RE: Outback 250RS

Some slide motors make a ratchet sound which prevents the system from causing damage to the motor or slide.

RE: Not super impressed with Dometic fridge controls

I have the same fridge. Where is the temperature control? The only thing that I can see in my fridge is what looks like a sticker on the inside of the fridge. Is this the control and if so how does it work?

I am waiting to setup at a campground for our first season as seasonals. It's snowing right now, but no accumulation yet.

RE: My outside kichen

I am thinking of using the low point drains for getting the water connections, is that what you did?
What is a low point drain? I want to build one of these!
The low point drain is for winterizing the trailer. You will find two pipe stubs hanging below the bottom of your trailer. If you are lucky they will have a red and blue cap to help differentiate between the cold and hot lines. Remove the caps and add fittings to supply the new sink.

I have been thinking of adding an outdoor sink to my trailer. What material did you use for the countertop? I am thinking of using the low point drains for getting the water connections, is that what you did?

RE: Seasonal Site

We booked a seasonal site this summer as well. We are doing it to allow for more time camping since we can't always get away for an entire weekend. The place is only 20mins from home so we can go weeknights as well. We plan on taking the trailer on trips in the summer as well so one thing to keep in mind is how you setup your trailer for ease of removal if you plan on taking it out at all.

RE: Backing into position to hitch a trailer: (Need tips.)

If you don't have a backup camera you can find a reference point in your tailgate and the jack. When I had my pickup I would have the jack handle pointed straight up which was higher than the tailgate of the truck and I would use it as a point of reference for centering and distance to the hitch. I always hitch alone and this worked great.

RE: Q. on Dutchmen 255 or similar Jayco and Starcraft

I know on my trailer that the return is in the face of the tub skirt in the bathroom. It's basically a slotted rectangular grille.

RE: R-Vision Jack & Jill bunks - weight rating?

Did you lift the mattress to check and see if there is a sticker on the plywood? I know some put the sticker there instead of on the front edge.

RE: Trailer Size with Ford Expedition EL

Something I do when packing for a trip is to put everything possible in the trailer and evenly distribute the weight. 100lbs of gear in the trailer will help the cargo capacity of your Expy better then if it was in the back of the truck. I only have me, the wife, the girls and dog to account for cargo weight in the truck. I keep my chocks and wood blocking in a milk crate that I put inside the trailer. That's almost 50lbs that I don't have to count against cargo weight.

RE: TT on an inclined driveway...

One issue with the incline is the rear a le will be taking most if not all of the load. This could overload the axle or rear tires depending on their ratings.

When turning right remember to look in the mirrors to keep an eye on the trailer tires in relation to the curb or ditch.

RE: Advice needed please!

The GCWR is the combined weight of your Expy and the trailer, you cannot be over this number. The 8900lbs trailer weight is the maximum weight that the trailer can be but you might never be able to get to it based at how heavy your truck is. To give you real numbers as mentioned above, load the Expy as if you were heading out camping and take it to a scale. This will give you the truck weight. Then subtract the weight that you have at the scale from the 15000lbs. This will give you the maximum loaded trailer weight available for the trailer GVWR, you should keep the 80% safety factor.
It can be confusing with all the different weights to take into consideration. I hope I haven't confused you any more.

RE: Advice needed please!

As APT mentioned, that cargo capacity and the hitch capacity are key components as well as trailer weight. I have the EL with a 1380lbs cargo capacity. When I setup for towing to keep me from getting close to the cargo capacity, I put all the luggage in the trailer which doesn't count for weight added to the truck taking away from the cargo capacity. This leaves me with 1380lbs capacity minus the occupants and the dog (about 460lbs). This allows me to have a maximumof 920lbs for tongue weight, so 736lbs available of tongue weight with a 80% safety factor.

RE: Bunkhouse With Better TV Seating (Chairs)?

Jayco makes the 26RKS which is not a bunkhouse model but you can get the bunk option which gives you a sofa and bunks in the slide. From the photos that I have seen, the TV is on the overhead cabinet above the island placing it in front of the couch.

RE: Rear Slide Travel Trailer?

As mentioned above about the dinette under the slide. We have pulled into Walmart parking lots for lunch and just retract the slide (mine is electric) only takes a few seconds. We have the whole dinette then for eating.

RE: Rear Slide Travel Trailer?

I love my rear slide trailer. One issue some will mention is having to crawl over the other person to get out depending on the head of the bed configuration, that has not been an issue for us. The added bonus is that there is space under the slide to store the kids bikes and toys out of the rain.

RE: Adding second A/C to travel trailer - which one?

Jimindenver, you could wrap the exhaust hose with insulation to minimize the heat coming off the pipe and making the unit run better since there wouldn't be the additional heat load in the room.
