RE: locked keys in lesharo

I have had occasions when one of my employees locked their keys inside their cars or trucks and the police would come over and give it a try, they usually were able to open them. I always have a door key hidden somewhere on the vehicle that I can use in an emergency and a spare ignition key hidden inside. You might also try posting on a Winnebago forum to get more specific advice. Nick

RE: Weight on roof

Several years ago someone, maybe Roger, posted to place a step ladder against the awning with something soft in between to protect it. When I had my Excels I would park parallel to a wall and place my 8 foot step ladder against the awning using an old quilt for padding and the legs would be against the wall therefore no slipping. If you can set up an arangement similar to this you can reach about 70% of the roof from one side and easily finish up the other side by simply standing on the step ladder. In your case a heavy buffer would really help make things easier. After cleaning it, wax it twice while you're up there and at least twice a year thereafter. Nick 10 Explorer

RE: collective wisdom on price

When I see a motorized RV that is 8 years old with 19,000 miles, I ask myself was this used very little, or did someone live in it? You have to see it, drive it, smell it, and get a complete history/car-fax and then make your offer accordingly. If the dealer called you he must know you are looking for one and that would without a doubt influence his asking price. Try to find a friend that will go in and get a sense of what they really are trying to get for it ahead of time. Nick 10 Explorer X-TS

RE: Chevy 4.8L V8 Engine-vs- Chevy 6.0L V8 Engine

Very interesting information, especially for those of us who know nothing about torque. I do know that when I went from a V-8 Ford Excel to a V-10 Ford Excel, the difference was felt immediately, when starting from a dead stop it was like having a high performance engine, and coupled with the 5 speed, the difference in mileage was only 1 mpg and the engine seemed to run effortlessly. I do have a question, now having my first Chevy chassis and being a 5.3 litre, why is there no option to have the 5.3 on the Roadtreks? Is it a torgue or power problem? Just curious. Ours too. With a record breaking 57 units registered, having meals catered is the way to go. Nick & Chris 10 Explorer

RE: Road Salt Protection and Maintenance ?

It's hard to keep them clean in the winter as most of us don't have outside water turned on for a few months and 9 feet doesn't fit into any of the full service car washes around here. I'm fortunate to have a heated wash bay near home that has a 12 foot high door so I wash it over there. We also have a self-service car wash that has a 10 ft. clearance under the overhead hoses that I have used, you might want to look into finding one near your home. Otherwise if you get a few warm days in a row, you can turn your water back on and thaw out your hose to clean it at home. Nick 10 Explorer X-SE

RE: Chevy 4.8L V8 Engine-vs- Chevy 6.0L V8 Engine

I just got a 2010 Explorer Conversion Van and it's on a Chevy 1500 Express it has the 5.3L engine with AWD and from what I was told, it was the only engine available with AWD, at least through Explorer Vans. Nick 10 Explorer X-SE

RE: Freightliner emblem lost

There is an e-bay add for Mercedes front badge 2-1/16" diameter replacement for Dodge Sprinter/Freightliner but it says Mercedes rather than Freightliner. Price is $21.00 shipping included. The badge is self adhering. Check out e-bay, there is a lot of sprinter stuff on there at good prices. I use e-bay quite a lot and have never been burned. Nick 10 Explorer X-SE

RE: 1990 Ford Falcon 190 conversion van

I noticed you just joined Rv.net today and you probably don't know the rules. The forums are not to be used for buying or selling RV's. Nick

RE: newbies

Truck campers are not cheap anymore. Best advice, go to all of th RV show you can attend, sit in the RV's, assume that all of them are loaded with your camping gear, personal stuff, water, etc. then ask yourself what do I have to do to go camping. In a motorized RV, Class A, B, or C, you turn the key and off you go, the only question remaining is how much room do you want. Nick

RE: newbies

As you posted this on the Class B forum, most views and replies here would be from Class B owners. I have had Class A's, travel trailers, and truck campers they all have advantages however I am on my fourth Class B. The advantages with the van campers are that you can also use them as daily drivers, nothing to hook up, park them just about anywhere, the passenger can go from front to back to take a nap or watch a DVD or have a snack without pulling over (keep safety in mind), the bathroom is within the unit, mileage is excellent, nothing to hook up or load onto a truck, and unless your are in a restricted homeowners association, no storage to worry about. The disadvantage is they are small and most are made for a family of two. We have used our B's for travel, sight seeing, camping, rallies, and even shopping. Go to the Grand Canyons and park where other RV's are not allowed. The Class B's are probably the most versatile units available and come in a variety of sizes, high tops, pop-tops, low tops and various chassis options, Ford, GM, Freightliner/Mercedes, gas, diesel, AWD, RWD, and 4-wheel drive. They can even be custom made from mini-vans. Nick 2010 Explorer

RE: Winterizing woes

Also be sure it comes out of the inside shower head, and a little in each of the sink traps. For what it costs, more is better. Nick

RE: Adding a house battery

Thanks everyone. I picked up the van on Saturday and am mostly spending time measuring and thinking where to put what. There is a lot of storage space under the electric sofa bed and that is where I think I'll start with the battery itself. The second row seats come out and they each leave only a small bracket that is about 1/2" above the carpet. I've decided to have a thick carpet remnant padded and edged to cover the open area after removing the seats. This will give me about 56" in width and about 65" in length when the sofa is in the seat position, more than enough space to add what I'll need. When the sofa is down, everthing we carry will be under it and we'll have about 42" of floor space left between the front seats and the end of the bed, should work out great. Best of all, it does fit in the garage. I'm now curious about the kind of battery trouble a hard wired inverter would cause as that is one of the options I was considering. Nick 2010 Explorer X-ST

RE: Kinzua Koa in Pa.

Andy, I cannot comment on the KOA but Kinzua itself is a beautiful area. Hunting season has opened in Pa., for turkeys, archery, etc. so be careful if walking through the woods. The first time I drove through there was in 1964 when they were building the dam, it was quite a wilderness at that time and hopefully it will be preserved forever. Nick

RE: Worry about discrimination because of little "B"

The annual Class B rally is exactly that, a Class B specific rally. There are many, many rallies held throughout the year that are not specific and I don't think anyone has the time to attend them all. These rallies are sponsored by Class B manufacturers and the sponsorships are solicited based on the fact that these are "Class B" only rallies which gives them a captive audience at the Class B RV show held at the rallies. And Seraphim, any unit that is not a Class B cannot register. It is not discrimination, it is a group of Class B owners that have the same RV interests and there is even a limit to the number of Class B owners that can attend, this year it is 50 units. During the rest of the year, these same owners participate in various rallies and social gatherings throughout the country. I do not own a Roadtrek and therefore cannot attend any of the Roadtrek rallies and I don't feel like it's discrimination, the Roadtrek rallies are for Roadtrek owners just like the Class B rallies are for Class B owners. If there was a Class A owners rally I surely wouldn't feel bad that I could not attend because I didn't own a Class A. Think about it. Nick 2010 Explorer X-ST

RE: 2010 Seventh Annual RV.net Class B Rally (B7)

The sponsors for B-7 are starting to sign on. We have already received commitments from four Class B manufacturers and several retailers. Bruce is hoping to have an even larger Class B RV show at the rally this year. Check out our sponsor tab at www.b-rally.org to see who is on board to date, also the program tab to see the events that have already been sponsored. See you at The Villages at Turning Stone in May. RE: Where to find class Bs in nw IN?

I guess administration is really not a moderator. Let's all talk about the Rv.net annual Class B rally being held at The Villages at Turning Stone in Verona, New York May 21 through May 23, 2010, register at www.b-rally.org. The CVC forum has somewhat changed?????? Nick

RE: Roadtrek and Pleasure Way comparison

Agree with Mumkin. Also check out the sites selling used rv's they are loaded with pictures and descriptions. Knowing what state you are from would probably help in getting you information on units for sale in your area. You do have to look at them and try them out. Nick 10 Explorer X-ST

RE: How much discount to expect on new Pleasure-way

As of right now, Van City in St. Louis has a new 2009 Excel TS on their web-site at $73,063.00. The TD should be a tad less without the electric sofa. Nick 2010 Explorer X-SE
