RE: XM radio suggestions.

I recommend getting the Skyfi3. I have it in my car. You can use it to record music from XM then play it later like an MP3 player. It holds up to 10 hrs of music. It's easy to move it and I always take it with us in the coach You can pause it, replay and then fast forward. It can also be removed from its dock in the car and played in the house. I bought a base for the house and just bring it inside. You don't need another subscription. There are a number of possible bases you can get, maybe even one that is battery operated.....I haven't looked.

RE: what year is my motor home

Four Winds lists our Dutchman as a 2007 model, but it is built on a 2006 Ford Chasis. When the DMV registration came, it was registered as a 2007 Dutchman, which is how it should be. Heck, if they are going to use the chasis year, then it would be a 2006 Ford!!

RE: Good sites at Fallen Leaf Lake, CA

Okay, I'll share our favorite sites. 78 - you can walk over to the lake. 76, 75 and 81 are also good ones for being closer to the lake. And they are huge sites. Along Taylor Creek, we like 62, 60, 58 and 52... Now these are the ones we can get into. The rest of the ones along that side of the road are nice also, it's just the trees present issues for our longer rig. Early Spring and late fall is our favorite time of year. But before Memorial day, only part of the park is open. And it closes in Oct... Be sure and bring bicycles. There's lots of really great cycling there and the ride back to the other side of the lake is great on a bike. Thanks for the info....EVERYONE! Now I just have to wait for the reservation window to open

Good sites at Fallen Leaf Lake, CA

I know some don't like to share this type of info but I'd appreciate any info on the better sites at Fallen Leaf Lake (PM me if you'd prefer) We've never been there, have always stayed at Supar Pine Point campground. The sites there are wooded and fairly large. What are the sites at Fallen Leaf like? I'd like to get one of the larger sites that is somewhat shaded. Thanks

RE: Generator

Generators are pretty much standard in the state parks, Nat'l forests, etc. because very few parks have hookups. Most parks have a limit as to the hours of operation and a cut off time. The Honda is quieter than the standard Onan on our Class C. yes, you can hear them but you'd be surprised how quickly the sound drops off as you walk away from it. When we had our popup, we had a Yamaha 2000 and you could barely hear it outside the campsite. I was really surprised. The Hondas and Yamahas are pretty comparable in that aspect. I'd say if you plan on doing a lot of state park, nat'l forest type camping (at least out here) then invest in the Honda. You will be glad you did and it will last a long time.

RE: Morro Bay State Park

It's actually right on the edge of the town. There's a restaurant just down the road (walking distance) and the main town is just a few minutes from there. Just check it out on a map

RE: Avoid Oklahoma if retiring

No kidding or try California. Those taxes sound about even and maybe low to me. Next month I pay $13,700 in property tax (annual) and my assessed value is at least 20% below market :R Income tax up to 9 something %, 8.75+ sales tax. Oklahoma does not sound all that bad. Yeah, AND they just upped the withholding on the state income tax starting Nov 1st. It took almost $200 more out of my pay than Oct. Just read today that the Cal Regents is approving a 32% hike in registration fees (tuition). So much for affordable education

RE: Yosemite during the week

Yosemite is a VERY popular destination in the summer. Heck, I had to battle to get a site for spring break in April!!! Reservations are a must, even during the week. However, do not let that deter you from going there, you really should see it!! There are some photos of the park in the link in my signature. Your planned arrival time is kind of on the fringe of the really busy season (summer) and the spring season which has only the valley campgrounds open. If you can arrive LATE June, or better, early July, your best bet without reservations are the 1st come-1st served campgrounds. Their opening depends on the amount of snow we get this year. The web page I provided has a link to the projected opening dates of each campground. Follow it later in the spring and you'll get an idea. I actually prefer the 1st come-1st served sites outside the valley. We really like Bridaveil Creek which is at 7,200', so much cooler than the valley (mid-80s compared to low 100s). While it is a longer drive down to the valley, there is much more to Yosemite than just the valley itself. To see the entire Park, you will need to drive no matter where you camp. Your rig will fit in most of them no problem.....just look at our site up at Bridaveil: http://inlinethumb38.webshots.com/3557/2949202380051643869S600x600Q85.jpg width=640 http://inlinethumb25.webshots.com/14488/2586073980051643869S600x600Q85.jpg width=640

RE: OK....Who got my favorite site at Yosemite yesterday???!!!

How many nights in a block were you searching? I always try for Sunday to Thursday as the weekend goes fast and furious. Also first week is very difficult because you can arrive on the 28th and reserve for two weeks so the first week may have been already gone last month. Yup, that's what we do as well. That's the best way to get a site in the 1st come-1st served ones as well. Unfortunately, the DW is a teacher at a different school and her spring break is the week of 3/29-4/2, while the kids break is 4/2-4/9. Thus, made them from 4/1/10-4/7/10. Then, she can come for a few days then drive back, while the kids and I remain longer

RE: OK....Who got my favorite site at Yosemite yesterday???!!!

We are gonna be there right after Memorial Day. Couple years we stayed just outside the park in a tent. I don't think they have rv sites in the campground we were in. How are the campsites inside the park. I have read where they were crowded? What do you like? Thanks The valley is crowded in the summer and most weekends. The sites themselves are not bad. There are some close to each other and others that are bigger and spread out more. I rode through the park on my bike on my first trip and marked all the sites I liked. If you really want nice sites in a less crowded campground, I would suggest trying for one of the 1st come-1st served campgrounds. We stayed at Bridaveil and it was great. Here are some shots of our campsite: http://inlinethumb38.webshots.com/3557/2949202380051643869S600x600Q85.jpg width=640 http://inlinethumb25.webshots.com/14488/2586073980051643869S600x600Q85.jpg width=640

RE: OK....Who got my favorite site at Yosemite yesterday???!!!

This is a stupid question but are there no hookup in Yosemite. We would like to go there in June on our trip out west but friends that are traveling with us do not have a generator. Any good campgrounds close by with full hookups are at least electricity? Thanks in advance Nope, no hook-ups in the park whatsoever. Years ago when they planned to upgrade the campgrounds they were planning on putting in electric. I believe there were environmental challenges to creating more campsites, more roads, etc and the entire plan was modified down quite a bit....including the plan to add electric hookups. I actually think putting electric would BENEFIT the quality, since there would be no need for everyone to run their generator. That would make a big difference in the air quality in the valley. As for other campgrounds, there is a very nice campground outside the park on the south west side: Yosemite Pines. If you are coming without reservations, there are a few very nice 1st come-1st served campgrounds. Maybe your friends could rent a generator or buy a small Honda, etc. It would be well worth it.

RE: ~Post your campsite photos here~

Nice pics Linda. Looks like you had a nice weather. Did you have to reserve that site months ago?

RE: Chains on my Class C.....which wheel

Thanks for all the info everyone. Truthfully, I'd rather not drive any real distance in conditions where I'd need the chains, but I want them in the event they become necessary. Thus, I'll probably be putting them on in the snow/cold. I guess ease of installation would be a factor.

RE: Chains on my Class C.....which wheel

I bought and have used dually chains - they fit over both tires. I found that to be fairly easy to do (no reaching between the tires at all) and meets even the most stringent requirement. Sometimes (rarely) you might be required to have chains on both tires on each side for your duallies. Interesting. Do you mean the chains fit over both the tires as one big "net'? That does seem like it would be easy to put on. Where did you get them and how much do they run? thanks Yes, that's exactly what I mean. About $118, looks like. I bought them here: http://www.tirechain.com/225-75R-16LT.htm, I think. I got the v-bars on them: http://www.tirechain.com/images/4WOR2.JPG When installed, they look something like the picture in the next post (which does not show the v-bar). The only real down side is that these are really quite heavy.

RE: Fleas and Ticks in the RGV

Don't know what RGV is? I guess they have never heard of the Rio Grand Valley of Texas for snowbirds..... Or they just have never seen it abbreviated........

Chains on my Class C.....which wheel

Last spring we went to Yosemite in April and it snowed. They wouldn't let me drive into the park without chains on. That was the first time I even thought about chains on the MH. Now we are planning a trip to Cedar City, Utah and they get snow. So, has anyone put chains on their MH? Which of the rear tires on my dually should they be on? The Cal DOT says should be on inside tires if possible.....is it?

RE: OK....Who got my favorite site at Yosemite yesterday???!!!

Must be because it's the week of spring break. Don't know, but there are no sites in any of the 3 valley campgrounds for a 6 day reservation during that period. If I wanted the next week or two there are a bunch available but the boys will be back in school and my wife back teaching. At that time of year we like being a close to the river as possible....the DW loves the sound of the water at night. Tried for all the sites near the river and they were gone.

OK....Who got my favorite site at Yosemite yesterday???!!!

So yesterday before 7am I'm sitting at the computer with 4 separate tabs open with my top 4 sites ready for the reservation window to open for next April. My clock hits 7am and I hit enter on every tab....AND......crap..they're all taken. :h As I scramble to reload each page with new site choices, I'm watching watching the available sites drop like drunken college freshman at a sorority dance!!! Finally, after about 5 mins I get a site, as the last few available fill up. WOW, sure didn't think I'd have that much trouble getting a site for the 1st week in...... APRIL. :M Soooo, fess up, who took #60 in Lower Pines? Or site 520 or 506 in North Pines :@
