RE: are you stretching your grocery budget?!
I've had some savings lately as a result of trying to have a healthier diet.
We started buying our meat in bulk- those large vacuum sealed pkgs at BJs. ANd then we cut and food-saver ourselves. And grind the lean meat for our own ground beef. That was because I was so grossed out by all the e-coli outbreaks.
I also have started making all our bread products- sandwich bread, english muffins, hamburg and hot dog buns, bagels, etc. I started that because I wanted to add healthier ingredients- whole grains and fiber. And we discovered the products not only taste better but are cheaper than the store bought. We even make our own pizza once a week. That's a big savings. 2 pizzas were costing us over $30. Now it costs about $5 total. And lower fat, higher fiber to boot.
We make our own pasta, too.
We started packing our lunches too, and that savings adds up.
I do garden in the summer.
So far, these are enjoyable, painless (healthy) changes.
I would love to know what recipes your using for the breads and pizza that your making? Sounds really great and healthier too.
RE: -18 F.Below outside frozen roast & crock pot need recipe
I have never started with a frozen roast either in a crock pot, I thought that a person was not supposed to do that when cooking with them?
I am going to give the recipe with the ranch and Italian dressing a try too, always looking for something that is fool proof and great tasting to try and impress my boyfriend when he's home off the rig.

RE: Boiled hamburgers
Sorry but this is the way to go:

You have fun with your boilin' but the cool folks will be at my RV site, burnin' beef, squirtin' ketchup and drinkin' cold beer.
;)Aw, now you did it, I am so hungry for a nice grilled steak and corn right now, soon as gets above zero I am going to give it a go.
LOl, supposed to be -50 windchill today and tonight, oh glory.
Well actually I never have thought of doing the boiling thing, I might try it just for the ease of it if they are froze, I can see that, plus I can't fry a hamburger in a pan worth nothing. Can grill up a storm though.
