RE: outside shower

My neighbor made one from pvc or cpvc piping - a 3 sided thingie (lots of room) and had velcro-ed shower curtains around the frame and some hook things for hanging one of those home shower organizers on it. Used an upside down soda bottle tray to stand on while showering, and had a folding chair for sitting/dressing. This was years back at a beach house - she wanted the kids washed (no sand) before entering the house. Back in my tenting days, I had a solar shower bag and an inflatable enclosure. Think I bought the enclosure at a sporting goods store, but can't remember which. My problem with the enclosure was that it had to 'hang' from something and generally there wasn't anything close to hang it on. It didn't get used often.

RE: 2007 bayside water problem

Your water pump is most likely under the glide out - you might want to check the connections there, although if you are using campground or 'city water' you shouldn't be using the water pump or the on-board water tank. Someone with a bit more knowledge should chime in here - this response should 'bump' you back to the top of the page.

Firedude - good to read of you again! Best wishes for the holidays, etc.

RE: Shower Drain

I have a zip-it, and use it mostly at home for the bathroom basin drain (ug), but found it a miracle to unclog the vacuum cleaner hose!

RE: And the scams go on....

Twice now I've gotten e-mails from a 'look-alike' bank (same name as mine) saying they need more information to process my online banking request. (Mind you I don't use on-line banking - use my ATM, or do telephone transfers via my banks 800# when traveling). E-mail looked legit, but when I 'replied' asking who, what and when a transaction was requested, the mail did not go through, so copied the fradulent e-mail and sent it to my bank's 'abuse' department (listed on the legitimate web-site). I've gotten thank you's from the bank as they are trying to eliminate (prosecute) this fraudulent e-mailer.

RE: Passport America

I am a member. Daughter lives in Fayetteville, NC and when I go to visit, I take the camper....utilize Passport America's 'Art's RV Sites' for $12.50/night vs. $25/night (in this case no restrictions). PA does have restrictions, but, for $49/year membership, it's well worth the cost.

RE: Water pump Problems......

Check the water level in your tank as it may be getting too low and the pump may be getting some air and not able to hold the pressure. You may also want to run the other faucets (if you have them) to purge the air from them. Your pump may hold the pressure then.

RE: Route to Florida

The route I take from NJ to southern Maryland is: Crossing the DE Memorial Bridge, taking 896 south (it runs into 301), following 301 all the way to I-95 just above Richmond, VA. (I live just at the 301/Potomac River Bridge). I don't take the Richmond bypass (295), but rather continue south on I-95 through VA and into NC. There is a fairly new campground at Roanoke Rapids area if you wish to stop. If I've got the stamina, I continue on to South of The Border and enjoy thier campground. At some point (and I can't think without looking at the map) I then pick up US 17 (very scenic route) and meander through all the small towns pretty much into FL (if I'm not racing time). I've also enjoyed traveling US 301 most of the trip, and once did a segment of the trip on US 1.... When traveling I-95 into FL, I do utilize the Jacksonville bypass. If going to the west coast, I will take I-10 over to 75 and south from there. I do not care for I-4. I've also used 301 in FL, as well as 441. Depends upon time and destination.

RE: Not rich

Welcome As to segments here, it's not the money....it's more like retired vs. not retired, full timers vs. weekenders and/or periodic campers. Some folks have sold their stick/brick homes and invested sales revenue in a Class A they can feel comfortable living in while traveling, others have found it better to finance the purchase (maybe for tax reasons). As to outside speakers, some of these folks love to have folks over and watch the game outside. As to an icemaker - they may prefer beverages over ice, or need the ice for blender beverages and ice trays really don't keep up with demand. Ice runs get tedious and expensive (not to mention messy when dealing with a cooler and the melt). You will find that it's not how much money one makes or has, but rather how they choose to spend what they make or have. But we all have one thing in common and that is our rolling condos whether driven or towed.

RE: Cleaning out Around Propane Controls

I use my vacuum cleaner's exhaust to blow out those areas - I can adjust the strength of the exhaust. I've also vacuumed the buildup with okay results. If blowing out - wear safety glasses - the stuff goes everywhere!

RE: time to set up?

I solo, and with setting up, it might take me an hour - popup gizmos on bunk ends, glide out, awning/add-a-room, raising the roof, ridgepoles or shepards poles to bunks and glide out, connecting water, sewer and electric, turning on the propane, lighting the stove to purge the air, then lighting the water heater. Having a partner and established routine makes it much faster and easier.

RE: So how do you divide up your camping chores??

As I solo, my duties are divided as follows: Immediate - level, chock, disconnect from Tow Vehicle, raise the roof and begin set up of the PUP. Connect to electric pedistal....maybe water and sewer. Inside set up of coffeemaker. Food from cooler to fridge and fridge turned on. Later - water/sewer connection, hang towels, etc.

RE: reason one would not want to hook up to sewer?

I heard some fellow rv'er mention the sun's deterioration of the hose if connected....another mentioned crows liking to peck at the hose...someone else expressed concern over sewer gas buildup or some such thing, and, this one really had me giggling....something might crawl up out of the sewer.... I don't have a greywater holding tank, so I hook up.

RE: UPDATE

I was fortunate in that I priced my house to sell, and while there were others in the neighborhood prettier, with more features, etc., mine had viewers visit, had two contracts within the 3 months it was listed - sold within the 3 months whereas the neighbors did not sell until after I had my contracts, and while I didn't get my top price as listed, I was above my bottom price.

RE: Furnace Problem

If you don't have a battery, your converter is the source of your 12-volt power, and that would be what to check - I would think. it takes the 120 volt from the campground electric and converts it to 12-volt ... maybe it overheated and shut down.

RE: your favorite egg recipes?

I've been making the Louisburg Cafe Bread Pudding recipe on a regular basis - using 6 beaten eggs, 6 cups of milk, 3/4 cup of sugar, 1 cup raisins, 12 cups of broken bread, doughnuts, etc. Bake at 350 degrees - 45 minutes (works well in 13x9x2 pan). I add a bit of vanilla extract and cinnamon sometimes. We like it for breakfast as well as a dessert. Kinda like french toast in pudding form!

RE: Putting away the awning by myself

I rest the awkward bundle on my shoulder and scootch carefully to within reach of the zipper and begin zipping, tightening the roll on my shoulder every few inches I zip. Very awkward, but it works...after it's halfway zipped, I will insert 2 of the ridgepoles and the other two get inserted when it's just about finished.

RE: Newbie Questions on Trip Planning - Campgrounds

Although my PUP has a bathroom, that is something important to me for that entry night shower! I will use the TL directory to find the campgrounds in the area I wish to stop or stay, then read the reviews at rvparkreviews.com to get a better picture.

RE: What is your limit for a pop-up

My health dictated I could no longer pack/load, etc. for tent camping, so I began the popup hunt. Viewed a few, and bought a fully loaded Fleetwood Niagara new (as my Ram 1500 and Durango could both tow it). The amenities make for very comfortable living (I call mine a rolling condo). Would suggest you check out the various manufacturers websites (Jayco, Coleman, Starcraft, etc.) and look at the floor plans/amenities/specs of the various units, then go view - sit on the potties, fake a shower, fake preparing a meal, lay on the bunks - see which models feel comfortable to you.
