RE: Protect your Credit Cards at Syracuse Rally

But the OP is of the opinion that the card was compromised while not in use. What would that have to do with the PIN or magnetic strip? But you do have a point: "It isn't a perfect system..." :)

RE: Protect your Credit Cards at Syracuse Rally

My understanding is that the OP had a chipped card from Canada. :)

RE: Seems like they all do this

From my understanding some things only come in a package. Maybe the navigation system is only available with a certain package that also includes leather seats. I always buy used so I never have dealt with it. :)

RE: Difference between single rear wheel and dually rear wheel

Just step behind the truck and check out the overall wheelbase on the dually versus the single rear wheel. That much more of a stance will, IMO, make the dually more stable. Of course in the case of a flat tire on the rear there is another wheel on the same side to help keep things more controllable.

RE: Strapping down toys?`

I don't believe it would be as much of an issue with dirt bikes since they don't weight anywhere near as much as a street bike. There would be a lot less weight moving back and forth so IMO, with a dirt bike, you could put them however you want without much of an issue.

RE: fridge fan

Got one of THESE for both the coach and TC, work great. The RV has a little more sophisticated frige so it was easy to hook up the fan to start when the frig is turned on. The truck camper was a little more challenging, had to run the hot lead down the condensate drain to find power, it turns on by clipping it to the fins when I fire up the frig.
No relationship with the seller other than being a happy customer.
I like the looks of that set-up although the amount of air movement seems to be a bit of overkill. I like that it hooks directly on the fins. Thanks.

RE: Any 5th wheel hitch operate exactly like a semi 5th wheel?

B&W is the most fool proof hitch out there. Never pin the handle open, that is what happened to the guy on here and forgot to pull the pin and finish latching got distracted and drove off.
That is the only time I have ever heard of a B&W and bed damage.
I never do a pull test and don't have a bed saver.
I always LOCK the handle closed, there are jerks out there.
Um you proved my point....it isn't the most fool proof hitch. You have to manually pin it locked.
On some situations I have had to pin it open because it won't stay open on it own, it wants to close. Or partially close
Well, not really. When you back into the hitch with the 5er and the handle swings back, the hitch is locked. You can drive away at that point if you wished. The handle does not lock the hitch, the handle unlocks the hitch. Putting the pin in keeps someone from opening the handle unlocking the hitch. But if that handle swings back when you hitch up, that 5er ain't goin' nowhere.
It really sounds like your hitch needs some adjustment. Mine has never failed to stay open when hitching up.

RE: fridge fan

Dunno about the Camco one but we have the Valterra and it works like it says it does. Circulates the air in the fridge, and the batteries last a long time.

RE: Help with gun selection

No offense, but a .22 caliber pistol can be just as deadly as any other pistol. And if you can hit what you aim at with that .22 you're a lot more deadly than that .44 magnum toting galoot that flinches from the recoil. And most people can get off more aimed shots faster with a .22 than with a something with more recoil. Size matters, but not as much as you think. ;)

RE: 2012 Raptor with Towmasters = BOOOM!!!

Mod: personally I'm still waiting for someone to answer my serious question why there is no correlation between the weight of a tire and its (possible) quality.
You really didnt expect a serious answer from a tire tread did ya?:BWas that pun deliberate? :)

RE: Strapping down toys?`

I tied ours down sideways when I had them on a trailer behind the 5er. Generally speaking you have to secure them better since they will tend to rock side to side if they are loose. Unless I absolutely had to I would not tie them sideways, front to back just works too much better.

RE: China Bombs Got Me

What type of valve stems? Plastic, steel, rubber???
The OP stated the tires failed from tread separation, nothing to do with valve stems???
Yes it can and does.
I personally saw it. I bought 6 new tires and headed out to Houston.
I had a rear blow out.
The tire looked just like a retread gone bad. I too swore it was a bad tire, and was real ticked off about it. But the rest of trip would prove otherwise.
A tire going flat and not caught usually in case of the duals in the rear and driven on doesn't always 'just go flat'. The heat of driving on it separates the tire.
I had 2 more flats on that trip. Thankfully caught while off the road.
The third road side semi tow truck driver caught it. RUBBER valve stems. I was driving in Houston in summer, temp was 112, I was driving real long hours per day. The valve stems where heating up to the point of melting.
New tires and tire store put on rubber valve stems. I could have checked the air pressure in those tires 10 times a day and come up with the correct air, it wasn't going to help tell me when the valve stems would start to fail.
Failed valve stems, loosing air, continue driving on it and the end result will look just like a separated tire. Real sorry I didn't take a picture of it.
With melted valve stems the road must have been littered with cars too, since every car I've ever seen has rubber valve stems.

RE: Any 5th wheel hitch operate exactly like a semi 5th wheel?

Seems odd that you have trouble with yours. I've had mine for nearly 8 years and only recently found out about pinning the release arm back. I pull the arm back and back the truck into the pin, the release arm flips back and the trailer is locked. I've never not had that happen. True, sometimes the release arm won't unlatch, but that is only when there is some tension on the hitch. Moving the truck a little to unload the hitch is all it takes. I've never pinned the arm back while unhitching.
I love my B&W hitch. :)

Truth be told I'd be more worried about the hogs than the alligators. Hogs can be downright vicious.

RE: Help with gun selection

Pistols with rifled barrels do very poorly with shotgun shells as the rifling spreads the shot immensely. My advice is to carry a shotgun with both shot and slugs. It's easier to hit something with a shotgun/rifle than a pistol. Maybe a 20 gauge shotgun single shot which would be light weight and the recoil with the light weight won't be as fierce as a 12 gauge. JMO doncha know.

RE: Off brand ATV's

If you bought him a cheap bicycle, buy him a cheap ATV. If you only keep it a couple years you may be okay. But don't count on dealers and parts being around for very long. They disappear pretty quickly.

I'm very happy with my B&W Companion hitch. It leaves a clean bed when removed since it doesn't use rails.

RE: Camper Storage questions about steel carports?

I don't have the room, but if I did I would have one for sure. I think very secure support/restraint system would be necessary on those very windy (think strong weather) days. That would be my only concern. I would probably sink some concrete supports and bolt the whole thing down. JMO of course.
