RE: AC WINDOW UNIT

This is why we've decided to stay with our highly insulated brand of 5er rather than switch to a MH.
We have 2 AC's, 15k & 13.5k. With the addition of table fans, insulated dual cell shades and lined curtains, we managed to live in San Antonio through all of last July, then we moved to Augusta, GA's high humidity and 100 degrees in the full sun for the rest of the summer. I can keep the 5er 22 degs cooler than the outside temp.
While in SA, we had both AC's serviced by a Mobile Tech and they worked even better. He called it boiling and show DH the before and after photos. Small price to pay for comfort since I'm home all day while DH is at work.

RE: CG Directory

I finally tossed our hard copy campground directories earlier this year. The smartphones and iPads have plenty of apps to find RV Parks. And they also have Bing to do web searches to find others. We can get more accurate RVP reviews online.

You are right take the high road you never know who carries a gun.
I agree. Woke up at 11:30 and was sure I heard 5 shots last night. Pow Pow..Pow Pow Pow. Didn't see any activity in the RVPark, so might have been from the road.

RE: My Grandmother's Pot Roast

I like one-pot meals since it's easier at clean-up time in an RV.
But I'm more inclined to put a roast in the Flavorwave Oven, pop in some frozen steamed veggies in the microwave and heat up half a container of Bob Evans garlic mashed potatoes.
Then leftover roast is reheated with other half of mashed tators or great in hash!

RE: Holy Cow, What a week

We were lucky and started fulltiming long before we expected to be able to at retirement. We were also lucky that one of our sons had a heated/cooled basement room to store most of our boxes. He also got use of some of our furniture to repay him for storage space. Mainly because we weren't sure working and fulltiming would be what we wanted to do and it had taken years to accumulate some of our furniture.
8 years later, we've since whittled down to a few irreplaceable photo boxes, put all the old home movies on DVD's and given away much of what we will never use again. Three years ago, we set up our 'guest room' at our daughter's when we're only visiting for a weekend. She's now using the furniture and it's holding up quite well. Our guest room has a walk-in closet with the few remaining boxes we can't part with.

RE: LED 'puck' light replacement

We also replaced only the bulbs in many of our puck lights. They are a slightly different style with glass, no plastic surround. Big difference, no heat generated anymore. Those that didn't get replaced aren't used much and saved us in cost.
We used other sources than Ebay. So shop around.

RE: Cabinet Mod for a Roadtrek TV cabinet

Remember, the new LED's are much thinner than LCD's. In our bedroom, we replaced a 19" that fit between cabinets to a 26" on an articulating arm that fits nearly flush with the cabinets. Now it can be tilted up or down and sideways. Which helps because when I open the side cabinets, it's necessary to push it out a little.
We were so happy with it, we replaced the 40" LCD with a 46" LED in the living room. Could have gone slightly larger, but because our LR is on a lift, the other sizes would have needed to have cabinet opening cut out slightly. We didn't want to go to that expense.

RE: Charging Problems

Don't know which type of unit you have, but we have a switch to pull out or push in depending on if we want to keep recharging the batteries. Ours is located on the exterior where the controls are for the hydraulic landing gear.

RE: Stolen Camper

We added the Ravelco during our first month in San Antonio, after DH's subs kept telling him his truck was going to be heading over the MX border soon.
The installer came out to DH's jobsite and did it one afternoon.

RE: Trailer Life vs Motorhome magazine

Good Sam is now offering you either Trailer or MH Mag with your Highway Mag. Just read this today on the Good Sam website. They will give you an issue (your choice) every quarter with a Highway Mag added in with no Ads in the Highway.
Begins in Feb 2014. You need to let them know your preferences, so go to GS Club and read the announcement.

RE: tiny house anyone?

IMHO: Tiny homes on wheels, Tumbleweed Tiny Houses, are way too tiny for more than one. The one on your link is really a small cabin in the woods. So having it placed semi-permanently on an RV Lot, might not work.
We've seen a lot of Park Models in southern RV Parks, but not many north of the Mason-Dixon line. Unless they are set up in Mobile Home parks.

RE: Football Hall of Fame

We drove down from North Springfield, PA for the day. We stopped at Camping World in Akron first for a few supplies, then on to Canton. If I remember right, they had a couple of overnighters in the parking lot.
BTW: I don't enjoy football, but do like History. Both DH and I enjoyed the tour of the museum.

RE: When the rubber meets the road

Ok
We already donated. Wasn't much, but know any little bit is appreciated.
We had to replace our tires in Sept of 2012, because in July while going across the south on I-10, we lost most of the tread on one. They were dated 3 wk of March 2008. They looked great!

RE: Camping while traveling

We tend to use private CG's using Passport America, Good Sam or an occasional KOA for discounts. We have membership cards for all 3 and call about 60-90 mins before our arrival to check for a pull through space if possible.
After a long drive, we never hook up the sewer, rarely the water, but like to have power for 2 AC's or 2 furnaces depending on the time of year. We like to have 50amp power to cool the fridge down and relax with some TV and a hot microwave meal or sandwich to save costs instead of driving to a restaurant.

RE: Replaced the table with reclining loveseat

I think Loveseats should be an option in all TC's. We use a leather one in our 5er. It gets more use than the dinette.

RE: Full-timing with an infant

The problem I had with a toddler is all the switches in a Class A. I can remember my son hitting the air horns at 2 am. Another favorite stunt was to start the generator (or at least crank it over) from the bedroom convenience switch.
We've been in many Cls A's where the slideout switches are in the hallway and easily bumped by adults.
We started out with a 5er and taking our just turned 4yo DGD with us on the road. We never had any problems with switches because they were always in a high closed cabinet. One time with the gas oven knobs were within her reach.
Luckily, the space is so small, we could keep a good eye on her.

RE: Canadians buying RV lots in Florida

We bought a lot in north GA last year. It was a For sale by owner and they are carrying the contract. We didn't want to hassle looking for financing as we were in TX at the time.
Found it online through RVProperty.com.
I'm sorry, we found ours on Lots for sale

I've been following Chalet's posts on Facebook. Someone pointed out they have the 2014 all decked out for sale in TX. MSRP of over $72k, but their price was $62+. Not your everyday camper.
