RE: Visiting Yellowstone NP, Late Luly

"Not that it matters, but I think the town is Jackson, Wyoming, not Jackson Hole. Jackson Hole is the nearby resort. (I once had a Jackson resident scold me for using the incorrect term. I guess it matters to some people after all." The valley itself is referred to as "Jackson's Hole" and the town is the town of "Jackson". If the man was a resident...he hadnt lived there very long! The nearby Lodges have their own "handle" such as Snow King...etc...etc. The hole was named after Davy Jackson a mountain man of many decades ago and a hole was a valley "usually" when the mountain men could "hold up" for the winter and it supplied them shelter and game animals.

RE: Visiting Yellowstone NP, Late Luly

Forget Jackson Hole and spend another day in Yellowstone. Search this Forum for Yellowstone and read on. As much as we love Yellowstone there's no comparison for one more day in Yellowstone vs. going to Grand Teton Nat'l Park for a day or hopefully longer. They are both completely different in looks and the hiking is much better in the Tetons. Being right next to each other, definitely does pass up the Tetons. Now, if referring to the town of Jackson, yes - you can skip that! :) The town of Jackson is just like any other tourist town. Has its share of junk shops; its share of fine places to eat and its share of other types of shops (Jack Dennis fly fishing and Tom Mangleson's photo studio) as any other town has. 1 day to see the WHOLE town...and 1 day to view the valley itself.

RE: Visiting Yellowstone NP, Late Luly

When seeing YNP...stay at the Grizzly in West Yellowstone. BY FAR the best CG around. When in Cody, WY...stay at the Ponderosa park, which is a great cg on that side of YNP and besides it belongs to a sister-in-law to one of our RV buddies right here on the BB. Its only a LONG block away from the Buffalo Bill museum ( which is really 5 museums in 1... Buffalo Bill; Whitney art gallery of western Art; Museum of the American plains Indians..and the Winchester Gun Collection...of which I was told they only have room to display 5500 guns of a 7000+ collection at one time...????)

RE: Class A in this campground is to big with toad...

Would it not of been easier to just unhook the toad and then drive MH to site??? X2. I always disconnect my dinghy at check-in, and my DW drives it to the site. Unless I can see the clear pathway to our site...thats exactly what the wife and I do

RE: Class A in this campground is to big with toad...

A campground, generally, is private property, and the owners or their agents have every right to make certain requests of their customers. They've seen it all, believe me, and their job isn't to intuit what a great driver you are, it is to protect their property and that of their clients. I think Huffmeister's reply above says it all about their responsibility to protect your RV: I went to a campground in Rapid City some years back. The check-in guy said he would go back and guide us in. I told him my wife was more than capable of directing me. He said he was required to do the guiding to make certain there would be no problems. So, I followed his 'precise' directions and even after pointing out where a potential problem existed, he told me he had been doing this for a long time and had never had a problem. So, to make a long story short, his 'directions' led me to a place where a post (marker) scraped the side of my rig to the tune of ~$3-5000. When I asked for their insurance info, I was told it was my responsibility. It sure sounds like if its anyway but your way you want to argue over it. You that pleasant when actually camping?

RE: Class A in this campground is to big with toad...

Congratulations on NOT driving beyond your abilities. Most people on this forum only put a few thousand miles on their coaches and do not like to take any chances whatsoever. There are many that will not drive over certain bridges, will not go through certain tunnels, and will not drive through certain big cities, because of traffic. You obviously know your abilities, and your coach's maneuverability enough to know when you can and cannot fit into a place. The PROOF is in the outcome, not a bunch of opinions. For that you are to be commended. The more I travel around the country, the more people that I see that have no idea how to maneuver their coaches around in tight quarters. I am sure that the park owner was making his recommendations based on SOME of the RV owners that he has seen come in to his park, that do not know how to drive their rig with any confidence. I guess we know where you stand on RVing and the avg RV operator. Im sure others along with myself appreciate he verbal SLAM that we cant drive / cant operate our coaches.

RE: Looking for suggestions on a Diesel Pusher

Try a Country Coach. 32 and 33 ft lengths and scads of 36ft models.

RE: Class A in this campground is to big with toad...

I wouldnt own a coach that was that difficult to get around....Hence my 36ft CC is easier to operate than my 33ft Southwind ever was

RE: How old is too old?

We're looking to buy a used motorhome (our first.) I'm leaning toward an older higher-end MH, such as Newmar, in order to get the features we would like within our budget. I would like the MH we buy to last for 10 years and be reliable if we give it good care. I don't mind doing the simple maintenance items and repairs, but I'm not looking for MH renovation to become a hobby. I will probably hire all significant work done. Right now, I have a reasonably good comfort level with buying a 10 or 12 year old Newmar or equivalent MH that has been cared for and is in good condition. I feel that it should last another 10 years without maintenance issues becoming enough of a problem to cause me to sell it. Is this a reasonable expectation? How old is too old before it figures to become too much of a pain in the backside? Thanks. Wayne I have a 13 yr old Country Coach and there aint a thing wrong with it...!

RE: Beware of Flying J

We are 1/3 of the way through a 7500 mile X country trip. I have used FJ exclusively and have had no problems until yesterday. At exit 95 on I 65 south of Indianapolis, IN, the diesel sign indicated $3.89 9/10 (cash) and with my Good Sam Reward card I thought I would be paying $3.83 9/10 to fill my DSDP, HA!!! I failed to look at the price at the pump at the RV island, and when I was finished, saw that I was being charged $4.14 9/10 per gal. This is over 30 cents per gal., or in my purchase, $22.00 more. When I complained, I was told that if I checked the price listed on the interstate sign, I would see that it said "tax exempt trucks only". They were right, and you could see it if you had strong binoculars. I have always paid the price which was shown on the hi way sign so this is a new gimmick. I don't know if this is exclusively in IN or if this is going to be nationwide. Has anyone else experienced this? Its been that way for over a decade. Its not FJ's fault that you dont read the fine print

RE: Water leak from area behind Frig

I repaired my ice maker line myself twice. Had it replaced when they pull the fridge to change the cooling unit. I replaced that garbage plastic line to my own twice...finally the 3rd time did it in copper!!
