RE: Transfer flow aux. tank
I have a replacement front tank ( I have 2 tanks in my FORD F 250HD) with 50 gal. capacity. Other than needing to mentally recalibrate the front tank gauge, it works just like stock, just flip the selector switch ! Tank is a Transfer Flow, quality product, and here in S. Ca. can be installed at their facility !
RE: Fridge won't cool!!
Since you didn't say how old the unit is, lets start with spiders etc, in the burner area, next which was my problem, is to clean the chimney, vent pipe. This is not an easy job since you must do it from the TOP to avoid damage to the baffle . Use a shop vac to clean up the burner area being careful of the spark igniter and flame sensor. This worked like a charm for me! I have a solar powered fan blowing up the outside coils, and a 2D cell fan in the frig. Regularly go to desert areas w/temps over 100, I do try to avoid that !
RE: Fresh water capaicity question.
Hi all ! My first call would be to the MFG. customer service line. If they say that your tank should hold very close to the rated capacity, then the next question to ask them is will they contact your closest dealer to have the problem looked at. Remember, you just purchased a new RV from them, and they will want to make sure you are satisified ! (we hope !) The water in the waterheater does not come into question, unless you fill the heater and the pipes from the holding tank. When the fresh holding tank is emtpy, you can't get water from the waterheater because the pump can't pressurize the system. luck !
RE: 5th wheel chucking
RCMAN46 - the trailer is dead level. After flipping (raising) the axles, the mechanic showed me the level and it was bubble centered. So the leveling is not an issue, I think. The truck and trailer combo both sit level too. There is no squating of the truck or rear end sag noticed. I am probably going to struggle with a solution for a bit. Thanks for the response.
CIDER, You didn't say if the dealer installed the shocks ... If not, you may need a special bracket made-up to compensate for the now longer distance from the frame mount to the spring shackle lower mount. If they installed the same shocks without a new bracket, the shocks are in the almost fully extended state and mostly useless ! This could cause broken springs ? and surely a harsh ride. Get under there and look at the mentioned parts !
RE: Need reasonably priced dimmer switch for lights in fiver
I would make my own, but that is kind of in my field, so one of the many sources given most likely work for you. Just a thought, If the unit is a solid state device it could make quite a bit of RF noise, ie; radio tv interference. Ask about this if it matters to you. Obviously, make sure the lights in question are 12v DC !
RE: Mice
I have gone through the mice inside problem with my Alpenlite (not lightweight) 5th, and would slide around underneath every year with my can(s) of foam calking and work light. This helped, put screen over the heater ducts and the holding tank holes in the heater in-floor ducts. These holes are used to heat the enclosed holding boxes. Sealed around the fresh water and electrical enteries under the cabinets and underneath the trailer. All this has (almost) stopped the little critters from getting in, my wife and bird are much pleased !!! When we park in forest areas, which is all the time, I put up to a dozen traps outside, and 3 or so in the forward storage area. It has been a long process for 10 years! Good luck and many pleasant camping days!
RE: Power Factor Correction
You may have other things on AC power that you don't know of. An electric water heater element can be 7 to 10 amps AC, the ref may switch to AC automaticaly if 120v is present, that is another 3-5? amps AC load. May just be the charger is set to high an amp .
RE: Dead batteries
Check the electrolite (water) level of ALL the cells in all your batteries.Yes, then a digital voltmeter check. Remember, there are some things in your RV that draw a small ammount of current even when "off". Check circuit breakers and maby a fuse for the convertor, input and output sides.
RE: Alpine Coach
The chassis mfgr. would be nice, but Western wrecreation vehicles is out of business. Try the engine mfgr, also could be a voltage regulator module in the instrument cluster, or some loose connections. Good luck
RE: How to read amp hours for 6 volt
HWYBNB has the facts right on ! You need a digital voltmeter to keep check on the battery voltage. The led indicators are not very accurate. Try Radio Shack, they have some good ones for not very much. The air pump draw is ok, but what else do you run at night ? A TV,lights, and the gas detector draws about .10A, and you most likely have a carbon monoxide det.also, .10A ? You should think about ditching the "convertor" and get a good 3 stage battery charger. It will take much better care of your batterier, and actually charge them properly up close to 100% Start with the meter. Your 12volt should not go below about 11.5volts, and it needs to be charged when it gets there for sure. take care, and have some good trips to interesting places !
RE: How will a 30' 30amp RV extension cord affect my A/C's?
A digital volt meter is the only way to know your voltage. An analog meter or a row of led's doesn't git it ! If you do run both AC's, go outside and feel the cable connectors. They should not be so hot you can't touch them, things will melt ( smell real bad)
RE: Gear Oil Vs Mercon
You should do a Google search for "Ford ZF and Ford ZF parking brake" There a number of places that rebuild the ZF frans, I am sure they have some good info.
RE: Batteries not Charging
I am curious about the continued use of the term "inverter" . An inverter is used to convert DC 12volt power to 120 v ac. Don't know how that would be used to charge your batteries, since it is running (drawing power) from the batteries. The Magnum ME2012 has both a modified sine 120vac invertor, and a 100a (max) 12vdc multistage battery charger. I would guess that the tripping may be because the charge rate is set right on 100A. I would set it to maby 95A. The comment to check all the terminal connections is good, BUT be VERY sure that All the breakers are OFF, and gen is not running, and shore power is disconnected !!There is a lot of power in your system, AC120v,and 12VDC at many hundreds of amps! Check the manual for setup of the ME2012's. good luck
RE: Directv help please.
jimbo53 sounds like you called a franchise Directv dealer, have never heard of "sending a tech out" !!! I have a second receiver in my rv and usually must call DTV to reinitialize before leaving for our travels. How did you get all 4 networks authorized ? Have been trying that for years, but they always say that since I can receive ABC they can't authorize...to just watch the "local" channel feeds. Well, that won't work when i'm across the country somewhere ! Good luck with DTV
RE: BEWARE OF THEIFS
That is so sad to hear of all these breakins and thefts ! The storage yard can get a web enabled dvr with an interface for the cameras they already have for about $500.00 That way there will be a record of all activities for quite a few days. Note, the $500 price is for only a 4 camera setup, there ones available for 8,16 etc. for more $$$
RE: Slide out seal
Haven't had any problems with mine yet, it's a '95 with a 15ft slide. I wipe down the slide rubber with a silicon type tire dressing, which keeps it soft and prevents uv damage and sticking which can most definately cause problems .

RE: Newbie hitch question
some good advice here , like one person said don't trust what the salesperson says, also the same for the trailer weight, altho the new units are suppost to have the ACTUAL weight WITH all options that are installed. My hitch is a double tilt type and it is a pleasure to use. Hitching and unhitching on uneven terrain, which happens often since we usually camp in unimproved forest service areas is easy, usually the hard part is getting into the site between the trees or rocks. Good luck, and watch out for low tree branches and other overhangs. It is a good idea to actually measure the highest point and write it on a note to stick on your dash. A printed hitch and unhitch checklist is a good idea. Don't let anyone distract you during these tasks. Take care and enjoy the beautiful country, there is so much to see !!!
