RE: Air leakage from tires

Air can and does escape through the tire, as well.Eventually, of course, the tire will disintegrate. However, I recently did an experiment - I aired up my RV tires and drove on them for two years without ever making a pressure change. No problem - No leakage. YMMV

RE: Air leakage from tires

Some air will always get out of a tire no matter what! It's simple physics really. Molecular diffusion, often called simply diffusion, is a net transport of molecules from a region of higher concentration to one of lower concentration by random molecular motion. The result of diffusion is a gradual mixing of material. In a phase with uniform temperature, absent external net forces acting on the particles, the diffusion process will eventually result in complete mixing or a state of equilibrium. This is why you need to check your tires regularly.....So diesel fuel will diffuse through your fuel tank until you have a complete mix of tank and fuel? Oh wait a minute, you can also reach a state of equilibrium - like with all the fuel on the inside, and all the tank on the outside (could this be a metaphor for air and tire?

RE: Air leakage from tires

The air is captured within the tire by the integrity of the tire itself, the integrity of the rim, the integrity of bond between the rim and the tire, the integrity of bond between the rim and the valve stem, the integrity of the bond between the valve stem and the valve, and the integrity of the valve. The most common leakage problems seem to relate to the valve and valve stem. If there aren't any problems, a tire should hold it's pressure for years. BTW, some people seem to think that air can somehow pass through the sidewall/tread of a tire. Well built tires are air tight

RE: RV accessories around Montgomery al?

You might try Marlin Ingram RV. They are on the south side of town on the Troy Highway. Give them a call before driving there to see if they have what you need.

RE: Trip Planning with Google/Bing Maps?

Well, the approach I use is to keep the map window open as long as necessary. I don't logout (I would switch to the login window which preserves my session and put the computer to sleep), and I don't shut down the computer. The only time the computer goes through a shut down is when Apple sends out an update that requires a restart. If that happened I would delay the update until after I finished what I was doing.

RE: Argh, stupid county regs!

Could you get away with filling the space between the ground and underbelly with rigid foam insulation under these new regs? No deck, no skirting, plenty of insulation, and no air movement under the RV?

RE: AT&T ranked dead last in satisfaction survey

Yes AT&T was pathetic in that ratings survey. Having been on three different cell services over the past 18 years, I have to say the Verizon has been the best for me. In the urban areas they all seem to have pretty good coverage, but when you move out into the ex-urbs where I live the service can fall off with AT&T. As to customer service, I have to say I have had zero problems (knocking wood) with Verizon's customers service, they have always proven to be friendly and have resolved my issues. This is why, even though I am an "Mac person", I waited for Verizon to get a top notch smartphone, instead of switching and using the iphone on AT&T. I purchased a Motorola Droid as soon as they came out last month and I am a very happy camper so far. BTW, Verizon is supposed to be swamping the market with Android phones next year, it will be interesting to see how in impacts AT&T as their customers contracts fall off and as the Android OS is improved over time (it's pretty good right now) just as the iphone OS was also improved over time. Of course there is always speculation, seemingly more rampent these days that Verizon will get some sort of Apple phone next fall, although by that time it might not matter as much as Android gets more accepted. It's worth noting that an independent cell phone market analyst estimated that they have sold 800,000 Droids in less than a month. There sure was a lot of pent up demand for a good Verizon smartphone considering how many millions of folks already have the iphone. Don't get me wrong, Blackberry and Palm have made some good smartphones, but they aren't like the iphone/Android phones when it comes to apps and internet access. Anyway, as usual I am heading off topic.BTW, Apple has contracted with a second Chinese company to build another model of the iPhone for Verizon next year.

RE: Just so you don't forget

The vast majority of the guns used for violent crime in Canada are guns smuggled into Canada from the US. You don't need them here and we don't want them here. Leave them at home! There have been gun smugglers that have brought in many of them.. people who go across the border on a regular basis. When they are caught our laws/judges throw the book at them.. and so they should!!Let's make a deal - the US can stop smuggling guns into Canada and the Canadians can stop smuggling drugs into the US! Seems fair to me! Especially since a lot of the people in Canada involved in gun violence are gangs involved in drug smuggling.

RE: Steering Stabilizer for Neway IFS?

OP, why do you think you need one? DITTO! We have a Neway IFS and have driven all kinds of roads with all kinds of traffic in all kinds of weather, plus one front tire blowout. Never needed any kind of steering help. You might want to make sure you that your chassis, front and rear suspension, and frame are all in order. Take it to a competent suspension shop that handles trucks and busses - not a tire or RV dealer, and have it checked out.

RE: What is happening to this forum and the format?

I would hit the HOME button if I had one. Is it hidden too?Must be a Mac user :) Try fn + left or right arrow Still, please bring back the navigation at the bottom of the page. I have my MacBook sitting on a TV tray and sit back in my lounge chair with a mouse to surf. Call me lazy but I don't want to get up to push buttons when I'm nice and comfy in my chair ;) I run a forum, it would take me about 30 minutes to figure out what code needs to be added to fix the problem.... hey rv.net, need to hire a support person? LOLGee, all my macs have home buttons??? It's above "end" left of "page up"My MacBook Pro has no "Home" button.Ah, I have iMacs. They are potable enough to live in the RV.

RE: Tire Pressure

I bought a compressor at Sears several years ago that will go to about 145psi. I think you can find similar compressors at Lowes, Home Depot, etc.

RE: Yellowstone travel

I remember tent camping in Yellowstone on the 4th of July some years back. We had about 3 feet of snow, and several campers just deserted their stuff and bailed. However, thanks to global warming, you shouldn't have any cold weather in the early summer now :)

RE: DircTV HD Crank-up Antenna

Note that some DirecTV antennas, like the slimline appear to have 3 feedhorns, but actually have 5 LNBs inside the 3 horns with the LNBs for the satellites at 99, 101, and 103 all inside the larger oval shaped center horn. http://www.satpro.tv/ProductImages/wb68instalation333.gif

RE: Motorhome @ Stick Home When Snowbirding?

You might want to make a couple of trial runs before you retire to find out what y'all like and don't like. Snowbird parks have a lot of activities and amenities, and can cost accordingly. I think these may sort of make up for the socializing and activities people leave behind in the winter. Also, many people develop good meaningful friendships during the winter there. A lot of people snowbird in the desert around Quartzsite Arizona with very few amenities. Also, some people move from place to place during the winter. Depending on how long you have before you retire, you might be able to save up some leave and sample different places and styles. Also, once you do retire, you can also change your winter habits to find what you like best. If you start out by buying a winter stick home at first, you might cut down on your flexibility later if it turns out not to be the best approach for you.

"utilizing magnetic-levitation technology" This doesn't sound like a real white knight to me, more like a kook.

RE: DircTV HD Crank-up Antenna

Ask your neighbor about the dish and setup and HD programming, etc. The dish owner probably knows more about the dish than the people on the forum can guess.

RE: Progressive Fulltimers Insurance catch

If you work in AZ, then that time-frame shortens considerably. (AZ Residency Rules) Interesting in that if someone Workamps in AZ (other then picking fruit) you are considered a resident? From that page: State law requires that you obtain an Arizona vehicle registration and driver license, immediately if any of the following applies. If you: Work in Arizona (other than for seasonal agricultural work)These short statements on the DMV web site aren't the whole story. 1. A friend of ours who worked for GE spent two and a half years in Arizona on a temporary duty business assignment, and remained a resident of Massachusetts and kept his drivers license, car registration and tags, etc. throughout that period. 2. Also, "ARIZONA DEPARTMENT OF REVENUE ARIZONA INDIVIDUAL INCOME TAX PROCEDURE ITP 92-1 PROCEDURE FOR DETERMINING RESIDENCY STATUS ISSUE: Who is an Arizona resident for Arizona income tax purposes? -------- snip --------- (c) Every individual who spends, in the aggregate, more than nine months of the taxable year within Arizona is presumed to be a resident. The presumption may be overcome by competent evidence that the individual is in the state for a temporary or transitory purpose. -------- snip ---------"

RE: Contrast Ratio -Huge Disparity - Does it Really Matter?

Contrast numbers that you see stated are either static or dynamic. The big numbers are dynamic. I'll look it up, but a 10,000 to one dynamic contrast ration may be equivalent to a 2,000 to one static ratio.
