RE: Camping fever

It happens to all of us. Not just when it is new but every year around February - March. Look at it this way though, at least you didn't go out an buy a camper without having a truck to tow it with for six to eight more months. Just think, you would actually have to go to the storage yard where you keep it and pretend you are camping and "seeing the world". That would be just absolutely crazy!

RE: Mice

Mice can fit into the tiniest of holes. Wires, hoses, ducts, etc all run underneath and inside - possibly leaving a gap. My suggestion, if possible light up the inside - every light. Get under the trailer and seal every spot that shows light. I use a product I pickup at Home Depot. It is expandable foam. If while you are under there you see any little holes in the insulation - that could be the place also. Good luck.

RE: 2011 Shadow Cruiser Axles

You axle rating will be printed on a label that is attached directly to the axle tubes. You probably have 3500lb axles if your axle weight is 5125lbs. Thank you I will check this weekend. But after reading these comments, if the axels are 5125 lbs then why would 3500 lb axels be installed? If so, is this safe? Should I get them replaced?

RE: 2011 Shadow Cruiser Axles

I am also a Shadow Cruiser owner - 2012 285RLS. Without taking it to the dealer how exactly can the average person check and verify they have the 3500 or 5000 lb axels? Is this in the owners manual somewhere? Is it engraved on the axel? Please be specific - not real mechanical when it comes to this stuff. I am still under warrenty and have not noticed any unusual wear yet....thank you. OK I just went on the Cruiser RV website and looked at the specs for my trailer; it specifically says "Axel weight - 5125 lbs". Do I imply from this that I have the correct axels?

RE: Plans for Labor Day?

We're trying a Corp campground on Lake Lanier, Van Pugh South Campground, north of Atlanta, for the first time. We will also be at a campground on Lake Lanier - Duckett Mill. Went there earlier in the summer and it had to be, in my opinion, the cleanest, quietest campground I have ever been to. Remarkable. Larger private sites. We have a campsite on the lake and will have easy access to put in our kayaks for at least an afternoon of fun. Duckett Mill is also a Federal Campground. Check it out if you can sometime.

RE: TV reception

The guy next to me is getting a channel or two because I can see his tv on through his window. So make a game out of it...Watch TV through the neighbors window and make up new dialogue! Of course you got to be quick in looking the other way when your neighbors look over at your TT. Or....Be bold....set up a couple of chairs on that side of the TT and ask the neighbor if he wouldn't mind running the sound through outside speakers. Read a book....go for a hike.....take a nap with the spouse....hmmm?

RE: Need To Vent....

That's why many salesmen don't really take phone sales seriously I suppose. The trailer MAY have BEEN available an hour ago (nobody has signed a contract or placed a deposit on it) and in that hour it was purchased. It COULD have just been an error but could just as easily have changed status in that hour. When we purchased our trailer we had done all the research, and knew exactly what we wanted and were willing to pay. We drove to the dealer that was closest that had one. Walked in walked through it, offered what I was willing to pay, 10 minutes later I was signing papers and they were taking it in to get cleaned up for delivery. Totally possible it just sold in that amount of time. So what you are saying is "Money Talks and BullS--t Walks"? That is exactly how ALL salesmen see it. Good luck with your search.

RE: New with first question

Wait. You pulled a 27 ft TT with the Dodge dakota? Really? I had a Dakota and pulled my PUP. It had trouble just backing it up in the drive way. Wow, that was one helluva Dakota. I would have never tried it with t full size TT. You da man!

RE: Driving Advice

Know your trailer height and pay attention to those yellow height signs when going under an overpass. Make sure you're below that. Not sure if the gas stations near you vacuums the vapors while filling. I would turn off the refrigerator when gassing up. When the frig is on propane, you do have an open flame back there. I agree about knowing your trailer height! The only true height is the one you measure yourself. Brochures vary in this area. I also was concerned about low clearances. If you have a Tom-Tom or Garmin GPS you shouold check out this link. I previously posted about it before, but, essentially, the POI Download saved our new TT. http://www.lowclearances.com/amember/go.php?r=1827&i=l0">LowClearances.com

RE: My First Modifications

My latest modification. Installed a 15 Amp inlet dedicated to the DW for her hair dryer. Outlet installed inside the bathroom cabinet. RE: Wasps/bees in roof AC: controlling same....?

I have been told to put a large piece of a flee collar and a bay leaf in the areas where wasp/bees may build a home. We were also told this during our walk-thru. So we purchased a couple of fea collars and placed them inside the fridge access door (outside not inside the fridge, of course) and the hot water heater door. I did not even think about the openings on top...duh. We store in a storage facility on concrete. The old POS TT next to mine has wasps all over it and in it. Never been moved in all the months I've stored there. I think I might add this to the AC also.

RE: Home Sweet Home

I think that there is a NASCAR fan....OOOOhhhhhh yes I did! I said it. Probably has a tapped keg and a 50" Plasma mounted inside. He just ran out to cash his unemployment check in Walmart. Let the retribution reign! I can take it.

RE: Sewer tote

I found a 15 gallaon Tote N Store on ebay classified for $25. It works great. I only tote gray water. Its just me and my wife so even though she always insists I'm full of crap, we really don't come close to worring about our black tank needing dumping. I make maybe one or two trips over a weekend; enjoy a long shower when I want one. I clean it well each time and it stores perfectly in the storage compartment. Good purchase. As someone already stated, it's not work if your still camping.

RE: Sewer tote

Even the smallest ones, around 15 gallons, can be quite heavy. They are designed to hook up to your hitch for towing to the dump station. It doesn't sound like you will have a dump station, so the best bet would be to leave in the back of the TV. Problem is, stuff doesn't flow uphill to well. I guess I'm not sure of your entire setup where you are going, but I think bigger may be more trouble. Eventually you are going to have to move and dump it.

RE: Refirgerator propane consuption

Ive been intrigued by this idea. So in your opinion (anyone) do the dometic fidges work better off propane or electric? I have been using gas initially when setting up, then switching to electric, It just seems to cool down faster on start up using gas. Am I just imagining this or is there some truth to it? Which is better while out for the normal 3-day trip? Thank you in advance.
