Going on Dalton today. I bought a spare tire from Americantire in Faibanks, could have one also at Acton Auto scrapyard, 45.00. I have 18 inch wheels and they are kind of rare. After my first flat tire, I feel a bit more secure with 2 tires.
We fill up water at a water distribution center, as you enter Fairbanks from the Parks Highway, it is on your right. People go there to fill up their containers. Water is very good and it cost .02 cent a gallon.
Fill up propane, 3.77/Gallon, fuel up at Sam Club, 4.41/diesel. Weather forecast for the week in Fairbanks is fantastic and the road should be dry. Enjoy :)

I enjoyed reading your report. We should be leaving for Alaska on 17 June. We had to wait for DD's wedding on 16 June. Hope you continue to have a great trip. hey junmy3, we will be leaving Ga. also same time.. maybe see u up the road sometime.. :)

Agree with joe b.. good advice.. in 09' pulled across with a 35ft Fiver with no problems and will be crossing again with it later in the month. :)

Would advise an extra tire for the Dalton.. we travel with two spare's for Fiver and Truck from lessons learned.. :) This year will be coming up the Campbell Hwy (of course gravel) and will be prepared.. Will have to check out Alpine Lodge.. thanx for the info.

Glad your enjoying it.. We will be on it in July sometime boondocking down by a little lake hopefully.. :) One of our favorite drives.. and dang on the flat tire but has happened to use also on these gravel roads..

We did for 2 yrs and decided I truly didn't want to spend rest of my life in a 35ft Fiver.. came back bought a house and travel during summer and enjoy our home in the winter.. best of both worlds. :)
