RE: 1972 Amerigo Camper Rebuild

What do you guys think about adding modern corner jacks to our campers? I have bought a dually and have come across a dually setup for the front for $200. I know I'd have to figure out the fiberglass thing, but I have most of the interior striped so anchoring them on the inside is not a problem.
If I had some, Id install them, the 3 crank jacks will make you old before your time lol

RE: 1972 Amerigo Camper Rebuild

I know the feeling, I am so ready to get mine finished also, weathers looking good, started working again so I'll have money to spend. Only catch is I am in the process of buying a new home so its gonna be mid summer before I can get back on it.

RE: 1972 Amerigo Camper Rebuild

Has anyone installed a new rubber seal around the big overhead window? Mine leaks pretty bad and is cracking.
Thanx
Jeremy
I've thought about it, but actually it scares me to death. Can you even get a replacement for it?. Im thinking clear silicon caulk untill it gets bad enough.

RE: Anyone else get this

I dont know about the forum rules, but with me being in the lawn maint business I have participated in stuff like this. received the free use of two very nice commercial grade mowers for a season, then had the write an eval and was publishing in a trade mag. Manufacturers do this stuff alot.

RE: Hey From a newbie

doing well Carey, been out to the camper planning and plotting but not much work done lately. I have notice I need to replace a couple of pieces of wood where ground water and dirt has splashed up on it and started to taint the wood. I'm not really far from starting the cab over, Im actually dreading that.

RE: 1972 Amerigo Camper Rebuild

First I have to figure out how to clean the roof. Mine has mold, mildew and even lichen growing on it in spots. I tried to wash it off the cabover right after I bought it. but the small lichen spots still show. The only place I've got them off is where I scraped the areas to be patched with a razor blade. I sure hope I don't have to do the whole roof that way, but if that's what it takes... I noticed from Sweet Tater's post, he's having the same problem. If anyone has a solution I'd sure like to hear it. Scotch Brite pads and Comet powder might work, I haven't tried that yet. BTW - Does anyone's spell check on this forum work? I don't think mine ever has.
Im gonna try to get on a ladder and presure wash the daylights out of it in the spring. only other thing I can think of is get it as clean as you can with bleach to kill mold and stuff and paint a base coat with kills. oh and yes my spell check works, I just ignore it more of the time.

RE: Hey From a newbie

Couple of comments here,
1ST, I'm sure a good lesson will be learned from this. Good or bad, or what the lesson will be at all but I know a lesson will be learned.
2ND, Have Fun, take your time, remember 2 things; Patience is a virtue
& Perseverance Furthers.
Look up Mountainkowboy in the TC Fourm. His thread on a rebuild of an S&S TC will be what you are doing now. Again, take your time, have fun with it and look at his finished product. What you can do yourself with this TC. What a project. :C
Oh yeah, get a good Diamond Plate connection. You will probably use some. If you follow the S&S Rebuild.
lol, looking back at old posts, I think I learned that lesson, Im to old for this much fun lol

RE: Nat Geo Doomsday Preppers truck camper

I guess I am too much of an optimist to be a doomsday prepper.
Over a dozen times in my short life, different folks have predicted the end of the world, including a famous preacher.
Guess what? We are still here.
If the world should end in my lifetime, I'm not even sure I would want to survive in what is left. JMHO

Jeremy, you can link them from fb to Rv.net, only problem if you cancel fb then they will disappear from rv.net, or you can upload them to photobucket.com and link them here. it works good and is easy.

RE: Hey From a newbie

mm the memories, lol, looks just like mine, is it a '70? even the fiberglass looks the same mildew color as mine, how did you get it clean, bleach and scrubbing isn't working.
Its a 73. The floor plan is different. My Propane and fridge are at the front of the camper dinette. Basic build is all the same though. I soon hope to get back on it and get a lot more camping in this summer. New to me truck coming that can haul the whole family, and so many things to see. LOL Lots of time and a pressure washer got it clean. It came off very easily and makes a world of difference in looks.
Your build looks great. What are you using for outer skin? I was also thinking of going smooth side but decided to keep the classic look of the aluminum.
I seem to have found an odd one, every one Ive seen has the front frig, mine was next to the door. It hasnt been warm enough here to mess with the presure washer but will try in the spring. I am using 1/4 plywood sealed with epoxy, I dont expect to keep this for very long and will probably end up as a hunting blind in a few years. I am using it for a starter camper to see how it goes then I will sell it and get a newer one that I dont have to build myself. I've already determined that as much fun as I am having building this I dont think I can handle that much fun again :)

RE: Hey From a newbie

Wow!! I'm loving it. I am also in the process of restoring an Amerigo. I have been through many ideas on what to keep and what to change. Finally settled on a mild restomod keeping the classic styling and adding several modern conveniences.
I have rebuilt both of the wings. Doubled layered the plywood on the horizontal surface for added strength. rebuilt the floor framing with 2X2 steel tubing, 2" hard core foam insulation, 5/8 flooring, and a luan underside cover. Custom built a set of frame mounts for my super campers for secure mounting and added the fourth jack for stability. Had a commercial air conditioning business build me a new galvanized propane box, and going to have a local company build me new rubber LP lines to plumb the appliances. It's all been together for a year now and have had no issues.
Attacking the overhead next.
sounds really nice, theres about 5 I think and now you make 6 that have Amerigos. you should post some pics, we can all learn from each other and get some ideas maybe we havent hought of.

RE: Flying truck campers?

I wonder if in the future when we finally have the flying cars, will we also have flying truck campers? It would be awesome to be able to just sit down on a mountain top somewhere. We could have some very exclusive campgrounds. As no other kinds of campers would be able to fly with their rigs.
One of our most entertaining members already did this.
that looks more like a sea going vessel or maybe a submersible model, for those that really want to get away from the traffic

RE: The story of Bear...and his eulogy

Wazoo, my heart aches for you as only a fellow dog lover can ache, thro tears I pray for you for comfort. Its the cast away dogs (mine was too) that seem to capture our hearts as like you said its a mutual thing that we choose each other. As the days go by the hurt will lessen but the memories will never fade. Bear is in doggy heaven now and no longer in pain. Just thing he is waiting for you at heavens gates now, wagging his tail and waiting for you..... and smiling :)
