RE: Leadville CO area questions

we were at molly brown last june. our site (6) was right on the lake. our 26 footer fit perfectly but I think anything bigger might have had some issues. in site 6, we had to back down the driveway. which I didn't know until I got there. make res for august right away. the res window for recreation.gov is 6 months. not sure about sites at the other cgs there. I road my bike through them but didn't look at any specific sites. I did, however, feel that molly brown was the best of the cgs there.

RE: Yellowstone NE entrance.

I don't believe anyone has commented on the age of you vehicle. if your tv is still the'02, I would rethink any trip of that distance from IL. my '02 sits in the garage most of the year (I drive it locally nov to march and snowplow my driveway with it) and do not pull my trailer with it anymore. 14 - 15 years old, yikes. since my '02 turned 10 it has been in the shop about once per month. well, on second thought, maybe I can pull some more since half the parts including: transmission, drive shaft, water pump, exhaust, transfer case, rear axle, etc. are rebuilt or new.

RE: Milwaukee Area Campgrounds for a 5th Wheel

like mentioned above, Ottawa lake is nice. another state park is pike lake about 30 miles nw of Milwaukee between Hartford and slinger on hwy 60. we stay in sites 29 and 31 which are nice, big, and easy to get into. you have to drive through the rest of the loop, which is narrow, to get to these but if you go slow you would make it. playful goose is too far away at about 55 miles.

RE: Cheyenne State Park, Colorado Springs,CO

we were in that area for a week last june and did most of the stuff listed by others. we, however, decided to stay at Mueller state park (on 67 south of divide) rather than Cheyenne mtn. Mueller had forest around the sites while Cheyenne was pretty much in the open . it was a little farther to drive to do stuff but we felt that it was worth it.

RE: Ram 3.21 rear end towing

you won't set speed records going uphill but you should be ok. I have ram 1500 2015 with the 8 speed/3.21 transmission quad cab 4x4 and just got back from a Colorado trip. it definitely pulled better than my ram 1500 2002 with the 5.9 with 4 speed w overdrive (5th gear). not sure what the axle ratio was. pulled same 6500 lbs. loaded 26ft trailer. used tow/haul on 2015 which on the 8 speed knocked it down a couple gears. on the 2002 took one gear down (canceled overdrive). the 2015 got 12.5 mpg compared to the 2002 which got 8.5 on the exact same trip. you will like the improved mpg's a lot, I did. kept the speed to about 60 mph with an occasional 65.

RE: Entry Step Supports?

after 10 years of use a weld on one of my steps broke. I had the local blacksmith make and weld gussets on each side of the step. it is now rock solid.

RE: See Little Bighorn and Devil's Tower "on the run"?

spend one night at each place. then you can take your time. there are ranger programs at little bighorn. been to devils tower 4 times. every time we are out that way. first time we stayed at the koa. the last 3 were at belle fourche in devils tower. no hook-ups but good views, more room, and a lot cheaper.

RE: Bryce/Zion cg? Colorado Springs cg? Mesa Verde cg?

we were just in Colorado in june. great weather. I've seen that the springs had some snow and rain which caused some flash floods last week. anyway, we stayed at Mueller state park rather than Cheyenne. it is farther from the attractions but it has nice shaded sites whereas at Cheyenne mtn there is no shade. went to mesa verde a few years ago and stayed right at the campground there (morefield?). nothing fancy but it had electric and it was right there. didn't go to Utah.
