RE: IPod Touch finally working
the ipod touch is pretty much the same as setting up any email client.. I had no problems you just have to follow the directions of the email provider.
RE: IPhone with Verizon?
OH BS:
not proper posting for a family site..
The iPhone is on Vodafone in Europe. Vodafone = Verizon. Hence the reason I asked "WHERE"...
RE: Tired of computer updates, may go to a Mac
Hobby Talk,
Not sure if this would solve your problem, but I felt the same as you and found this program that works great for me. It is called "Overflow" and is made by a company called Stunt Software. You can do a Google search and find it easily. The program goes in your Dock and allows you to set up different "pages" for different types of programs and avoids having all types of programs in a huge dock.
Richard
Just make a folder, put aliases in the folder and then keep the folder in the dock. It will then spring open when you click on it.
RE: Droid-- First Impressions.....
For the Droid users just be careful with the apps you download. you are limited to the on board memory, which is very small. I have one game for my ipod touch that I play when I'm in the airports and it will use up all the doids memory.
As far as the iphone battery goes they make dozens and dozens of battery extenders. That not only extend the life , but will recharge the iphone. We have a couple for out iPod touchs.
RE: Verizon forces Microsoft’s Bing on ‘smartphone’ users
Is it a fact that uninformed people are usually the ones who complain? They could just ask how to get Google back.
IF you read the the complain thread you would have seen many users spent hours talking with Verizon and there is no getting google, yahoo and wikipedia back. It's now Bing.
Bing is an invasive search option.
Verizon forces Microsoft’s Bing on ‘smartphone’ users
Fyi for Verizon users.
Verizon has been forcing Bing on it's customers. Didn't ask permission and did it without consent. Lots of ticked off verizon customers out there right now.
Verizon forces Microsoft’s Bing on ‘smartphone’ users
unhappy users
RE: Tired of computer updates, may go to a Mac
I mentioned that my daughter has a Mac. So does my other daughter who is a nurse. She switched last year. My step-daughter who is a Berkeley graduate has a Mac along with her husband who is employed in the computer field. Everyone loves them.
My concern is changing over to a new system, the learning curve andwindow's based programs that I already have. I see I can get a Mac version of Office.
What programs are you concerned with ?
The real difference in using a Mac vs a PC is shorter steps to do something and menu options in different places.
RE: Tired of computer updates, may go to a Mac
No need for virus software. Forget that garbages about market share and nonsense. That has been debunked some many times it gets tiresome that people just repeat that FUD
Mac OS X security myth exposed
Do I run virus software on my Mac? No. But I never ran it on my PC either and have never had a virus in 20 years. 99% of all virus/mal-ware problems are user misuse.
Myth Shattered...
I've never had to remove a virus, trojan or spyware from a Mac. I've had to do it dozens of times for friends and family who have Windows machines..
RE: Tired of computer updates, may go to a Mac
You will still need the updates - even on a Mac but if you want one go for it. You should turn off the HP updates, dump Mcafee and go with something like the free AVG that updates automatically, and schedule the scans at night or during your lunch or turn them off altogether. I got so tired of Java updates that I turned it off too, but these aren't Windows fault - complain to Sun.
Dave
This is true to some extent. You need OS updates, but not virus updates.
When downloading a Mac update it DOES NOT SLOW DOWN YOUR COMPUTER, like a windows box does. The updates are done in the back ground as you work and will self install when you shut down, unless it's an ilife update or such. That installs without slow down upon request. It will also do automatic maintenance without any slow down.

I have recently spent many hours fixing friends and family windows machines. No matter what machine it is, when you start up you are waiting for many updates. A real pain. Since many people don't leave their computers running all the time or don't remember to leave them on to do updates, the macs are much easy to update.
RE: Christmas shopping- A charger that charges without cords
POWER MAT
You can get them online or best buy..
The "receiver" is made into the case for the item you're using. So, it's a case and charger at the same time. I've seen them and they're very slick.
Instead of having 5 plugs plugged into the wall you can have one. THis is SO ready for primetime.
I've been eyeing this for awhile now.
Best buy link
unboxing
As soon as I get an iPhone I'll be getting a powermat.
RE: It's official - AT&T is #1!
But, what happens if Verizon gets the iphone and their system is overwhelmed. Rumors have it Verizon doesn't want the iphone until they upgrade their system.
Since Verizon is already slower for data and now you add tons of iphones, recipe for a disaster.
Now if AT&T would do one of those circle of friends thing where I could call friends for free, I'd leave Verizon tomorrow. Their service in nothing great. Just try driving 95 in South Carolina. Their service is horrible and A&T is great.
RE: It's official - AT&T is #1!
Ok "Creeper", if you want to put all your faith in, and I quote, "4.7 million tests ...(in) seven metropolitan areas: Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles-Orange County, New York, Seattle-Tacoma, the San Francisco Bay Area, and Washington", then go ahead. I am telling you that this is NOT a statistically correct method, AND the other group which tested by driving has a business relationship with AT&T, and those results cannot be trusted due to this relationship. (After all, the article admits that AT&T will not bad mouth the iphone, which has caused it some bandwidth grief, so I doubt Global Wireless Solutions would do anything to bad mouth AT&T. BUT Consumer Reports, and I quote, "released its annual survey of cellphone service, and its respondents collectively agree with me about the rankings: AT&T occupies the bottom and Verizon, the top." And we all know that Consumer Reports has a great reputation.
But you FAIL to recognize not only what I have said, but what other fellow RVers are saying too....that for us who travel a lot, WE have found Verizon to have better, faster service during our travels. THAT cannot be disputed, for us, Verizon serves our needs better, which is the bottom line.
.
So I should forget the ACTUAL test and put faith in word of mouth? That makes sense to you?
Fellow Rvers are saying both, some say verizon, some say ATT... Some are influenced by ad campaigns and some work for Verizon.
Sorry I'll listen to the people who made ACTUAL tests and based on my experience. ATT works at my house Verizon doesn't.
Business Travel Rates ATT number 1 for the third year in a row, yet consumer reports says the opposite. We'll we're back to people who did ACTUAL TESTS.
BTW, Consumer reports bias in some areas is no secret. That's the reason I stop using them many years ago.
RE: It's official - AT&T is #1!
2) Verizon voice mail service is not satisfactory. No matter what my wife and I do, we still get messages one and two later.
This happens to all of us. Verizon customer service has no answer or resolution for the problem.
RE: It's official - AT&T is #1!
The results place AT&T’s data network not just on top, but well ahead of everyone else. “AT&T’s data throughput is 40 to 50 percent higher than the competition, including Verizon,”
In every market, AT&T had faster average download speeds and had signal strength of 75 percent or better more frequently than did Verizon.
Actually "Creeper", if you read the article posted by the OP, which I have quoted below, you will see that the "study" only did certain large cities.
This year, Root Wireless ran 4.7 million tests on smartphones for each of the four major carriers, spread across seven metropolitan areas: Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles/Orange County, New York, Seattle/Tacoma, the San Francisco Bay Area, and Washington. In every market, AT&T had faster average download speeds and had signal strength of 75 percent or better more frequently than did Verizon.
Then AT&T quotes "in every market...". Oh, if they are saying that their market is only in Chicago, Dallas, etc., fine. But as I said, and I was a AT&T user from 1994-2008, the switch to Verizon in early 2009 has provide WAY BETTER internet service. The "Edge" network you talk about IS NOT faster or as fast as 3G. The Edge is Second Generation technology. 3G is Third Generation technology. Before AT&T catches up with the 3G network, my bet is that Verizon will have a 4G network going strong....Sprint is already testing 4G in a few "lucky" test markets.
If Verizon CAN'T COMPETE in large cities(with their mythical superior network) are we some how to think magically they do better elsewhere? :R
What we are seeing is the power of advertising. People are lead to believe that Verizon is superior. But when someone runs 4.7 MILLION tests , which show the EXACT opposite people dismiss it and believe the commercials.
In this example Verizon is FAR slower in big cities, but why if they are so superior?. Don't believe the hype of Verizon as it's just that hype. There is a reason the actual coverage maps are so similar. They rent towers from third parties in rural areas.
What you fall to recognize is when your in those out lying areas verizons network also backs down to EVDO Rev A 2007, which they are calling 3g and actually is not.. Verizon uses that EVDO Rev as part of their 3g map. EVDO Rev A 2007 is nearly the same speed as ATT Edge, I beleive they are .2mbits difference in standard.
I went to Verizon as I have no signal in my area. Att has full signal at my house. What Verizon wanted me to do is buy one of their little boxes that boost the signal. Oh yeah, they wanted me to pay $250 for the privilege to purchase this box. Very sucky customer service.
RE: It's official - AT&T is #1!
Outside the 3G area is there Edge which is as fast or faster then Verizon network. Don't believe the hype verizon is peddling, obviously it's working for those who choose not to actually look up the real facts.. Only a fool would believe the nonsense Verizon is peddling with those map areas.. Try going to ATT website for their maps. Verizon MADE UP those maps.. :R
Looks a little different then Verizon's version.
