RE: From tent to PUP to HTT to tent

I think you might be glad you kept the camper. We went from tent, to pop up, to tt, and now back to tent. Bought a Eureka copper canyon 10, but haven't used it yet. We just got back from Arkansas and stayed in a KOA cabin. It was nice having the a/c but dang it was bit of a pain. It made me miss out tt. Having everything already packed in it. Plus, the beds were terrible!! We ended up buying air mattresses to put on the beds. Which we hated doing because we already had them at home.

RE: tent camping in Arkansas

I've been to Albert Pike (well we stayed up the road at Bard Springs) in early June. It was hot but, not unbearable. I don't know about now. I have a feeling you might be a little warm at night. There isn't any potable water supply at Bard Springs but, they have a nice swimming hole and you could ride right from the campground. There's also Blanchard Springs further north, great swimming and 4 wheel trails nearby. There is another campground near there that seemed to be a base for wheelers (can't remember the name we hiked there) and it's also on the river.
Thanks for the info on those camping places. I am going to look them up and see what I can find out about them.

RE: tent camping in Arkansas

Well, we went this last weekend but ended up renting a cabin (really a double wide). We rode the 4 wheelers at wolf pen. We did ride to Albert Pike and check out the camping. It is a really nice camp ground. We might wait and go back when it is a little cooler and we can tent camp.

RE: tent pads/tarps

Measure your tent or know the dimensions. Then measure out your tarp and mark with permanent markers where to fold the crease down. Next time you will not have to do again.
That is a great idea! THanks for sharing!

tent camping in Arkansas

We want to go to Arkansas in a couple of weeks and take our 4 wheelers and camp in our tent. I'm just wondering if it would be too hot. I live in Louisiana I know its too hot here just wondering if it would be a little cooler there. Wanting to go to Alberts Pike. Swim in the heat of the day and ride in the early morning and evenings. Anyone from here or have camped here in the summer?

RE: tent pads/tarps

Thanks everyone. We just got a tarp from Wal-mart. We will have to fold one side in some.

RE: Dealing With The Heat

I was also wondering about when people use a/c for their tent. We just got a new copper canyon 10 and I don't want to be putting duct tape on it and I don't want to cut the mesh on the windows. I guess we could put it in the door? But, just don't see how to close the door around the unit. I wish they made tents with a spot for an a/c. LOL

I did look at amazon for a correct size ground cover but they didn't get good reviews.
Thanks so much for the help.

tent pads/tarps

I read where you need a little bit of a smaller pad than your tent floor. I cant find a tarp that size. Tent is 10x10 so need a 9x9. What do ya'll use? Just a tarp and fold it to fit?

Got our tent

Well, we finally got a tent. Got a Eureka Copper 10. We just put it up in the yard to make sure all the pieces were there and to put on some seam sealer.
I haven't tent camped in years. We went from tent to pop up to tt now back to tent. Now we have 4 wheelers.

I saw on the tv the other where the teflon stuff is getting in our water systems. I so still use it but also use my cast iron skillet. I would like a cast iron pot. They are so dang expensive.

RE: deer meat question

Thanks for all the replies. Yes, he killed it, LOL its not road kill. He has hunted for years and we do all the processing oursleves. We had just heard this and didn't know if it was true or not. Dh said he heard it wasn't with the cooked meat it was with the jerky because it doesn't get hot enough to kill parasites. But, anyway...thanks again! I can't wait to make some.
