RE: questions from a Class C beginner

On question number 2, any particular reasoning for limiting the size? Yes, my wife says so. Her daily driver is a suburban and she already thinks that is to big. So she would prefer we look at the smaller class Cs so she would feel comfortable driving it on occassion. It would be used mostly to camp during fishing tournaments, hence the requirement to easily tow a boat. My son is only 5 so the three of us would fit comfortably in the smaller units. OK. Didn't know if issue was towing/launching boat with longer MH. Seems you have kind of opposite dilemma we had...DW wanted bigger MH. Good luck in your search!

RE: Why we can’t snowbird?

I thought there were ways to "winterize" a home just like an RV or boat.

RE: questions from a Class C beginner

On question number 2, any particular reasoning for limiting the size? I, too, was wanting to stay in the shorter range (24-27) but could not find the floor plan DW would go for after being used to a 30' 5'er with super slide. We finally settled on the 32' Gulf Stream in signature. Although I've only done it once, I towed and launched our 20' bowrider with no problem. I was really surprised how well it went. It could turn out to be beginner's luck and next time will be a disaster :(

RE: hate the dinette (26f)

Our 5'er had table/chairs instead of booth dinette and we really liked it. We could move chairs into main floor area for sitting, watching TV, etc. With MH, I'm liking the extra storage but miss using chairs instead of benches. But, not bad enough to consider taking it out.

RE: hate the dinette (26f)

We also like our dinette. The storage underneath is valuable plus after dinner we like to make it into a bed and watch movies while cuddling. The surround sound makes the whole coach rock when a good action movie is playing. The "surround sound makes the whole coach rock" :B :B :B Yeah, right! ;) ;) ;)

RE: 97 Gulfstream

Gulf Stream is two words and the model is probably an M6311, not W6311. You might have better luck finding similar units using those couple of thoughts. On NADA Guides, there is a 1997 M6311-CC. Without adding any options (just the mileage), it comes in at 19K ~ $23. That low of hours (<25) on a 1997 generator might be more bad than good. If they just "exercised" as needed it should have more than that.

RE: Gulf Stream Class C Conquest

Back in August we traded a truck/5'er for a 2006 Gulf Stream Yellowstone 6316. So far we really like it. I've done some minor stuff to it but nothing major. Biggest issue was the solenoid between house and chassis battery was bad so the engine alternator wouldn't charge house battery while traveling. Bought a new one at NAPA and its working fine now. DW does miss the amount of kitchen storage compared to previous 5'er but we have better storage in other areas. We've "camped" in it twice and taken it to 3 college football games (camped/tailgated in parking lot all weekend).

RE: Over hang braceing

I've seen supports like you describe in pictures on the truck camper forum here at rv.net. Perhaps you can find a picture there and contact the owner/member?

RE: Can I tow a 2006 Nissian Maxima on a tow dolly?

Check the Remco Application Charts. It show the Maxima dolly only for auto and 4 down for manual. The Town Car is 4 down with drive shaft coupling.

RE: Winterizing "tools"

Photos from a year ago (two years ago? ;) ) I'm sure I stole the idea from someone though. http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2004-11/892154/03932280-2008_10_04_0401_S.jpg width=320 -- Chuck Well darn! I didn't even think about screwing female quick connect right to the el cheapo blow out plug. I went out and bought PVC adapters and other fittings. The blow out plug is still in shop after using it only once and deciding I didn't like holding air chuck up to it. Do the fitting go right onto the blow out plug?

RE: Winterizing "tools"

I made a similar connection for air line quick connect. Steveo35, yes, with that blowout plug you have to hold an air chuck to it like filling a tire. Some folks here have bought the air chucks that clamp to a valve stem to lock it into place.

RE: Best, quality built class “C” or small class “A” and why?

When we started looking at moving to a MH, I did ran some rough numbers on Sprinter vs classic C cost. I forget exactly what I came up with but it was many miles (100,000 plus) for mpg improvement to worthwhile. As primarily weekend campers with our 5'er going out about once per month I figured it would take MANY MANY years to reach enough miles to make it worth the extra cost.

RE: No charge to house battieries from chassis??? Help!

Similar problem with our class C. I had to replace the solenoid (isolator). I used a Napa ST-85 solenoid as replacement and its working great. From what I learned here at rv.net, be sure to get a continous duty solenoid and not an intermittent duty one. A golf cart solenoid vs an auto starting solenoid is another way to look at it. Here's pic of the ST-85 I bought. http://www.alliedelec.com/Images/Products/Small/576-1020.jpg

RE: YEAAAA!! We finally have a motorhome! ** LINK to pics added

Congrats Nascarcruzin! That's same dealer we bought our class C from. Our experience went good with him, hope your's went well too. Sorry to see reason you had to replace the MH but hope you get lots of good service from this one.

RE: Campgrounds along I-75

I used MS Office Picture Manager that comes with MS Office. I cropped/resized 2 individual pictures to be height rv.net allows and about 1/2 width. Then, I used MS Paint to put the two together. I've also used a MS "power toy" called Image Resizer or similar in past.

RE: Campgrounds along I-75

I would also suggest High Falls but, as mentioned, you need to arrive before 10pm. Indian Springs is also very nice but you drive right by High Falls to get to it. For an overnighter, High Falls makes more sense. We're headed there for weekend tomorrow :B :B :B I've never driven through the rest area just north of I475 but see lots of RVs in there when I pass by. There's also Flying J with RV area at exit 201.

RE: To Plug or Not to Plug

We kept our 5'er at home plugged in and now keep MH at home plugged in. We keep fridge loaded with basic items. After a trip, we only remove things like meats, fresh vegetables, milk, etc. We try to use our RV at least once each month. So far, in the 4 or 5 years, we've managed to do that except a handful of months.

RE: Crew cab hooking up

We had a Chevy 2500HD crew cab and I never had an issue hooking up the 5'er. I would stop just short of hitch contacting pin and get out to make sure all was lined up side-to-side and the 5'er was right height.

RE: Lost my Extend-A-Stay hose, can't find a new one

The Extend-a-stay uses 2 different hoses (if you have the deluxe model), but the one with the POL has a 1/4" inverted flair fitting on the other end, not the disposable type fitting. That fitting is for drawing out high pressure LP, and uses the extension type hose. That's what I was thinking...the "extend-a-stay" is a 4 way fitting. The hose for getting propane INTO the MH is 1/4 flair for fitting and POL for tank. The hose for getting propane OUT of MH to a portable appliance (grill, camp stove, etc) is the male threads of a disposable bottle type fitting. The "extend-a-flow" is the 3 way fitting with the disposable bottle type fitting. From looking through catalogs, I thought the "deluxe" version was same fitting but included the hoses.

RE: “Maiden Voyage” Tips Please! :D

Don't expect everything to go perfect and be easy/simple. Some of the best memories from trips are the things that don't go exactly as planned. 110% agree with notepad! We also keep one and have used it almost every trip. Take your time doing the things you aren't practiced at...leveling, hooking up utilities, dumping tanks, etc. Don't feel you have to rush and look like a pro. Like when backing into campsite, it is OK to pull forward to get straight or get out to look behind MH multiple times. Enjoy!
