RE: RV Retirement in Mexico

Google The Adventures of Tioga and George. Then go back to his previous posts. He has been living in Mexico for the last two years. George is in Mexico in the winter. I think he returns to the US in the summer. He kind of follows the nice weather. Opps, didn't read far enough, didn't know George was on here. He can tell you what he does :-). I thought you were only allowed to stay in Mexico for a certain period before you had to return to the US?

RE: State Farm Insurance Now Covers Part Of Mexico

Perhaps you should post this in the RVing Mexico and South America forum for better results.

RGV - Spanish lessons

Has anyone heard about a place there in the RGV that teaches Spanish. I would love to learn to speak Spanish, although we won't have time this year, perhaps next year we'll come down earlier and I would like to check out possible places on our short trip this year. Thanks.

RE: Activities, Attractions, Dining, Rio Grande Valley TX 09-10

For you "Newbies" to the Valley here's a "stolen pix" from earlier in the thread! http://images.onset.freedom.com/monitortx/k0hfgc-042208gonzalezburgerweb.jpg height=300 width=300 See ya Monday at 10:30! Why do we keep hearing that these are so good? They look kind of flat and greasy to me. Guess we'll have to try them when we get down there in February and see for ourselves. I am from Missouri and you do have to show me :-).

RE: Planning Florida Trip

I'm in Fort Desoto right now (128) and the park is not even half full, don't understand it, took us 6 months to get this spot. Do people reserve and pay up front and not show? If you check on-line all sites are booked. Ron W. I had thought about going to Florida, but when tried to reserve a state park campsite they were all full as stated. Decided to go to Texas because of costs and frustrations.

RE: Converter swap ??

I switched out my converter a few years ago and added a charge wizard. This is the page I used as a reference. Converter redo This was a link from Netboy's converter redo.

RE: Zion National Park; where to stay?

If your going to Zion, stay at Watchman campground if possible! It is way less money than staying outside the park and you will be close to the shuttle. Make sure you go for Watchman, as there are only two campgrounds in the park and it is the only one with any hook up's, water and electricity. You may want to make reservations. I was there in April and only stayed one night in Watchman because they were booked the rest of the time. I can't even remember the name of the other campground but it is nice as well, and it didn't matter whether I had hookups or not since I had my truck camper. I would recommend the campgrounds in the park but like I said they are popular and you will need to get there early to secure a spot or make reservations.

RE: Forest Service 50% off for Old Folks May Be Abolished

I wouldn't mind paying a little more if it benefited the forest service. I don't want to pay more to help out concessionaires. I have never been very impressed with the job they do at the forest service campgrounds. It seems that forest service campgrounds maintained and run by the forest service themselves are much cleaner and better maintained. Just my opinion.

RE: What about the cars you leave at home?

We left our Honda in the garage for 6 months when we went to Alaska 3 years ago. The battery went dead and I had to replace it when I got back. I would advise just taking the battery out while you are gone. We didn't put anything in the fuel and it seemed to be fine. Have fun.

RE: So who's in the Snowbird class of 09/10

You probably can't really call us snowbirds since we aren't heading south until mid February. Figured I'd get income taxes done and then we'd head on down to San Antonio and the RGV to check things out for our first time. We're curious as to whether it is that much warmer down there in February than it is here in Missouri :-). We're just planning on six weeks. Will come back up gulf coast to about Baton Rouge and come up the Natchez Trace the end of March hopefully.

RE: Privtae Campgrounds near San Antonio, TX ?

We stayed at Stonecreek its maybe 20 mins at most to Alamo. Braunig is maybe 15 mins to Alamo. Of the two I prefered Braunig Lake. but then we were southbound out of SA to the RGV. Farther out as well as posters stated there are maybe 20 good parks within 40 miles of San Antonio. I found if you pick a city/town enter the name and type Rv parks after it they list most parks in that area. Then you can do a check under rvparkreviews.. Is this Braunig Lake you mentioned the RV resort or the utility run park. Here is the link to the RV resort: Braunig Lake RV Resort Here is the link to the lake campground (San Antonio River Autority): Braunig Lake (San Antonio River Authority) I was just wondering which one is closer to San Antonio sites, i.e. river walk, Alamo, etc.

RE: Misson TX

I can't give you any first hand advice since we are going down for the first time ourselves this winter (Feb. and Mar.), but someone did post a nifty website the other day that might help you. Just select the city (in this case Mission) and click go and it will list the RV parks in that locale. Hope you have a great time down there. Here is the sight. Winter Texans Larry

RE: First Time to the Valley

As a fellow newbie to the RGV I found this website handy. Click on a city and a list of RV parks with websites will pop up. I'm sure there are many more, but at least it's a good start, and will give you an idea about rates. Convienent site. Thank you. Larry

Our first trip to RGV this winter

This winter will be our first trip to RGV. We're not sure of what all is down there. We love gardens and nature centers. Are there any such creatures that we should see while we are down there. I've done a web search but thought perhaps personal experience from those of you who have been there would be more valuable. Thanks, Larry

Rio Grande Valley in February

We won't be heading south until February. Plan on heading down the Mississippi to Baton Rouge and then down to Abbesville area and a long the coast to the Rio Grande Valley area. Suggestions on what to see on the way down and where to stay would be appreciated. Will there be any problem with finding campsites in February and March in these areas? Thanks for any information you can provide.

RE: When to winterize? Weekend low temps likely below freezing.

I would in the least drain the hot water heater, and put in by-pass, that is real costly to replace. What do you mean by "put in by-pass"? What / where is the water heater by-pass? Bob, You should have a by-pass valve for your water heater so it can be drained and cut-off from your water supply in the winter. Mine is accessed through a small door under my bathroom sink. It is pretty obvious which valve does this by looking at it. I imagine your unit is equiped much the same. Hope this helps. Larry
