RE: Replace Ceiling Vent Fans? How to Clean?

As long as it is a standard sized vent most of the vent fans currently available will readily fit. I installed a couple of vent fans in our 2008 rig and never had any issues with leaks. Screens pop right off for cleaning and just single screw holds the fan blade in place making it easy to remove and clean. We use whatever degreaser the DW has in the cabinet and within a few minutes all is clean including the fan housing.

RE: Toilet clogging up

Ours drops straight down when flushed but some rigs are plumbed differently. Can you be more specific about what exactly is happening. Even with a restricted vent as long as toilet flapper is held wide open stool will still drop unless there is some kind of obstruction. Run a toilet snake down the hole and see if it reaches your black tank.

RE: fridge

We set our fridge to Auto mode so it's running off propane (our unit cools better in this mode) anytime we're not plugged into shore power. Our only precaution Is to turn off fridge while refueling. To run directly off battery power while driving your fridge would need a 12VDC mode. Many have reported that contents will stay cold for some time with fridge off. I've never tried it but if your trip is just a couple off hours away, you would probably be OK if you have concerns about running in propane mode while traveling down the road. Have a great trip!!!

RE: Vehicle tire pressure

Our tow vehicle LT tires are loaded according to the weight they will carry and our TT ST tires are filled to max stated on sidewall since ST tires perform and disperse heat better when at max pressure. Although China bomb ST tires are not manufactured to the highest standards, many of their failures are caused by under inflation and overloading. I was able to get 3 seasons and over 20K miles on our stock China bomb tires before replacing them with Maxxis ST tires.

RE: Running AC off of my home's current/Please Respond

I hope you didn't lose any close friends since the answer can be YES or NO as stated by Smkettner. The variables are what size AC unit and it's amperage draw, the rated amperage of the household outlet to be used, and the length and gauge of the cord you intend to use. The best way to eliminate any safety and/or equipment failure issues is to have a dedicated 30 amp outlet installed where you can use your rig's shore power cord, especially if you plan to do this often. I have plugged my high efficiency 13.5K AC (draws just under 10 amps) unit into a 15 amp household outlet and it ran fine but voltage dropped to 108 VAC which is close enough for me to not want to do this often or for any extended length of time. Voltage drop would have been less significant if I was using our rig's shore power but it doesn't reach thereby requiring the use of a 50' extension cord. If your rig has an onboard generator it can be used for this purpose, plus it will give the genny some exercise.

RE: Why is my converter is cooking my battery?

Battery is toast at this point and should be replaced immediately as converter can suffer a premature death attempting to keep bad battery charged.

RE: RV Net Forums & Other Forums

There are many similarities among the RV classifications anyway so reading Newest is where I spend the majority of my time aboard this forum. Due to time constraints, RV.net is about the only forum that I return to on a continual basis.

RE: Searching For A TV/DVD Combo

Most of the major brands will have a couple of TV/DVD combo units in their product line-up, we have a 26" Sharp in TT bedroom that draws around 40 watts making it an easy draw on our battery bank. Audio from most any flat panel will rarely match anything resembling true theater sound and depth, we have a small sound bar in the bedroom and a Bose system in the living area that helps to satisfy higher end audio requirements.

RE: Is a generator necessary?

No, it is not a requirement, but we prefer to dry camp and boondock, so for us a generator is a necessity. We can pretty much run most 120 VAC items (as needed) through our onboard MSW or PSW inverters for a couple of days with our current battery bank, but with the genny replenishing our 12 VDC reserves, it becomes a non-issue. We didn't buy a RV to not be able to utilize the creature comforts it provides by scrimping on energy usage, could of just stayed with tent camping if that was the case. We run our genny mostly to supply power to our high current draw items that we may use for an hour or two a day, all the while our Iota IQ4 quickly returns lost capacity from our taxing 12 VDC requirements when camping off the grid. To point, yes is the answer for if a genny is needed.

RE: x-chock Tire Locking Chock

We have Bal Deluxe locking chocks, an earlier version of the X-Chocks and they do a good job of reducing back and forth movement when moving about inside your rig. When properly installed, they will keep your rig from moving if you are parked on a relatively level sight. For significantly un-level sites, best to also use some plastic chocks in addition to the X-chocks for added safety. There are other similar options available that are both higher and lower priced, many have made their own as well saving big $$$. We also deploy Bal scissor and stab jacks along with our chocks making our rig a pretty solid stance when all said and done.

RE: Boondocking at Walmart

We have overnighted a few times at a Walmart when driving late into the night and just wanted to get a few hours of sleep. Hard to call it boondocking when trying to catch a few winks in a Walmart parking lot, dry camping might be a better word, but it really doesn't fit either as it is not camping in any way, shape, or form. Under similar circumstances, we have also stayed at truck stops, casinos, churches, and rest stops in order to get some sleep and get an early start.

RE: Who here cooks inside camper or Outside camper?

Although I cook outside frequently using both our Weber Q and Coleman stove, we also utilize our onboard galley's stove and convection microwave. We have a couple of high powered vents and have cooked virtually every type of meal and have no lingering odors. Our camper is parked in our backyard and always vented eliminating whatever residual odors that may still linger after extended camping trips.

RE: Why do I not have power?

Adding an inverter to your rig is not too difficult. Need to figure out the total wattage of all the items you want to power at the same time and get an inverter that is rated a bit higher. I have a 350 watt inverter installed in our entertainment center and it easily runs our 32" flatpanel tv, HD satellite receiver/dish, our DVD player, video game player and Bose system.

RE: "V" Nose Trailer Make Any Difference???

Congrats on the new rig purchase, you bought it for the right reasons. I've seen video where a V-nose unit was towed by the same truck compared to a similar sized/weight rig and according to the results, less gas was used towing the V-nose but it wasn't anything significant. Happy camping in your new Flagstaff!!!

RE: Tires: Maxxis Not Available. Plan B?

We heard the same thing from one of our local Discount Tire dealers, they tried to push their higher profit margin junk on us but we wouldn't bite. Went online to DiscountTireDirect.com and ordered them. They were delivered to my front door via UPS in a 3 days for free. Loaded them up and took our rig to the nearest Discount Tire and had them balanced, warrantied, and installed.

RE: Is it safe to use normal garden hose for water??

We drank hundreds of gallons of water from the garden hose growing up in Phoenix and my DW and I are still here today. That being said, we have a couple of white RV freshwater hoses that we use when camping. I have in the past used our garden hose to fill our freshwater tank if I didn't want to lug out our RV water hose but we have a dual canister filter system under our galley sink that effectively removes any hose aftertaste.
