RE: Firefox Issue with Mac Mail
Your theme is probably the problem.. It looks like you installed Chromifox, which is still a pending version. Go back to the default theme and that should correct it.
When you start changing things that are not programmed by the people at Firefox you're bound to get problems. Try removing adds ons until it corrects itself.
Remember add ons are only as good as the person that programmed it and sometimes that's a 14 year old kid.
RE: A True PC vs. Mac Usage Comparison
Is the hardware and software in a MAC really worth the 2 or 3 times the price or is it for exclusivity of the OS? or status?
Not demeaning the product, but rather just curious.
Not the hardware is not 2-3 times the price. You have to compare hardware to hardware, not some POJ $300 computer with a Mac.
Compare a Sony Viao with a Mac and tell me what you get...
RE: $298 HP Computer @ wal-mart saturday only
I went to Walmart this morning at 12am, a limited number of people that purchase the new Call of duty get a free energy drink.. I was the last one to get one.. WooHooo, 5 more minutes and I would have been here complaining
RE: Question for a Geek
No they can't. For a couple of reasons.
1. They don't have access to track it unless they get a call.
2. Privacy issues.
3. The phone company needs to be contacted with the correct court orders and then they locate your phone, they can turn the signal up or down and get you into a certain area. Then they roll out their tech truck, it's really cool, and narrow the signal down.
Get a lojack or an iphone. The iPhone will allow you to track it to within a block or so.. There are also a number of other services you can use and install in your camper.
RE: A True PC vs. Mac Usage Comparison
Another great one,
Market Share
The most recent I could find.
Well here is something different.
You're truly late to the market share argument. We put that to bed months ago on many different threads.
Apple's OS share is growing rapidly, like it not.
RE: A True PC vs. Mac Usage Comparison
Here ya go guys:
Mac Service Pack
Apple doesn't do service packs they do updates.
MS does updates AND service packs.
RE: A True PC vs. Mac Usage Comparison
because consumers don't want a geek OS that comes in a million versions.
You guys a MS should not be bashing people on offering a million versions of something.... :)
Good one Creeper, but in reality there are no more than 250,000 versions of THAT OTHER OS. :B
I don't have a MAC because I'm poor and I don't like their mouse.
It needs MO BUTTONS. I love my 4 Button Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer. In fact it is the first version they came out with years ago and I found one for the wife too.
Man can not live on 2 button and a wheel alone.
If one has the money, then buy a MAC and give it a test drive.
$599 and use the keyboard and mouse you already have. Pretty cheap...
I've always hated Apple mice, but the new one has gotten my attention. I need to play with it more, but so far it does what I need. I might even buy one. I too need many, many buttons..
RE: The Droid cometh!
Both the iPhone and Android phones had good and bad reviews at launch, but the reviews were mostly positive--that is a fact. I appreciate your early review of the Droid. Many peopele will want to hear about your experience after using it for at least a few weeks.
I don't think I've seen a moderator come under attack like you have on this message string, and I don't think you deserve it.
I really don't think they were attacks. He posted a review of the Droid and I posted my thoughts on the droid.
Now I don't have any loyalty to Verizon and I'm certainly not a member of the Verizon Customer Council where they give you phones to try. I tried to become a member, but only select people can become members and have access to try out products offered by Verizon.
Android phones will progress in the future and hopefully they will give me something I can use on Verizon. The reviews have been better for another just released Verizon phones and I'll be heading up there soon to try it out. Now if I can just get on the council, so I can swap out phones.

RE: A True PC vs. Mac Usage Comparison
with MS, latest OS is the greatest thing, for what, two years, and now this is new one is so much better. How many times can folks be fooled by that crap.Yup ... and don't forget the mid term (service packs) because things didn't quite work the way they were supposed to.
And sevice packs are a "bad thing???" Not only do they fix issues, they can add features. Apple has already released one update to Snow Leopard and the second one 10.6.2 is in beta testing and will probably be released before the new year.
Tom
Well they can be a bad thing if you can't install them and releases them causes problems.
Was attempting to install SP3, kept getting error that I needed more space and to delete 4 megs to make space. With 120 gigs of open space that really shouldn't be a problem. MS was of course no help getting the issue resolved. Had to go add a registry string to get the update to load. Now my Sr. Citizen In-Laws would have never been able to do that and would have been a serious problem for them.
But, yes they can be a good thing if you can get them installed.
RE: A True PC vs. Mac Usage Comparison
Yes Creeper, you can post a big smiley face!!! :B
You're not telling me anything I didn't know. I've gotten the same results on my site.
RE: $298 HP Computer @ wal-mart saturday only
If a store says 8am, that means 8am, not 4,5,6,or7.
John
You miss the point. The people who camped out at 2am would be the same people at 4,5,6,7, or 8 and still gobbled them all up. So, what is the point of having people in camping gear and sleeping bags in front of the store?
If there were any left or they had tons then they would have had to wait all night.
When the new PS3 went on sale at Best Buy they were camped out 24 in advance. They had tents, cots, stoves, etc... When the sale started they found out the employees had purchased the entire stock. NOW THEY had a reason to complain and they did. It got so nasty they cops showed up. When you have an actual reason to complain then have at it, when you show up 15 minutes before a sale and you wouldn't have gotten one if you showed up 4 hours early then give it a rest.
RE: The Droid cometh!
You continually bash the iPhone, I suspect you have some tie to Verizon and that would explain your bias. After all who but you go through so many "smart phones", which all these others are, but the iphone is not even though it does all that they do, oh except the "limited" multi tasking, which you claimed was no multitasking.
I did not spend "minutes" checking out the Droid. I spent a considerable amount of time checking out reviews and in the store. I need something better then this POJ LG Dare that you loved so much.
Now looks at the difference, I said it has bad reviews from users.. That's a fact... The camera is not good, That's a fact and widely complained about... It has software problems..... That's a fact..... It's large...... That's a fact...... It's heavy...... that's a fact.... It's keyboard is not good....... that's a fact.. The droid doesn't do multitouch, don't all smart phones do that?
You're spin on the iphone.... Jesus phone, not a smart phone, owned by fan boys. holy grail.. It doesn't do multitasking to your liking, so it doesn't do multitasking. You claimed people say it's without flaw, yet I don't see that anywhere in these posts :R
If you spend a few minutes actually looking you would see that the "fan boys" are the ones who complain the most about the iPhone. They want certain features to be included by apple and it's the only way they will do it. It's hard to see when you're blinded by your bias.
What you feel to realize and apparently don't like it, is that Apple very quickly changed and became the gold standard for smart phones. WHen you gobble up that much market share so quickly then OBVIOUSLY your'e doing something right. Now there are so many look a likes out there in form and function.
SO, as far as I can see YOUR definition of a smart phone is multitasking, but any phone with more multitasking then the iphone. Your bias is clear.....
Now you'll call me a fan boy, but since Verizon doesn't have the iPhone I need something that is decent and has some of the features of the iPhone. I was hoping the Droid was it, but sadly it's not and falls way short.
RE: The Droid cometh!
I don't have a 'tude' about the jesus phone, i have a 'tude' about people who think its the 'second coming' and about the Media hype declaring every new smart phone the iPhone killer, and then complaining when its NOT, I have a 'tude' about the mis-labeling things in the media whether its phones or gun control or personal rights against 'civil rights'
THen you do EXACTLY what you say you don't like.
The iPhone is without a doubt a Smart phone that has everyone chasing it. All the other smart phone makers are losing market share to it and yet you label is at a glorified feature phone... Those in glass houses..
You were the one who raved about the LG Dare, I have it and can tell you it's junk. It really does only one thing good and that is figure out the tip I should leave.
RE: The Droid cometh!
ALL smart phones OS's ,BB, winMo symbian, and now Android do multi-tasking
the iphone does not,
Okay
my dare, voyager, Env and other phones, Do the same amount of multi-tasking that the iphone does....
So first you say it doesn't do multi tasking, then you say it does? Sounds like you just don't like iphones and that clouds your opinion. Btw, you can listen to music, talk on the phone, email at the same time. that sounds like multitasking to me. So, since you were about as clear as mud on what a "true" smart phone is, I would have to assume it comes down to just multi tasking or more multitasking then the iphone does. But, really how much multitasking do you want to do on a tiny little screen.
ability to run multiple tasks running at the same time is one of the defining points of a smart phone, the ability to purchase programs from anywhere, or to program them yourself, with out jail breaking is another ( less decisive ) factor
not to many people would be happy IF the only place to buy a program for a Mac was from APPLE and NO place else, quality hardware or not, that hearkens back to Mainframes and renting the computer and software from the MFG. not something for the Personal individual market place
Now we're getting to the root of you bias and silly phone classification. You just don't like apple. Where you buy apps is not how you classify what the phone is. itunes is the market place you are buying the apps from many different developers. Apple is, as it has for a long time attempting to make the end user experience as good as possible. This way they limit the damage all the rogue and harmful apps out there. Surely if you downloaded some program from god knows where it it destroys your phone, who are you going to call and complain to?
You think Verizon is much better? Why do I have to pay Verizon to rent ring tones? Why won't the let me load my own ring tones with using some work around? Why won't the let me access the tower that is two blocks from my house without upgrading my phone?
RE: The Droid cometh!
the iphone is more of a glorified feature phone than smart phone, but everything it does apps browsing etc.. it does very well, but unless you jail break it, they only way to get apps is those approved and available in the apple iphone app store
I really don't get this comment. A glorified feature phone? It's feature phone because you can only get some of the 100k apps? That really doesn't make sense. The iPhone was one of the first if not the first to give a full browser, rather then the scaled down version on so many other "smart phones".
I guess that makes the Droid a feature phone also as it won't do everything I want it to do...
What exactly is the difference between a glorified feature phone and a smart phone? Is it only a glorified feature phone because you don't like it?
