RE: Overnight in Santa Rosa, NM

Not many options in Santa Rosa but we have stayed at the state park there at the lake and it was nice.

RE: Weber Q question. Does size matter?

We have both sizes and no doubt the Q200 series is the better performer when cooking for large crowds. That being said, we most often take the Q120 with us camping as it is usually just six of us total and the smaller Weber does the job nicely.

RE: Replacement RV microwave

Don't know anything about the LP appliance you were asking about, but if you do a lot of drycamping and boondocking, getting a Yamaha or Honda 2K inverter genny would be a good investment for the cause. They would keep your batteries charged up and run most high draw items including conventional microwaves.

RE: Electric Tongue Jack. 4500 lb or 3000 lb

For $30 more, overkill is the way I would go.

RE: Spin off: take LCD TV off wall when traveling?

Try it both ways as either will work. As for Jensen products in general, most engineers and technicians consider them low end. Sometimes we leave our flatpanels attached and other times when doing some serious boondocking traveling over very rough terrain, we may elect to detach them from their swing arm mounts.

RE: LED Light supplier

We did a full interior and partial exterior LED conversion using lights purchased from Ebay and truck stop stores. Truck stop prices were about $20 a bulb where the LEDs from Ebay were around $4 each. LEDs from truck stop stated made in China on the package, and the LEDs from Ebay were of same origin. Starting our 3rd season since the conversion, not a single LED on any of the nearly 30 lamp assemblies has failed, running so much cooler while using a fraction of the power. It felt like we doubled our battery bank, we camp off the grid often and the difference is significant. Be aware that the quality can vary dramatically between Ebay stores, reading past posts on LEDs may have current recommendations on where to purchase, I did the same before our conversion. I have performed many mods on our rig and LED conversion ranks up there as one of my favorites.

RE: Need or want?

We prefer boondocking & drycamping, love camping in county, state, national, and federal parks as well. Private parks are a last resort, but whether we have hook-ups or not, our camper is set-up with the capabilities to use all our rig's amenities thanks to our inverter, battery bank, and generator. Don't give much thought to why people prefer the way they like to camp as this great country allows everybody the freedom to do it there way.

RE: Selling fifth wheel

Not sure NADA values are current in today's market, search your brand, model, and year across the web and check prices. Adjust accordingly as prices can vary widely. I think we all have a tendency to over-value our major possessions, with all the info on the internet, buyers have become quite savvy at getting a good deal. Good Luck!!!

RE: Conversion to Direct TV HD

Used the round 18" Directv dish for years on a homemeade stand with a spare bedroom receiver with no problems. When I wanted HDTV in our rig, we just bought a slimline 5 sat dish online and took an older Directv HDTV sat receiver from the house and currently have all the same channels on the road as we do at home. Put the larger and heavier hdtv sat dish on the same homemade stand and it takes not a bit longer (about 5 minutes) to dial in all 5 satellites as long as you have the settings correct and the stand level. We get locals across most of the state, but other than watching for local weather, rarely do we watch major network stations.

RE: Onan Genset failure. What are my options.

Maybe get a second opinion as the price appears rather high. There are a couple of routes you can take, but you have to decide if you want to go with portables or stay with an onboard genny. Additionally, need to find out the total wattage of the devices you want to run at the same time in order to get a genny with a bit higher wattage rating. If planning to run AC unit, a 3K genny would be needed. A 4K unit will run most everything in a 30 amp rig at the same time. 5.5K and above if planning to run a couple of ACs plus microwave or other high draw item. If not planning on running any AC units, a 2K portable red or blue genny would be a good choice.

RE: Fresh water tank etiquette

I see no reason why you wouldn't be able to fill up at the campground if water is available, I know I wouldn't hesitate if I needed to refill my freshwater tanks and paid the appropiate nightly fee. That being said, we prefer to fill our FW tank with city water from home and haul it with us as we have had trouble with poor water quality at some campgrounds.

RE: Bluewater Lake State prark

Nice state park and the 2 lane road to it is not difficult to negotiate. Older state park where it can be tight for bigger rigs, best view sites are without hookups, best time is during the week as it can get busy on weekends. Enjoy camping at Bluewater and hope all goes well with your camphosting gig in Winslow.

RE: Backing up...

Same principles but easier since there is less reaction from steering wheel movement with longer TTs. Just practice a few times to get the hang of it. We never towed anything as long as our current 32' TT, but it didn't take much time to master the technique. Happy camping in your Jayco Jayflight.

RE: Trouble with Ventline tank monitor panel

My monitor panel will indicate tank and charge levels with lit LEDs only when test switch is pushed, otherwise the LEDs remain unlit. With empty tanks, only the empty LED light should be lit, all battery charge LEDs will be lit if you are plugged into shore power.

RE: campgrounds to stay away from?

What I think might be a good or bad campground could be the opposite experience for another RVer since we all have different tastes and camping requirements. We just look at RvParkReviews.com when we are searching for a campground in an unfamiliar area. There you will read about the good, bad, and ugly campgrounds and by simply clicking on the map, a satellite shot will show the layout and neighborhood it resides in. If all looks good, we both call the campground in question and talk to the staff to get a feel for the general attitude of the place. No matter how much research or recommendations you get about a particular park, that's no guarantee your stay will be what you expected as your experience may differ dramatically. That's one of the reasons that we don't always reserve ahead of time if we can help it.

RE: fuel economy

I've towed both ways and don't see much of a difference. As stated above, I don't fret about mpg when towing, just add gas when we hit about 1/4 tank.

RE: One arm and the TV cable hook-up

I use them as well, readily available at the locations mentioned above.

RE: Power tongue jack?

Barker and Atwood have a good following here on the forum, but there are other brands that will do the job as well. Prices can vary widely, shop the internet and you should be able to get a fairly decent deal. For TT owners, this is a favorite mod, get a powered tongue jack as the DW will truly appreciate the convenience.
