RE: Wiindows 7 - Good Bad or SoSo

I've been using XP home for a number of years. Never used Vista in any form. I knew I wanted to give 7 a shot, So I took this opportunity to strip out all the guts from one of my cases, and upgrade all the hardware and buy a copy of Win 7 64bit home premium OEM. Now I'm running an AMD dual core 3.0Ghz processor and 4G memory. It only took maybe a half hour or less to install 7, and it was absolutely painless. It found all the drivers on it's own. I had no problems. It looks different from XP, but I'm gradually finding everything. I found the home networking (Sharing between computers)to be a bit strange, but I got it running. The more I use it, the more I like it. I will say, that if you are a happy XP user, then stay with it if you want to. I see no compelling reason to change at this time.

RE: Scary moment

I am far from being a person with lengthy experience with 5th wheels, but this is what I do when hitching. I back up to the point where the truck hitch is just shy of the trailer hitch. Both have a bit of a slope on the edges that are nearest to each other. Lower the legs on the trailer until the sloped edges are going to be forced to ride up each other. As you back under the trailer, the king pin will have no choice but to seat properly into the lock. This method has always worked for me.

RE: Quick MSCONFIG question

I don't know anything about these programs you asked about. But in my case, I have been running this computer, which is my daily driver, for about 4 yrs. in the selective startup mode without any problems. Just the other day I went back in msconfig and dropped a couple of things off the startup list. I've never had a problem, your mileage may vary. Good luck.

RE: Quick MSCONFIG question

My computers are always in selective startup. Never bothered them at all. I don't even think about it. I want to keep those programs from running at startup. MSConfig is the easiest way to accomplish that.

RE: Quicken 2010 is now available

I've been using Quicken since 1992 (that's right, I have 17 yrs. of records on Quicken). I would find it difficult to live without it. I am currently using the 2008 Deluxe version. I normally update whenever I see an improvement that I would like to have. I don't think they have that improvement yet.
It takes a couple of months to get everything straightened out when first starting Quicken. But after that, the checkbook always balances, if you are diligent in entering transactions. If you are the type of person who spends without keeping records, nothing will help. I recommend Quicken for all your personal financial bookkeeping.

RE: Why shouldn't I?

Yeah, well the first time you have a blowout and it rips out $3000 worth of sheet metal and/or fiberglass you'll sure wish you had spent the 600 or so for the TPMS.
You can still throw the tread doing the damage and the casing still holds the air fine. TPMS is good but not a guaranty.
I've had that happen to me on a class C motorhome. Took out some propane lines and bent the exhaust pipe.

RE: RV Satillite Dish

As to the tripod blowing over in the wind.....I have a Dish 500 that I mounted to a simple cross of 2x4's. It sits flat on the ground. I level it with rocks or whatever I can find on the ground in order to plumb the mast. On a couple of occasions, we had winds strong enough to feel rocking the RV, and the dish stayed on signal. Now I use my Carryout. So much easier.
For the network stations problem.....AllAmericanDirect.com at 888 541-2255. They have a form to fill out, send a copy of your RV registration, fill in the receiver ID's of your receivers(all of them). They will activate the distant programming on the receivers you designate. You can get east and/or west coast stations. I believe you also can now get HD if you so choose. All for a price of course. I pay them every 6 months.

RE: Winegard Carryout GM-1518

It does have 2 coax connection points, however it only points to 1 satellite at a time. It will point to whatever satellite the receiver connected to the primary coax connector requires.

RE: greasing bearings

I use the fittings and a hand gun while rotating the wheel. No problem, thats what they are designed for. Use a compatible grease. You can find all the information on the Dexter website. It takes a while to fill them up the first time you do it.

RE: Rhino Lining the Roof?

You may not keep your RV for 25 years, But someone else will end up with it after you're done. Some of these other options are worth looking into for a roof that is past it's prime. Most rubber roofs are getting vulnerable after 15 yrs. There are many 15 year old rv's in service.
The manufacturers use rubber roofs for one reason only, money. They are the most cost effective way to get the RV out the door. It doesn't mean that rubber roofs are the best answer. It also doesn't mean they are not the answer. Exploring alternatives is a worthwhile endeavor for anyone needing to replace an aging roof. I have Rhino lining in the bed of my truck. It is somewhat flexible, definitely not brittle. I can see the possibilities, definitely want white though! I don't believe that it would be as heavy as the rubber roof is. One would definitely want to remove the bad rubber first, before coating it with anything else.

RE: Dish Network

"On my fifth wheel were I plug in the cable wire there is also a plug that says satellite, so I assume that is were I would plug the sat cable to make it work."
"go direct to the receiver( not through the above mentioned trailer input)"
You may lose your signal strength by going through your RV wiring from the outside because most RV manufacturers use RG 59 cable altough the sattelite manufacturers insist that you use RG 6 cable between the Dish and the Receiver. Try using your outside jack, but also try using an RG 6 cable directly between the receiver and Dish and if your RV wiring is RG 59 you may find you get a much stronger signal with the direct connection using RG 6.
The signal loss for that distance will be insignificant. The db loss at the connector will be greater than the cable db loss. RG6 is recommended and necessary for some purposes and installations. In this application it would not make a difference. Don't worry about that. A stronger signal will not mean a better picture.

RE: Dish 500 Satellite setup

When moving my Dish receiver to my tt is it necessary to run the check switch test if the LNB's are identical on both dish antennas?
I know that I must make the changes for the new location in the setup menu.
Try it. If it works properly, you're good to go. If not, then run check switch. And, no, you don't have to make any changes about location in the setup menu. It does nothing but give you dish pointing information.

RE: Olevia TV

Some cable is still analog??????????? I thought Uncle Sam said everyone would be digital sometime in june 2009. This Olevia TV is the most UNfriendly device I've used. Plus their customer support only works 8am-5pm week days, wow, what a company. What happened to 24/7 support. Additionaly, if you go to olevia.com you will get "page not found". We have a Vizio at home and it is a walk in the park to program.
Uncle Sam said everyone broadcasting over the air in full power would be digital( Which, by the way does not mean HD).Full power, yes. But low power stations exempt. Info on Low Power Analog TV stations. and Lists of Analog low power stations by state.
That is correct, just as I stated in the rest of my post, as copied and pasted below.
Uncle Sam said everyone broadcasting over the air in full power would be digital( Which, by the way does not mean HD). This did not in any way affect the cable companies, or the low power over the air analog broadcasters.

RE: Dish Network

Thanks everyone for all of the advice. I looked on ebay and have found a satellite tripod dish 500 that will work with my reciever and it is only $89.00 brand new. It includes the dish, tripod, twin lnb's, signal finder, compass, level and wrench, 50 feet of cable with the ends installed and a 8 inch flat cable. I thought this sounded like a good deal. On my fifth wheel were I plug in the cable wire there is also a plug that says satellite, so I assume that is were I would plug the sat cable to make it work. Is this what everyone else does or do they run the cable directly in to the camper and plug directly into the tv.
This does sound like a good deal. You probably can connect to the input labeled satellite, although there should be a matching connector inside as well. I connect mine in my Laredo this way.
The first time you try it, I would suggest that you do it at home, allow plenty of time to fool with it, go direct to the receiver( not through the above mentioned trailer input), and do some searching in this forum about aiming and setting up the dish to the receiver. Once you are successful the first time, it will get easier after that. Be sure and read up on it first. This topic is discussed almost daily in this forum. It's not like hooking an over the air antenna to a TV. Good luck.

RE: Set Winegard Carry About on top of Slide?

If the Carry About is anything like the Carryout:W, Then you can place it anywhere you like. So far , I have always found a spot on the ground. With the shape of the unit and the rubber feet, I don't believe that wind (within reason) would be a problem.
