RE: do you need to grease kingpin

While I agree that any time we have metal on metal contact we should have some lubeon it, we do need to be aware of a few thu gs so as to make a somewhat informed decision regarding the the type of lube to use. Moist sticky stuff will allow grit and small particles to adhere, ultimately turning your otherwise good idea to grease the king pin into a bad idea similar to wrapping the kingpin in sand paper. On exposed friction points a dry lube, perhaps graphite based is recommended. Just sayin...lube is a food idea, but use the correct lube for the application.

RE: engine add on's for a gas job

2-3 MPG is *very* optimistic. More like .25-.75 MPG. If that. Most gasser add-ons are designed to separate the buyer from his money, nothing more. Years ago, I bought one of those K&N filters with the promise of 20HP gains in my little 4.3L V6. Right after I installed it, boy oh boy could I fell the difference in the seat of my pants. Felt like someone put a rocket engine underneath the truck and lit it off... Then after a while I started to notice that the truck really wasn't performing any better than it had before... It was all in my head! I think your being too optimistic ! Just buy more gas...

RE: When to Winterize going north

He may have used the wrong term, , but the wind will help to cool things down simply by carrying what ever latent heat there was in the mass away. Having said that..your question is best answered by understanding daytime high and nighttime low differential. If your day it high is 12c or more for 5 hours or more per day, and your nighttime low is no colder than -12c for more than 5 hours you will not freeze up. This has been my experience...

Cool attractions/camping ideas from Alberta to Ontario..

Time is our concern, we don't have the usual 2 months to hit the road this year.. My DW and 6 year old pinkaliscious princess enjoy the road...as we will only have about 14 days max in a row I'd like some ideas regarding cool things to do and how long it takes to see and do these things... We live in southern manitoba, and are thinking about taking the old 16 west to Alberta, on to Drumheller through to number 1 and back home...this is not cut in stone so open to ideas for travel east..in fact a good excuse go to Sault Ste. Marie for the train ride is all we need :) my daughter loves the people at blueberry hill campground just outside of the Soo. So from manitoba east to Ontario, or west to Alberta..some cool rv routes, things to do etc while hauling the rig or camped and unhooked...

So much to list...we have done that trip 2 years In a row and I'm trying to convince the family to do it again this year...so many things to do...there is no shortage of awesome to enjoy...we were on the road for a month last year and there is still more to do...my parents live in Amherst NS and they took us on some back road "old highway" anitque trips..my gosh do I envy you :) Thinking this year my 6 year old should go west as well... Enjoy !

RE: Neighborly deed gone wrong :(

Well...maybe at 42 I'm old fashioned or just dumb... But the way I see it... You should mention it, just let him know what was done wrong, do it in a way that doesn't place blame...remember, had a have not rolled it up it very likely would have been torn by the wind anyway.. I once tried to help out and load up a a quad into some other guys truck...the ATV brakes were shot, when I got to the top it didn't strop on a dime like I expected, I broke the rear window on the truck... The owner said something to the effect of how it was his fault for not telling me... I opened mud wallet and asked if 200 bones would cover it....

RE: Anyone know how much wind a pop up will take.

Some popups can handle some pretty crazy wind, others not so much. Many variables come into play. How loose the fabric is, how much bracing is in the walls when popped up etc... I have a buddy that has one that he uses during goose season, he camps on open fields with nothing to block the wind, I've seen a picnic table made from 2x6 lumber flipped from the wind and his pop up is still in tact...

Another season comes to an end....

Sadly, it is official, the pink is in the lines, the bedding laundered and stored in the stick house...an end to another great season... 14793 kilometers driven over 61 nights My 5 year old is telling stories of Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, buffalo New York and all points in between...we had a teacher call home and confirm that daddy fed the deer and we stayed at yogi beers campground at marineland near niagra falls... We spent near 20k this year on fuel and related road trip expenses and knowing that my daughter is telling un real stories about ferry rides, coverd bridges, and Anne of green gables has me saving even more cash for next years big adventure...route 66 or Natchez trace....I can't wait !
