specific fuses for 'reverse polarity' and will blow the fuse to protect the converter, after the 'accident' you might have a damaged fuse suppling marginal power, that has now failed, so now NO charge
RE: inverter question
IF you can see the compressor, try to read the numbers for the 'lock rotor' amps,
a lock rotor of 10amps at 120v would be 1200watts so you would need a 1500w inverter to reliably start the fridge.
I expect the lock rotor to be less, maybe 7amps ?
the lock rotor on my previous RV's roof top A/C was 54 amps thats why they often need 'soft start kits' ( suppco caps ) to reliably start from generator's
RE: Browser slow to load
when i went online this morning I got a FF update notice, 3.5.6 or 3.6 ?
i DL, but i haven't re-started FF yet, so I don't what the changes might be
RE: Aircard with router
the MIFI wifi IS encrypted the PW is included, extremely difficult for anyone to access the network with out the PW.
hackers don't access without the PW, what they do is listen to data traffic "sniffing" and then attempt to crack the PW to access the network. not enough reason to do this with personal wifi
easier to slip some malware into a website and sneak it onto your PC and 1000's of others and get your private info that way
RE: Laptop Versus Net/Notebook
smaller screen and smaller keyboard, IF your daughter's challenges do not affect her eye sight or her motor skills, the size should not be a problem, she might even like it more because the smaller size may APPEAR less intimidating and easier to use. most give much better battery life so she can use it in other rooms and not be tied to the power supply.
i say go for it
RE: Verizon Field test data
gps good idea, i was going to suggest marking the tower points on a map, and then mark your house, then draw straight lines to the towers, use the lines to point the antenna, the signals coming from OTHER directions are bouncing, this bouncing will change with weather & season foliage, even if one of the bounces reads stronger to day, it could be weaker next week or tomorrow, also the cell modem will require (2) way contact, the return bounce going to the tower from your modem will not be the same strength as the signal you recieve, you should point directly at a tower.
use your PC & cell modem, and point in the map direction and take your readings, use the strongest one, data roaming is allowed with the verizon cell modem, so use the one with the best connection
RE: Ok, what happened?
this is NOT a car there are SIX batteries involved, removing the cable from the chassis/engine batteries will NOT fry the alternator, the 4 house batteries will still be connected via the charge control relay's or solid state isolator, there will still be a load on the alternator only 2 of the batteries will be removed and they do not even make up the heaviest load, the house batteries are the heaviest load and will remain connected, alternately the house batteries could be disconnect to allow full output to go to the engine/chassis batteries
why were 6 batteries dead after 2 weeks of storage, you have a problem, the house batteries and chassis are on separate circuits,
the house should have stayed charged IF you used the battery disconnect while in storage, the chassis should not run down in (2) weeks or am i mistaken about the storage time
if they were charged and you have problems, with the engine side turning off the disconnect, charging the house side was NOT a good idea, isolated load with NO feed back to engine to keep it running
running a jumper cable from charged house batteries to weak engine batteries would give you extra battery power.
if the house batteries are dead and would not start the MH from the emg start, then turning on the disconnect was a bad idea, the alternator cannot keep up with 6 DEAD BATTERIES.
RE: Black Friday Sales
I did my black friday on line, just a couple of items that have already arrived, like one so much i ordered another one today $2 cheaper, as a gift.
RE: Food for the Recession! Yummy!
Well, that's a video I could have skipped. Being so close to Christmas, I wonder which one it was? Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donder, or Blitzen! One thing for sure, it's not Rudolph, no red nose!
must be Blitzen, he had the wrong map the other night during a verizon commercial
RE: 1983 Pace Arrow
Quick Fuel This is the carb I went with on a nice Performer alum intake. Quick Fuel is like Holley but all alum body. But when it came to Headers I decides to stay stock cause the heat levels in the engine compartment will increase with headers. Cooling is an up hill battle in the hot season. I even added oil cooler and trans cooler w/electric fan too. Coolers are mounted to back of grill and addition fan is on the front of radiator to push air in while clutch fan pulls. Just a few ideas.
speaking of heat , when i replaced the water pump, and flushed the radiator, when i put everything back together i built an air dam up front, behind the grill to force the air thru the radiator instead of letting it go under the rad & around the rad. these PA's have way too much open space up front and the air gets re-directed thru the easy openings instead of going thru the rad and cooling the engine.
this was a big topic here a few years ago and several people including me took lead from another member who did the air dam when rebuilding his MH.
I made mine out of 1/2 inch marine grade plywood
its basically a scoop or funnel it directs the air coming thru the grille to where it does the most good, instead of letting it get away and be wasted.
RE: Verizon Field test data
what are you using to get the field test data, a meter or a phone ?
you need to determine that you are reading towers for the cell company you have and NOT roaming, that info will be displayed on your phone, turn off roaming in the setup menu's, or turn on the roaming beep indicator msg.
point the antenna to the strongest 'non-roaming' correct network signal
why drive to the tower, you need signal readings where HOME where you are mounting the antenna
RE: Wiring for driving and fog lights
mine are wired to the battery via fuse and extra wiring with a toggle switch on the dash, they can be used independently, without the normal headlights
