May 11th and it's snowing

How long will this winter last?!!! Going to get down to 28 degrees tonight. UGHHH! This is ridiculous.

RE: Do I really need a Dually?

We were considering the AF 990, and had a Dodge 3500 LB, SRW. By checking all the #s, and having the dealer weigh the unit because of a huge difference in the weight he was quoting, we would have been 1100 lbs over GVWR. That's including the tongue wt of a 3000 lbs boat. That is too much wt for our comfort level. All he would have done was to add airbags. Learning so much on this forum, we would have to add about $7K in mods to the truck to make it work safely (for us). Some folks are braver and will say differently. You have to go with what will make you happy. We love our new DRW and most importantly, we feel safe. BTW, we didn't go with the 990 because we found another TC with a nicer floor plan and more space, not because it's not a nice unit.

RE: With or without oven

We love our oven and use it all the time. Nope, wouldn't buy a TC without. Hot biscuits in the A.M.... YUM!

RE: REALY BIG RANT! Short post.

I understand your pain! It's snowing here again and I'm so sick of it that I want to move. Winds gusting to 40 mph and snowing like heck!!! When will it end? We still have a good 18" in some places of the yard and 5" in the low spots.:M Last year at this time it was warmer than usual (70s) but this yr, we're lucky to get up to 40. We're missing valuable camping time.

RE: New to camping with a dog your advice?

Yes, you have to clean up after them, but I guarantee that they enhance your camping enjoyment. Sometimes trouble, yes, but mostly not. We have never been turned away from a CG with our dogs. We make concessions for our dogs, yes, but their love is worth it. I would rather associate with them than a lot of people that I've met.

RE: New to camping with a dog your advice?

Be patient. Teach him not to bark (important for your neighbors)and introduce him to anything and everything. He'll adjust to camping perfectly. Just remember, as long as he's with his family, he's happy. Besides, it looks like he won't take up much room at all. What a cutie! Enjoy your new camping buddy. Last year was Duncan's first time camping and he was awesome. We have a TC and share it with a weimaraner and a cavalier. They are wonderful campers. They just think our TC is a different house. No big deal.

RE: Opinons please...update, question 4/7

A fatty tumor is called a lipoma. Our weimaraner is so SO lumpy with them. The vet has aspirated a couple to make sure that they are indeed lipomas and benign. He has a larger than grapefruit size one on his rib cage. The vet is reluctant to do anything because it's in his chest wall. He's 12 and is having no difficulties right now, so we just watch it.

RE: Adventurer 86FB on 3500 Dodge Mega Cab Diesel

TCINTN, do not just listen to one person's opinion. Disco, PM the author and talk privately. We have the 910FBS and love it. We have had a couple of issues, some are not Adventurer's, but we have gotten great service from the company. I know others on here as well who are happy campers. You can PM me and can discuss it. Please don't let this become another Adventurer bashing thread. As you can see by our sig, our TC is larger than the 86FB and it fits beautifully on our truck. No mods at this time and drives beautifully towing the boat. We have minimal sway but are toying with the idea of adding quick disconnect stable loads. Hope this helps.

RE: Pet ramp

Tuesday Morning is a discount store that has a little bit of everything. I love it. Sorry, I don't know how to do the link thing.

RE: Reaction to Lepto Vaccine

Our weim had never had the vaccine until we were stationed in ND, where the vet suggested that we do it (even though we lived on base). Our poor boy was lethargic for 3 days and ran a high fever after receiving it. We have since moved to WI (very rural), but the vet hasn't mentioned needing it. I am hesitant to have them vaccinated for lepto after that reaction.

Pet ramp

Hello All, Our 12 yr old weim has arthritis and can no longer safely or comfortably jump into our large truck. DH was lifting him until his ruptured disc. I have been searching for a ramp and finally found one. It's the "UltraLite Bi-fold Pet Ramp" by SOLVIT products. It holds 200lbs. We tried it out and it fits edge of the 3500 perfectly. Granted, it's steep, but both the weim and cavalier can easily maneuver in and out safely. It folds in half and is truly light weight. The best part...it was only $50 at Tuesday Morning! I'm so happy! Those who need a ramp, may want to check them out.

RE: Fan Upgrade - Bath & Range UPDATE !

Do you have the same amt of fan power as the original fans? It's such a great idea. I hate the noise, sounds like an airplane running in the TC and I always worry about bothering the "neighbors". Pardon my ignorance, is your bathroom fan ceiling mounted? Ours is in the wall. Do you think this would work for ours?

RE: Do You Own a Tractor

We live on 8.5 acres. We're shopping now for a CUT of some type so that we can maintain the lawn, yet do some heavy work. We're trying to create a wildlife refuge of sorts. This is an intersting thread.

RE: Insurance

We have USAA. Our bill increased $6/mo to cover the new dually and TC. Buzzcutt, that's a good idea to send photos for their records. We'll do the same.

RE: Help! Just got my truck camper need advice

You'll want to add a RUBBER bed liner, to keep the TC from sliding around. We use Torklift tie downs and fastguns. We also pull a heavy boat, so use a superhitch. Very solid products and great customer service. Buy from Tweety's...good prices and had free shipping when we bought last yr.

RE: SRW diesel truck choices

I'm no expert (and a woman), but GVWR doesn't = payload. The amt of payload is how much wt the truck can carry...No. The GVWR or Gross Vehicle Weight Rating specifications of a vehicle refers to the maximum allowable weight the vehicle can carry, including itself. Payload is the weight of cargo, passengers, fuel, etc, a vehicle can carry or haul. GVWR - payload capacity = weight of the truck itself. I think I spoke too narrowly. Of course you're correct. I think only in terms of the weight of everything (truck included, people, gear, dogs, gas etc), it just doesn't leave much weight left for a larger TC.

RE: So how many wax their units?

DH does. Twice a year, once in spring and then before putting it to bed for winter.

RE: Starting campfires

We make our own fire starters with melted wax from old candles, abit of saw dust (dryer lint works too) and placed in egg cartons. Tear a couple off and light em up. They work great.

RE: SRW diesel truck choices

I'm no expert (and a woman), but GVWR doesn't = payload. The amt of payload is how much wt the truck can carry. We had an '06 Dodge 3500 SRW and the payload was only 2700 lbs. The tires you have are also a limiting factor. We looked at the AF 990 and with all calculations, we would have been 1100 lbs over wt! As you can see in our sig, we had to go with a dually. Our rig fully loaded weighs almost 4600 lbs. Remember, the weight you see written IS NOT TRUE. TCs are usually heavier than the manufacturer claims, not to mention each option that is added. You'll have to watch every item you put in, or you'll have to modify your truck with bigger wheels and suspension, costing thousands. JMO...wait and get a dually or a smaller TC.

RE: Short bed 4 seasons, 4 adults for a few days

Our Adventurer 910FBS is considered a 4 season TC. It could sleep 4 men if one sleeps on the floor, which is spacious. 2 smaller men could fit the dinette but it would be VERY cozy. You don't mention your truck. It's a heavy unit and requires a dually.
