RE: Post your MPG in Diesels.

I do not keep the meticulous records I used to... but roughly:
Dodge 04 5.9L Cummins
16 city 20 highway unloaded - best ever highway was a little over 21
I rarely tow "city" but highway towing is varied:
last month I got 19.5 towing my Caliber 1100 miles on a dolly
I've gotten as much as 14 towing a mid profile 5th wheel and as little as 9 towing my high profile triple axle hauler
My 01 Volvo has a 12Liter Volvo straight 6
Highway bobtail I got about 11 once, but it can drop to 9 easily
Towing highway I get between 8 and 9
Bobtail city is about 9 too

RE: Q: alternatives to TPMS

i found some posts that had recommendations to switch to metal valve stems but no reason given?
I had understood sturdiness because the sender sits on the end of the stem. However in my case I had to swap all my RV stems because the sender would not depress the valve enough to release air and sense pressure. My truck already had metal stems which worked fine. Different senders will be different though.

RE: Stand alone dvr?

We got something similar to this
WM Magnavox DVR
a Magnavox from Walmart. Worked great for OTA in the RV.
Note - because it has no channel guide integrated it is not as nice as the DVR's the cable and satellite folks will rent you (or the TiVo). But it gets the job done.

RE: Deisel/No Tax/Truck Lane

We have always filled at the "truck" lanes at truck stops
I do the same, however Indiana is different I'm told (have been there but not fueled) as described by others here. In other states where I've filled in the truck lanes they may ask for a number before turning on the pump and I've always been fine telling them "private truck". Sometimes I've needed to say it twice, but they are always OK with that.

RE: Q: alternatives to TPMS

My TST tripped a sudden loss alarm when the tire went from 70 to 60. It was at 50 by the time I got to the shoulder and 40 before I got out of the truck. When I got to the tire it still "looked" perfectly fine at 25psi... except for that bit of steel belt protruding from the tread.
Changed and on my way with zero damage to anything around it.
I would bet the before I saw anything odd (oh yes, it was just before sunrise and dark) the belt would have shredded and taken out the the tires in front and behind it... and maybe the fender for good measure.
I've lost a tire on a tandem and never felt a hitch in the trailer btw (I heard that one go BANG) and on my trip axle I'd bet I'd never feel anything odd towing until something big was broken. (same goes for the duallies on my Volvo)
So I have a TST.

RE: Universal key...is it yours?

The CH751 key also works on most control boxes for outdoor sprinkler systems
beat me to it... I was about to say the same thing - just learned that in the spring when we had an outdoor control box installed.
