RE: Tow ball mount

The maximum out of level is 3 inches. However, some vehicles do not tow well being even a couple of inches out of level, excessive tire wear. The more overhang you have on the rear of your motor home, the more critical towing level becomes. If the alignment does not correct the problem, a drop down receiver is a lot less than replacing front tires. I would measure how far you are out of level and if more than 2 inches I would install the drop down receiver. brobox... I don't' have them connected right now but I am thinking not more than a couple of inches. The MH is higher. I always make sure the tires are turning the right direction...or at least after one time when I didn't and drug the toad a few yards in the soft dirt. I stay outside while DH drives forward to make sure everything is turning properly, so I don't think that is the problem. As others said, maybe it is just an alignment problem and it was found to be slightly out or alignment when we put on new tires. So you don't think a few inches lower than MH will be a problem?

RE: 2002 Saturn VUE AWD as a Toad

According to Remco's web site, your model of Saturn can only be towed on a trailer. There are no alterations available for that model.

RE: Can Honda Ridgeline be towed on dolly?

When we decided to switch to a mid-size pickup for a toad, I watched and talked to those towing mid-size P/U. I did not see a Ridgeline being towed during that year, and I still haven't seen one 4 down. (We just completed 9,200 miles). I talked to the Honda Dealer and they told me it was the transmission and AWD that made it not towable 4 down. I came home, checked Remco's site and they stated, Trailer only. When the company that makes towing adapters says it can't be towed, I have to believe them. If the Ridgeline had been doable for towing, I would be driving one today. I sure liked all of the extras on the Ridgeline over the Tacoma. However, I went with choice "B" as it could be made towable.

RE: Roadmaster Falcon 5250 towbar

I did not like the large, heavy bracket of my Roadmaster that had to be stored when not towing. I also switched to Blue Ox, much easier to connect and disconnect and nothing to store but 2 small couplings.

RE: towing 2009 3500 dually behind class a motor home

It should tow fine if your MH is rated for towing 10,000 lbs. However, that heavy you would want to install an auxiliary brake system on the truck. The truck is going to weigh almost 1/3 of the weight of the MH which would give the MH a pretty good push without a brake system.

RE: Can a 2010 Camry be towed 4 down?

Being that the Camry is front wheel drive, only the manual transmission is towable. All automatics in the Camry have to be towed on a dolly.

RE: CRV Honda

Two major problem with early tire wear on toads are an un-level tow bar and not rotating the tires every 5,000 miles. That is a combination of driving AND towing miles. An un-level tow bar puts to much strain in the front end of the toad causing premature tire wear. Many people do not rotate tires after 5,000 towing miles thinking there is no wear while being towed. Not true, lots of front tire wear while being towed. I saw that on my brand new toad with the rubber tits still on the tires when we left home. The new rubber tits on the front tires were gone after 5,000 miles of towing the rear tires still had them.

RE: Tire strategy confirmation

I replaced my tires at 7 years and the "soft" new ride came back. If it hadn't happened to me, I wouldn't have believed that new tires made that much of a difference in the ride. I guess the sidewalls do get stiff with age.

RE: RV SunScreen

Funny Story about my Prompts. On our last trip a Monaco pulled in next to us at the same time. We both started to put our sun screens up and before the Monaco owner had his ladder and Sun Screens out, I had my Prompts up and was putting the bag away. We had a laugh about it and he said he wish he knew about Prompts before he bought his. The Prompts are great. You will find you use them more ofter as they are so fast to put up.

RE: Diesel Tank Leaking

One place to check for the leak is the rubber fill hose that connects at the top of the tank. It is common for the hose clamp to come loose or a small hole in the tube itself. One thing about a "slow pump", it is usually a dirty pump filter. When I run into that, I shut the pump off and find another place to fuel. The last time I had to get fuel from one of those, there was water in the fuel. No more "slow pumps" for me.

RE: Can Honda Ridgeline be towed on dolly?

I also REALLY like the Ridgeline and would have bought one in a heart beat had it been towable, nice mid size trucks! I hear exactly what you are saying about a mid size truck suiting our needs. That is why I bought the Toyota, suited my needs and I could make it towable. Brobox-the Ridgeline better suits are needs. The fact That I can't tow it wasn't that big a factor as we still can tow my DW's CR-V if needed. I always wanted a 4wd and this is very versatile. I need a vehcile that I can put plywood or a household appliance in and have comforable seating. The others were too big or too small. This has a trunk in the bed and drives like an SUV or better yet a carnot a truck .Loaded with leather and a moonroof.

RE: So confused about towing

Hubby, needs to read the owners manual again, the Cobalt is towable. Can he quote what it states in the owners manual about not being towable? Is he looking under recreation or dingy towing?

RE: Suggestions Needed for Dinghy Towing

I would put a braking system on any toad being pulled with a light weight class C. You might want to look at the Ready Brake, great system, easy to install and only runs $380. Here is a current post regarding rear cameras. Cameras.

RE: Can Honda Ridgeline be towed on dolly?

No, Trailer only or I would be towing one. Check Remco's site, Trailer Only. The Ridgeline is an AWD, therefor all wheels must be off the ground to be towed. Too bad you didn't purchase one of the towable trucks you looked at.

RE: NHTSA spanks Toyota today over gas pedal recall effort...

Owning one of the Toyota's in question, I tried to duplicate the problem and couldn't. I have the factory carpeted floor mats and have a lightweight all weather floor mat on top, both hooked to the floor mat hooks that keep both mats far away from the gas peddle. I unhooked the all weather mat and tried everything possible to get it to jam the gas peddle and I couldn't. If it was a heavy all weather floor mat like I had in my jeep, that thing would be like putting a brick against the gas peddle and I can see where that could cause a problem. However, if people are dumb enough to drive with a floor mat tangled up in their gas peddle...........well

RE: Transmission problems from towing Honda's?

Earl, This was a great post and one I was watching to see what the answers would be. It came out just about what I thought it would, NO direct problems towing a Honda. Personally, I have talked several people in RV Parks towing Honda automatics (Ody's, 1 Civic) and not one had reported a problem. All were using the pre 05 towing procedure recommendations. You just haven't heard from the right people yet. Did the person that posted a thread about the transmission failure in his '06 Civic post? How about the two Ody owners that contacted me why both had trans failures after towing? You're getting feedback from a very small fraction of a percentage of owners. Did the Ody owners that contacted you, really follow the towing procedures? Were you there to make sure they did? I am sorry Deen, but that is hear say, you or I weren't there to make sure they were following procedure.

Buy the camera, you won't be sorry. The red flag could attract bulls :) Armadillo, has the right idea with the wireless camera, they are easy to install and the piece of mind is priceless.

RE: Cost to have captain chair reupholstered?

Kathy, I just had the bottom part and one arm rest reupholstered on the 9 way driver seat of my Chevy Pickup here in Ft. Myers and it was $400. for leather. That was only 1/2 of the seat, the back part was fine. At least it matched and I sold the truck looking brand new, but it was expensive.
