RE: bumper allignment on GM

Thanks everyone for your posts.
I have been looking around, seeing a few with minor gaps, but not like this one.
click here to see some pics of the gaps
I did crawl under it. It was hard to see up in there, but did not see any obvious tool marks on what I could see.
I go back and forth have them straighten the bumper, then take it in for a pre-buy check, or just leave it... I think it is still for sale. They have called me a couple of times this morning already.
thanks for any input

RE: bumper allignment on GM

When the salesman says...."It's normal,"....that's when I start to worry.
:B That's why I came home truckless... Just thought I would check out his story, just incase there was a glimmer of truth...

RE: bumper allignment on GM

Sorry about that, yeah, the front bumper. The passenger side has a much larger gap between the headlight and the bumper than the drivers side does.
I am kind of wondering if this is a common problem, or if this dealer (sells used trucks only) just had a bunch of wrecks and wasn't good at straightening the bumpers??
Or if the truck came that way from the factory... If it came that way from the factory, I would say fix it, if it was an accident I would walk.
thanks

bumper allignment on GM

I was looking at a 2004 GMC 2500 Seirra today, and noticed the bumper was not alligned properly.
When I mentioned it to the sales guy, he said it was normal to see that on GMC/Chevy trucks. He showed me that if you walked around his lot that I would guess 1/2 of them were that way... I still walked away.
I really liked the truck, but wanted to make sure it was not in an accident. Autocheck said the truck was never in an accident. I have found a little on the subject of mis alligned bumpers, but not as much as I had hoped for.
What do you all think??
Thanks for any input

RE: unloaded truck camper

IMHO
Front a tad higher:
if you are loading/unloading
if the camper is going to sit (no puddles on roof)
Levelish camper: (regardless of if camper is on the truck or not)
if going to use
if fridge on
note: The older fridges used to be real touchy for staying level, but I think the newer fridges do better, but am in the habit of keeping it fairly level just in case...

RE: Roadside service

about a decade ago I was in Utah and my fan belt broke near Arches NP. Had AAA. The guy showed up with a flatbed and put the whole truck and TC on his truck. Dropped unloaded us at the Moab auto parts store. Granted our tc was ~9 ft a couple of feet lower than our current one...
Changed to Goodsam. Last year someone hit my parked car in Seattle. Took over 5 hours and several calls for the tow truck to show up.
I now have AAA again...

RE: Adventurer Grey tank

You know, another thought is you might try dumping it without the macerator on. Let's say you DO have a venting issue....the macerator forces it all through a very small hole, and perhaps it is very difficult to allow air to come back up the pipe. With a normal opened end dump, the air may very well come back up the drain pipe helping allow a decent flow and return of air. But now you block that with the macerator, and the poor venting comes into play.
Does it flow fast without the macerator? I'm just guessing here, but it seems with a macertor you are putting much more of a 'suck' so-to-speak on the end with a tight seal. I've never used one, so I don't know. But try testing without it and see how fast it comes out.
PS: Do you leave the black valve open when you are trying to run the grey through the macerator? That also could mean the macerator is pulling air from the black tank, reducing the pull from the grey.
I always close the black tank prior to opening the grey tank up. I was looking at my roof and noticed it does look like my pipe has slid down. (it was not like that when I bought it) Don't have time to check it out further right now. I don't know why I didn't think of the vent. I was having visions of them leaving the piece of plastic they poped out of the side of the tank for the pipe still being in the tank or something awful like that... course I have not fixed it yet...
I am also planning on washing the tank out. I noticed the 3-4 gal of grey water I dumped on the lawn looks like there are bits of tp. Figure maybe the previous owner pulled both valves at the same time and it back flushed the black into the grey?? And yes when I just dump with no macerator it is very slow.
just goes to show it doesn't matter how new the rig is, there is always something... just like a stick house...

RE: Adventurer Grey tank

btggraphix you were right the first time. I had both issues.
When I had the extra I was curious about a possibility of a U shaped tank, but that is pretty much a non issue, as the slow dumping tank is more bothersome.
It took a very long time to dump the grey tank. I did not time it, but it took longer to dump my 23 gal of grey with this rig than it did to dump my 80 gal grey tanks on my 5er...
I don't think it is ice. I had the heater on at night for the last couple of nights, and it has been over 40 during the day here. It starts and ends at the same rate.... slowwww...
I didn't think about a vent issue, that makes sense though. thanks

RE: Adventurer Grey tank

My point was not so much the sensors, as I don't usually go by them, just noticed them since the rig is new.
My point was I was surprised at how much water came out of the grey tank after moving the rig around in the yard immediately after dumping it.

Same problem here. I am sure they will fix it at least for those of us that are registered, but when not registered and I hit a site that was so annoying I just move on. maybe the powers that be want to reduce traffic on their servers. :W

Adventurer Grey tank

I was playing around with my new to me campers sewer system. Black dumped just fine. I used a macerator to dump it at home. I like to rinse with my grey water, and my macerator pumped faster than my grey wanted to flow:h
I was level while I dumped, then I pulled infront of the house to load up where my front bumper is signaficantly higher than the rear. I was checking my fresh tank on the monitor and it said my grey was 2/3 full. I got out a hose and pulled the handle, sure enough there was quite a bit of grey left. I am thinking the sensors are near the back of the tank.
I did notice the floor of the camper vibrates and makes a little racket both wile filling the grey tank and dumping.
Wondering if anyone knows if the grey tank is a weird shape or something:?
At least the problem is the grey tank, and not the black! Nothing I can't deal with...
The more I examine this camper the more I like it!
========
Off subject, how come I keep getting the don't be a lurker messages all of a sudden, even though I am logged on:h
IMHO, it kind of encourages one to not stay on the site.

RE: 97 TC in 04 Dodge?

As far as it fitting on your truck, I would ask the seller to measure the tailgate opening area of the camper. That is the hardest spot to fix.
It might also hit your roof where the cab over is, but you can fix that easily enough with wood in the back of the truck.
Dont know anything about tank sizes on that unit, but Western Wilderness had a good rep around that year...
good luck, hope this helps.

RE: Are Chevy 2008 2500HD Batteries already isolated

Sounds like it is best to test the vehicle in question. Maybe it depends on the year of the truck. I have an 2002 2500hd 6.0 gasser with the aux batt. The original aux batt was a starting batt, not a deep cycle. It takes a group 24, but I have to be careful, not all group 24's will fit due to height issues... anyway, mine came with th isolator already installed.
Not trusting the dealer, I tested the isolator before camping... works fine

RE: Newbie question about unloading camper, while using it.

We used to use ours off the truck at campgrounds until one day I was talking to my insurance agent and he told me I am only insured under my auto ins while it is on my truck, or my home owners insurance while off the truck at home.
so check with your insurance company first...

RE: generator a/c question from new guy

I had a polar cub in a camper that the honda eu2000i ran just fine.
Then I got a 2003 5er with a 13500btu a/c (can't remember brand) and if I turned off all other breakers it ran that one fine also.
seems to me that the 13500btu a/c units prior to around the year 2000 could not start up with the honda eu2000i, but there was a capacitor that could be added so that it would take less juice on start up. (a cheaper fix than buying a new polar cub)
hope this helps

RE: UltraHeat Tank Heaters

I have used these in 2 rigs.
First was a 1990 Real lite 9.5' TC. The black tank was out in the open by the back bumper. It was only 5 gal so I put a pipe heater on the tank, and insulated the dump valves that were hanging in the open.
Second was a 2003 Crossroads Cruiser 5er The tanks were inside, but the dump valves were hanging down. I put a pipe heater on each dump pipe.
Both rigs worked great. Granted I never went below 0F with either.

RE: Bed not wide enough - now what?

I picked up a 1970 Kit to put on my 2002 chevy. I knew it wouldn't fit, but I peeled apart the cabinet that stuck out in my way and cut off the excess. Put the camper on my truck and went home. Sealed it back up at home.
But... It wasn't a shower pan or anything, just a little extra floor space.
good luck

I had a tt years ago that that dinette setup would have been handy. We camped in Montana, and when you pulled the cushion away from the wall it was all frosty.
Did I read right?? 220v??
