RE: A good campground on the beach in FLA

Look at Fort De Soto near Tampa.
Fort De Soto campgrounds
It doesn't have direct access to the beach.
You might get a water front site, but you have to drive to the beach

RE: Snakes

I'll gladly take your snake and welcome in my TT.
then I won't have to worry about the mice.
Don't worry, the snakes are not taking up residence there. It is just seeking a safe place to shed it's skin.

RE: Buying a site in an RV Resort.

A parking dog next door can happen any where including in a residential sub division
The owners of that dog are inconsiderate and there should be some kind of ordinance to prevent it.
In almost every RVpark we stay in, there are rules that say that loud and noisey dogs will not be tolerated and the owners of them will be asked to leave.
Have you spoken with the RV park owners?

RE: Has any one noticed lately...

I wasn't talking about the stuff on the right hand side of the page.
I am talking about when you click on a particular forum, and you can't get it at all because a page of RV's for sale or similar comes up.
It doesn't happen all the time. Just sporadically. If no one else is getting it, it must be a fluke on my computer.

Has any one noticed lately...

that at different times when you click on a particular forum or post, a advertisement for some Rv stuff comes up ?
Is this one of the new changes that the esteemed CEO is putting in place, or is it a bug in my computer?
Could it be the start of the end of some good RV'ing forums?

RE: Whats the best way to test the heater on the driveway ?

As mentioned. Just turn it on. However. The furnice uses a lot of gas. So before you go. Be sure the tanks are full. Do not want to run out in the middle of a really cold night. Of course. You may want to invest in a space heater to hepl the furnice if you have hookups.
BTW. Where is Hurdle Mills
BTW again. Don't be surprised if you don't get heat right away. The furnice in a camper is not like the one in the house. the fan comes on as soon as the furnice does, and blows cold air until the furnice warms it, also. Don't be surprised at the noise. RV furnices are loud.
For what it is worth; a home gas furnace will have it's blower turn on prior to the the furnace kicking in just the same as the Rv. It is code and for your safety to blow out any explosive gases that might have leaked into the plenum.
In both the home and Rv ones the blower will continue for a short period after the furnace shuts off to clear any unwanted gasses.

Thanks,
It has never happened to me in eight years of trailing, but I'll make sure to watch for it from now on - just in case !

RE: how much cribbing?

2 sets of the orange legos and I'm good. That's 20. Never needed them all yet. I stack the extras under the jacks so I don't have to crank them all the way down.
Same here, except I just leave the ones I don't need in the storage compartment

RE: Good Place to Eat near Colllier-Seminole ???

Yes; (if you are not looking for high class)
the closest one is: go out of the park and turn left.
Go a quarter mile up the road and turn left at the road to Goodland and Marco Island.
As soon as you go over the Goodland Bridge, turn left into Goodland.
there is a good place on the left hand side of the road with parking on the right side across the road.
Sit on the deck at the railing over the water, and you'll have the fish trying to jump in your lap as you thrown them some bread.
There are a bunch of good places in Everglades city, (too many to list them all)
Our favorite is the one across from the National Park Headquarters, but there are others.
As you come off the long straight away, take the right just as you are entering everglades City and there are several good ones down that road where all the commercial fishing boats and packing plants are.
If you want a fantastic blackened grouper sandwich, go to the cuban restaurant out on Chockoloskee. It is on the right just after the causeway. they are only open for lunch and close at three PM.
The guy that owns it is also the commercial fishermean.
sorry I don't remember the names of these places. My wife who is the name person is still in bed or I would have them for you. I just enjoy their food.

RE: Key West for the X-Mas Holidays

Will be there the week before Christmas visiting my daughter but unfortunately I will not be in an RV. When I started planning this trip I was planning on pulling my trailer but when I was trying to check out the cost of the sites I bought airline tickets.
I know the NAS mentioned above is for military. I am a veteran but not a reitree so figured I would not qualify to be able to stay there. The other one mentioned I did not find in my search.
Are there some "affordable" places in KW that one could stay for a week or month for someone who is on a fixed income?
NO !

RE: Winterizing questions

for the like of me, I don't understand why people blow out their lines and then put pink stuff in afterwards.
For the past 7 years I have put the pink stuff in using the water pump, and it only takes a few minutes, (I am guessing 5 minutes).
I use slightly over a gallon of it, and that is on a 25 foot TT
I also have wondered what the people who blow out their lines due to get the water out of the traps?
Pumping the pink stuff through the lines automatically puts it in the traps

RE: mice

Don't use poison !
I made that mistake several years ago and would never use it again.
We had one die in the heat duct, and it was next to impossible to get it and it's gross smell out of the TT.
We didn't realize it was there until we turned on the heat during our first spring trip, and the smell that came out was unbearable.
The sucker had evidently died in a section of duct that I could not reach between the plenum and the registers with my shop vac.
I finally had to use my high powered leaf blower, and parts and pieces flew everwhere.
we constantly check for mice tracks and just use the spring loaded traps if we see any signs.
They can and did make a awful mess chewing up linens, toilet paper and paper towels for the nests.

RE: Route to Florida

Yeah, take 81 to 77 to 26 to US 301s TO Ocala. No DC, no Jax, no Orlando.
Or do it that way, but then pick up 95 again where 26 crosses it in SC, and then pick up 301 down in Florida.
that is our preferred way. -301 down through SC can be slow at times

RE: Quick winterization question - Tanks

What we do, and it has worked well in below zero temperatures for seven seasons.
Naturally drain the gray tank, and then do the same with the black but also add the normal chemicals which will keep it sanitized.
Then when we pump the pink stuff through the lines, there is always enough that gets into the gray tank to take car of it.
Also there is some that gets into the black tank when we pump it through the toilet

RE: Retired, may I ask your opinion

for what it is worth;
I retired at age 67. I am now age 73.
I have no debt and no mortage and a goodly amount of stash.
My wife and I live month to month on our social security and are having a ball.
We race both canoes and kayaks and also paddle them in the wilderness.
I honestly don't know how I got my home chores done when I was in the work force, since now I never seem to be able to keep on top of them.
There is nothing that I want that I can't have.
Am I happy? -You bet your sweet bippy I am, and I hope I never have to get off the train, although I know it is inevitable someday.
Cheers,

RE: Installing laminate flooring

We love the wood look laminate floor, and I have installed it in our entire house, after trying it out in one bed room for a few years.
It is completely maintenance free and stands up to spills and stains much better then wood.
With that said, you might want to consider the weight factor before you do it. It is going to add a lot of weight to your RV.
Estimate the quantity that you will need, and get the total weight of what you will be doing.
Also, keep in mind that it is a "floating" floor, and you must leave a 1/4" space on the entire perimeter. This requires the use of a 1/4 round molding, which must be attached to the walls and what ever else the laminate is next to, and it can't be attached to the floor. It must be attached to the side walls and or cabinets, etc.
In all my rooms I pre drilled pilot holes in all of the quarter round for brads, prior to installing each piece.
I also made all my own thresholds out of matching oak, and they also overlap the laminate, so it floats under them.
I wouldn't attempt it without having a table saw, since your rip and cross cuts should all be perfect
If done right it comes out beautiful.
