RE: Wrecked RV

I can tell you one thing with absolute certainty. If the OP does not ask for a rental coach and he doesn't ask for loss of value, and he doesn't ask for loss of use, he will not get any of those things. I'm not saying that if he asks, he'll get it, merely that if he doesn't ask for it, he will never receive it. The company to ask, is the company that damaged his coach. And no, once CW purchased insurance, they are not off the hook for damages. They are covered by their insurance to the extent of the policy description. Anything beyond that is potentially their responsibility. Besides, in all probability, they are self-insured.

RE: Generator Clacking

I wanted to update everyone on this problem. Today, I picked up the MH because I've got a camping trip planned for Friday. They completed two thirds of the fix. The fix consists of three things. 1) A recirculating fuel line that creates a loop where the fuel can condense and remain a liquid to prevent vapor lock, 2) A heat shield to prevent engine heat from heating the generator and line too much and 3) a re-route of the existing exhaust from under the fuel pump to the back of the motorhome. They did #1 and #2 but they didn't have the tail pipe to complete #3. On the way home today, I didn't notice any clacking sound but will give this a full test on Friday. Wish me luck.

RE: Just a Picture of a Go anywhere Class A

Why is the shadow from the mirror going straight down as if it's noon, but the shadow on the ground is going straight forward as if it's later in the day?

RE: Generator Clacking

I haven't read this whole thread, but since the overheating happens when the RV is moving, try adding a sheet metal deflector or two to channel air where you need it or hot air away from where you don't. Maybe a small weather-resistant 12v fan too? A low cost, low effort possible fix. I believe that is part of Fleetwood's fix. I'll keep you posted.

RE: Generator Clacking

What a timely post. I have an update to report. After extensive investigation, Fleetwood has come up with a fix for this problem. It consists of two separate fixes. 1) They are re-routing the exhaust to the back of the motorhome to help keep the generator cool. This is such an obvious thing that I'm surprised they put it in this way to begin with. A closed door blocking the generator right behind the chasis engine is bound to get hot so re-routing the exhaust will clearly help. 2) They are installing some sort of device to prevent vapor lock. From the way they described it, it is some sort of T-valve that allows liquid fuel to continuously cool the fuel near the carburator and prevent the gasoline from vaporizing. Even if it does vaporize, the continuous flow of fuel should prevent the carburator from sucking dry. I am having a hard time understanding how this device will work but will hopefully see it installed soon. I will keep you all posted when I get the coach back from the dealer in a few days.

RE: Anyone ever regret upgrading

I just want to know where the six separate sleeping areas are in a Fleetwood Storm? ....:h 1) Front drop down Bunk over drivers area 2) Dinette 3) Jack knife couch 4) Upper rear bunk 5) Lower rear bunk 6) Master Bed It sleeps 10 people comfortably. The rear bunk beds also convert into a rear dinette which becomes my mini man cave area. This floor plan is extremely versatile.

Anyone ever regret upgrading

The vast majority of the posts I read about upgrading show a positive experience. The only thing folks seam to regret is that they didn't do it sooner. But I'm not sure I'd feel the same way. I'm 95% pleased with my current rig. The floor-plan is almost perfect for my needs with its 6 separate sleeping areas, I have so much flexibility on where I can put my kids and their guests. In addition, over the years, I've improved the suspension and installed custom upgrades to really dial in the coach to my exact standards. There are only two things bothering me about my coach. 1st, it is a gasser. I'd really like to have a quite coach and a better fuel economy. My ride handling is pretty good as it is, but I understand a diesel pusher would be even better. and 2nd, I'd love to have a bath and a half for my kids and their guests. Other than that, I'm completely happy with what I have. So should I even think about upgrading? My fear is that if I did, I might be happy with the DP and the 1.5 baths, but I'm almost certain, I'd miss a lot of the other features of my current rig. So my question is this, did any of you ever upgrade and then miss your old rig?

RE: Light Bulbs

At this point, I think LED bulbs for "more light" is risky. I replaced all my bulbs with LEDs but mine produce less light than the originals, not more light. Things are developing quickly in this field however, and there are more choices every week. I'm afraid you'll just have to experiment with the bulbs that promise the most lumens.

RE: Newbie Confused and Excited - Starting out

We (the Wife and I) have the same difficulty except we have 2 Harley's to make room for. We've been looking at the Newmar Canyon Star 3920 class A which has a garage and normal bedroom. Then we can have the toad, the bikes and the grill!! click for 3920 Dave That looks like the most awesome rig ever. Virtually no compromises. He could have a custom hitch made to carry the bike and extend out to pull a toad. lastly, his toad could be a pickup truck which could haul the bike.

That's a great shower setup you've created. I'd love to see more detailed pictures posted. Particularly of the inside drain functions.

RE: how to collect gray water from a solar shower?

You could always use a plastic tub or inflatable pool as some have mentioned and then pump the water out to a blue tote or other portable container. They even make water pumps that attach to an electric drill. That way, you could pump the water out to the back of your car or truck.

RE: Generator Clacking

My Onan 4kw generator has been making a clack, clack, clack noise since I purchased my motorhome... I have read the entire thread. Does the fuel pump EVER quiet up during the prime process? I can tell when my Onan 5.5 is fully primed when the clacking stops and the pump silences to a slight buzzing sound. Knowing that you have the fuel pump replaced, and your descriptions of the systems, I am going to try an online diagnosis: It is my first opinion that there is a leak somewhere in the fuel line/fittings/etc between the tank and the genset. This would be like having a small leak in a soda straw. While with a small leak you can actually sip soda, you can never get the full delivery as if there were no leak. There is a second possibility though. It could be that the float needle in the genset carb is not seating fully. However, you don't indicate that over priming seems to cause a flooded condition. And, it really sounds to me like you believe it to be a fuel starvation issue and not a flooding issue. Third, and unlikely (but possible) is that for whatever reason everything above is fine, but you still have a bad fuel pump. This is one of those issues where if many of us were simply there in person it would not take much to determine the root cause. It is frustrating to see people like you take time and money to pay professionals only to continue to have the same problem. I do understand very well that sometimes the problem is complicated, and multiple steps have to be taken in some instances, but this problem really seems to troubleshoot down to three fairly simple things to check. Good Luck Thanks for the comments. Yes, the pump does quiet but not during the priming process. When the system is hot and the generator shuts down, it seams to clack forever. I have not, however, held it down for minutes to find out if it will eventually stop clacking. I doubt it is a leak because I had Ford drop the tank and do a smoke test. Of course the coach was cool at the time they did the test so a leak is very possible as the coach heats up. Could it be the float needle in the genset carb? Perhaps, but would the clacking persist even if the generator was priming and the genset turned off? Unlikely it is a bad fuel pump because the brand new one does exactly the same thing. RE: Noise reduction headphones

I use the Bose Quite Comfort II headset with my cell phone and iPad. It has the noise canceling on the earphones but not the microphone. I think you are more concerned about the microphone than the headphone because you want the other folks on your calls to hear you. The good news is that you don't need a fancy microphone to get noise canceling. Virtually any directional microphone will give you good noise canceling results simply by nature of the design. So my recommendation to you would be to focus on the microphone design and don't worry about the term "noise canceling."

RE: Generator Clacking

Holstein, The fuel pump clacking noise has got me baffled. Ours is mounted fairly solid and the noise is very low, unless you are at the generator when priming it. Have you gotten any further with the shut-off problem? Those temps are not unusual when driving in hot weather. You have verified that the baffles are in place on the bottom of the generator? If they are, then adding some sheet metal baffles to help get cooler air when driving down the road. As for the fuel pump noise, maybe try rubber mounting the pump to isolate the noise. Maybe use sections of tire side wall as isolators. I should specify that the loud clacking noise only occurs when the generator / MH is hot. Otherwise, the fuel pump is very quite. I received a call from Fleetwood on Friday and apparently, they are working to isolate the problem as several other MHs are exhibiting the same problem. At this point, they are almost certain it is heat related, but they asked me to not do anything further until they respond with their recommendations.

RE: Tiffin

I'm curious. Does tiffin make money on their service dept? If so, wouldn't they want to expand and hire technicians? If they lose money, I can see why they would want to under staff.

RE: Improving the ride and handling

For the bone jarring ride, I would adjust tire pressure, then go with an airbag suspension. For the sway and roll start with the cheap handling fix then add a rear track bar.
