RE: How does your Shark Bite feel?

They work great!
I have them in my "O****" box for emergencies. They are a little expensive to use all the time.

RE: Another canoe rack

Every time I put something on the roof of my TC I tell myself I'm building a small trailer like that one Photomike did. Strap the Kayaks to the top, load the genny, gas, wood, water, tools, and stuff in the trailer.

RE: Tellico River off-road trail system to close permanantly

I wondered when this would happen. The Area sure has seen a lot of use in the past few years.
That was my favorite place to camp when visiting (since I was 10 years old) and photographing the area.
How long before they make "The Dragon" a toll road with a 25 mph speed limit?
It turns out that the Dragon has already been made into a 25 mph speed trap... sheriff cars are posted at each end writing tickets (in leau of tolls I guess). This came from a good friend that was down their recently.
TN. LEO's have been enforcing the 30MPH pretty hard for the past few years. REAL HARD!
Along with a billion other silly infractions. It was a little ridiculous last year, this year it didnt seem so bad. You pretty much had to be asking for it to get a ticket. The problem is when the LEO's sit on the last down hill stretch of road where you will get rolling over 30 in a heart beat. That is a real speed trap! And the media plays it up also. There havnt been that many deaths on the "dragon" this year. There have been that many deaths in the "area". The Skyway and people not staying in their lane on blind corners has claimed most of them.
That sure is a beautiful part of the country! I hope we can keep enjoying it and the whole place dosnt turn into Gatlinburg.

RE: Why are TCs not allowed in some CGs (RV parks)?

I've only heard about people getting turned away at RV Resorts, never a Campground.
RV Resorts are not about Camping. If you want to go Camping you have no bizzness there.
If you want to has the best matching jogging suits, the snazziest golf cart, or the most annoying little yapping designer dog, than you need to drop $300.000 on a 40 foot pusher and a bunch of light up lawn decorations.

RE: Traveling in the rain

I dont think I ever left the house without hitting rain within the first 50 miles!
You wont have any problems with the fridge vent.
Rain? What's rain? :h
We had a lot of it in Ohio! I think it's an East of the Mississippi thing.

RE: Designing and onboard AC instead of rooftop

I remember seeing one where the AC was installed so it fit in front of or behind the wheel well down close to the floor. Looked really good!
I'll try to find that post.

RE: Mileage for 7.3 deisel

Like the rest have said, wind resistance is what kills you. I haul my fiver at 17,000+ pounds and 40 feet long and get 10-11 mpg. Put my Lance Truck Camper on at around 3,000 pounds loaded, and I get 12-13.
I dont know about the Fords, but the "Sweet Spot" for my Cummins is around 2,200 RPMs. That's about 60-65 mph in sixth gear. Much over that and the milage drops real quick.

"Was at Cabelas yesterday and it was on sale for 699. It only weighs 33# so I can toss it on top of the TC with ease!!"
We'll see how easy that is after a day of paddling!

RE: Help Needed with New DRW Problem

I discovered a new draw back to owning a DRW yesterday. I was driving around my neighborhood try to rock the truck back and forth to shake up the black water tank before I dumped it. Despite my best efforts, I couldn't get the truck the sway back and forth. Any one else have this problem? Any solutions?
Brad
I bet you get 28 to 30 mpg with that truck with the camper on.

RE: New to Truck Campers

I hear ya with the sway issue. When I brought my Lance 915 home from the dealer I damn near sh_t myself! I was thinking I was just hauling my 40 foot fifth wheel with no issues and my truck cant handle this truck camper!
I cant tell you about shocks as I havnt changed mine out from stock yet. But I put a Roadmaster sway bar on my truck and it was a very big improvement. I also have some bump stop extenders on there so my overloads stay engaged. Air bags will only level it out and make it sway more if your overload springs are not working for you.
Good Luck!

RE: Whats the Real deal on propane generators?

Propane weighs a little over 4 pounds per gallon. My Onan 3500 uses about .5 gallon an hour, and my Onan 5500 used about 1 gallon an hour at load. So two 40 pounders didnt go far. My 5500 gas uses about 1 gallon an hour but I can carry 30 gallons of gas and gas is easier to find than propane.
In my truck camper I use a Honda 2000i and a gallon of gas lasts me close to 8 hours. I take it with me in the fifth wheel also, it will run everything I need in the fiver and I can stay in the boonies for a long time.
Built in gensets are nice and conviniant for rest area stops and overnighters in the Walmart parking lot, but if you want to spend some time off the grid, it's hard to beat the 2000i

RE: Waxing 5th wheels

If your 5er is gel coated dont use regular automotive wax, use something made for gelcoat. Big difference.
I've used several brands, they all have worked well so far.
After I wash mine I fill a bucket with water and mix in a cup or two of Armor All and wash the trailer down with that. It keeps it shiny and bugs dont stick. Well, they dont stick as bad.

RE: Elkmont Campground being evacuated now

When I was in that area a year or two ago for spring time photography the water table was down 24 inches or more. I saw parts of rivers and streams I never have in 25 years.

RE: Snow Camping?

I sure do like my Olympic Catalyst Heater. It has kept me warm and saves a lot of propane compared to the camper furnace. Leave a window cracked for fresh air and you'll be fine. If you dont leave a window open a little it will get to damp in there heater or no heater.
Dont forget to pour a little antifreeze in you drains to fill the traps after you use them.
